BRONZING LOTIONS THERE ARE 3 DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRONZING LOTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM; NATURAL BRONZERS Natural bronzers contain plant and herbal extracts instead of chemicals. Many ingredients found in this type of bronzer are superior moisturisers and contain ingredients such as walnut shell, fig or henna. The moisturisation benefits result in a streak free, flawless instant boost of colour.

INSTANT BRONZERS Instant Bronzers as the name suggests provide instant colour that easily washes off. Some instant bronzers have features such as bronzing beads, these beads burst with colour when applied to the skin. This type of lotion, again, aids the tanning process in exactly the same way as an accelerator, with the added bonus of an instant tint to the skin that easily washes off. Typically, a cosmetic bronzer will be a coloured solution that indicates the application will instantly provide a tanned shade topically to the skin.

DHA (DIHYDROXYACETONE) BRONZERS DHA Bronzers is derived from sugar cane – it is transparent and is known in the tanning industry as a clear bronzer. This type of bronzer is more commonly known as ‘Fake Tan’. The results are not instant and can take up to 4 hours to develop. When DHA is applied to the skin it creates a chemical reaction between amino acids and proteins in the skin and produces a brown colour. This colour does not wash off but will gradually fade as new cells are formed.

BRONZING COCKTAIL This can include more than one type of bronzer. For example, instant/cosmetic bronzers could also include a DHA Bronzer. In that instance the results would provide instant colour that would wash off and a DHA ‘fake tan’ would provide gradual results that takes time to develop. The colour that is achieved from the DHA Bronzer would fade over 4-7 days.
