Sharing Black stories through my lens is one of my highest callings. When the people took to the streets in May of 2020 to demand justice for yet another Black life that was taken unjustly, I knew that my camera was one of my weapons in the war towards Black liberation. While I took to the streets to protest and document the people, there were many chants demanding the reform of policing in the United States and of course, several chants reminding the world that Black lives matter.

In the last twelve months, there has been a longing to “return to normal” spoken often and frequently. However, the normal we knew is not something that should return - from struggle and strife to the senseless loss of Black life. Sometimes change is the result of a lot of small things - with that in mind you may envision cooking a new dish (or learning to cook) or a future for your family that differs from what exists. We do not need to return to the old reality. Instead we should be thinking about what the next normal can be and how we will make it a reality. What do you imagine, for yourself, your future and the world? A sea of color, a black and white sketch, a vision of nature or a new and exciting dish? A new business or return to your business? When you close your eyes do you see a sustainable garment or innovation? What if your dreams became a reality?
