Altos de Chavón is a replica of a 16th-century village. Dominican architect Jose Antonio Caro teamed up with Roberto Coppa, an Italian designer and cinematographer, and the result is this charming time-warp to historic Europe. The village is home to a 5,000seat amphitheater that’s hosted Frank Sinatra, Andrea Bocelli, Julio Iglesias and Gloria Estefan; an museum dedicated to the history of the Dominican Republic and the quaint, stone edifice of St. Stanislaus Church.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, head to La Flor Dominicana for a tour of a traditional cigar factory.
The Spa at Casa de Campo Resort and Villas offers steam and sauna rooms, Ayurvedic treatments, reflexology, facials and even private, customized consultations with an on-site naturopathic doctor. Or try a morning yoga session from the beautiful Minitas Beach. All ages and levels of ability are welcome. There’s also a beach cabana for al fresco massages and a physical therapy center.
