EDITORIAL Heating up As we observe our school, we see the rooms and studying fields more and more filled up with people. The recent tasks and upcoming exams are catching up on the students. For some people, it is hard to find relaxing times but now, just empty your mind and read your magazine. I believe, relaxing before the tough times are more usefull than worrying about it.
We all know our own reasons to study in Xamk. Anna is giving us her own perspective on the reasons to chose xamk. Well, now that it came up, my reasons are very personal. But as a member of Xamk today, I could say that there are a lot more reasons that our own reasons. This school is something every person should experience.

MINIMALISM The benefits of minimalism 3 years ago I moved out for the first time from my family house, ready to leave my home country and live a new adventure. While packing my stuff, I realised that I was owning a huge amount of things. I was owning way more than what I need in my everyday life. A bunch of objects, clothes and items, that I’ve never even used before or that are double or triple in my shelves. That was the moment when I started googling about minimalism. When we talk about adopting minimalism as a lifestyle, we shouldn’t think about giving up every modern conveniences and live in a cabin in the woods, without plumbing, internet connection or electricity. Being a minimalist is much more simple than this. Minimalism means different things for different people. But in general, being a minimalist means having a simple living. It means that you are more mindful of new purchases: instead of getting everything you want, you just buy what you need. This means that you buy only things that add value to your life. Every person can decide how much of a minimalist lifestyle you want to add to your routine: some people starts just buy getting rid of extra stuff they own and after some time, they start adopting this new lifestyle for the rest of their life. For others
can be just a phase. Minimalism can be a short experience or a new way of living. There are no rules to follow, everybody can have a different approach to it. And if you decide to start changing your habits, remember that not all the people "Fragments"series of that live in the same house with you are forced paintings to follow your same style of living. You can create your own minimal space while respecting your flatmates lifestyle. But why should I give it a try? Because it’s easy. Thanks to new technologies is now easy to not have a lot of extra things around the house. Computers and smartphones replace the need for papers, photos, cd’s, dvd’s, books, calendars, calculators, newspapers, etc. Everything is easily accessible from your device. So many things have been replaced and much more will be in the future! This means less objects that will end up in the environment. The environmental concern is another reason why you should consider minimalism. If you buy less, you will have less trash. And if less things are bought, less natural resources are used to produce these items that are not really needed. Minimalism will help you to focus on what is important to you. When your house is less messy,

you have less distractions. Minimalism is giving you the time and the space to learn new things and share them with the others. You will have more time for yourself and you will soon realize what is important to you and what is not. Buying less means spending less. Student life forces us a bit, to live on a budget and to think about how should we spend it. Less shopping means more money saved to spend on what really fulfil you, like travelling, food or memory-creating experiences. Minimalism is time-saving. Living with less stuff makes your cleaning process faster and easier. And since you don’t have to spend hours anymore dusting and vacuuming the house, you have more free time to do things that you enjoy. Your life will be less stressful. A minimalist room would give you more space to breathe. You will not have to spend time anymore on keeping up with trends, repair and make storage for things that you don’t need. But you will have more time to be productive and more energy to enjoy things that really matter. The last reason but not the least, is finding happiness. Many people try to find happiness in their possessions. They think that having the latest smartphone or buying branded clothes will make them satisfied. But the reality is that happiness is hidden in way different places: spending time doing what you enjoy the most, relationships, friendships, a stress-free routine, social causes, etc. Minimalism gives you time, space and freedom to cultivate your true self and cultivate sincere relationships with the people you have around. EPIDEMIC Stay healthy! Wash your hands! Recently, we all received an e-mail from the school about the students and staff about the epidemic areas. The main point in it is that the people who has come from epidemic areas should study remotely, for at least two weeks. This matter is very serious and should not be taken slightly. The planned trips of our teachers have been suspended until 31 March and we are informed that this situation will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis. In the e-mail that we received, the word choices are really eye-catching in my opinion. It has said that all the work-related travels have been suspended. Obviously, the reason for that is the instutition is eligible to do so. However, I think we should not only suspend work-related travels but also personal trips. Of course,this can not be forced, as educated people we should consider this ourselves. Also, it is mandatory for people who come from epidemic areas to study remotely according to e-mail. Then, it informs us that this implementation is applicable to all forms of trips. In addition to that it is advises everyone not to travel. It is essential that people understand the importance of this matter and try to stay in as long as possible. I would like to briefly explain the virus one more time to everyone through The Insider. Virus is transmitted from person to person through coughing, sneezing and physical contact through the surfaces with which infected people interact. Try not to touch objects around you unless it is necessary. According to WHO (World Health Organization) incubation period is two weeks which means that when someone is infected, they will feel no effect for two weeks. But some researches indicates that in some cases the incubation period was 24 days. The symptoms start with high fever. Fever is followed by dry coughing. After one week, 6

shortness of breath starts effecting the patient. If you have any of these symptoms, see a doctor right away. What to do? Wash your hands regularly in an exacting manner. The food we consume and how we consume it is important. I know it sounds not tasty but make sure your meat is well cooked these days. The same goes for any animal source food like eggs or chicken. Also, try to stay away from other people and do not hug and kiss people occasionally. Finnish people will probably have no problem with that any way. But seriously, especially stay away from people who you know has been abroad and who seems like coughing or feverish. I hope this issue is resolved all around the world soon enough and I hope no one gets hurt due to it.

XAMK Why XAMK? Why did you choose XAMK for studying? Ambassadors of XAMK university must answer this question quite often during university presentations and meeting with potential foreign students. Time of choosing future university is probably the most stressful and adventurous in every school graduator’s life. That is why it is very important to know in advance as much as it possible about degree programme, campus amenities and specifications of foreign country if the matriculant is planning to study abroad. INTERNSHIPS 4 Lessons From My 1st Internship Last summer 2019, I got acceptance to the Digital Content Marketing Intern position at MicroAd Vietnam. The company is a multinational digital advertising agency that operates in Asia-Pacific areas such as Japan (Headquarters), China, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, etc. People say that internship is surely one of the most stressful yet necessary contributes to any young’s career. Thus, I was so nervously and then a bunch of questions appeared in my head: “How will my colleagues be? Are they friendly and supportive? Can I be a good employee?”. Now looking back, I can truthfully say that being an intern at MicroAd was the best decision I’ve made so far in my career path. And these following tips below are for you, who are going to do the 1st internship in your life:
1. Being confident and improve networking Show yourself. It’s is the biggest and also the first lesson that I hope you’d learn from internships. Proactively getting to know people, learning about work agenda, the company structure, proposing some ideas, etc. To effectively communicate, I understand that I must be a good listener before being a good communicator. Engaging and sharing could be essential. For example, you can go for lunch to talk more and share things with your colleagues, spend time with someone who has the same interests after work, etc. Apart from official employees, it’s also a great idea to connect with your co-interns. Instead of feeling out of place among experienced workers, interacting with my co-intern is much easier. Because we are in the same position, nearly the same age, it’s a great way to have more friends even in real life. 2. Active asking and listening I think we mostly agree that the purpose of an intern is to be trained. Therefore, questions are welcome and mistakes are not problems. Here is my favorite saying all the time: “When being at the age of twenties, the young might find it easy to say “I don’t know”. There would immediately be a lot of people who are willing to teach them at that time. However, turning to thirties, forties means they could not continue to say “I don’t know” anymore.” On my first training, my Content director did repeat to me “Because you are new, there would be a lot to learn. Remember if you find anything unclear, ask me or others immediately. Don’t be afraid. You are supposed to be here to learn experience. We all started exactly as you are right now. Nobody expected you to know everything on earth.”

FOUR TIPS 4. Understanding that digital marketing always seeks for creativity, acumen, and patience. One of the biggest challenges that marketers have today is coming up with something new and creative. Innovation and creation have never been redundant ever. Sometimes, the content might be likely done and tried 100 times already. They all appeared somehow similarly on the internet. Thus, also as a writer, I used to concern about whether I need to be out of my comfort zone, refresh my style and trying something unexpected that can attract and make the reader’s curiosity. There is no definition of “standard” anymore. When even if I get the content request as a subject which I am unfamiliar with, I am ready to deal with it in different ways. Days after days, when a lot of tasks done, I received feedback from my team leader and thanks to her, I acknowledge the points that I need to improve to be a better writer. I realized that asking more questions and having connections with peers really affected my work. RECIPE Light Salad with Strawberries Ingredients: • 100 g Strawberries • 125 g cherry tomatoes • A few basil leaves • 40 Parmesan shavings • 1 tablespoon of olive oil • ½ tablespoon of balsamic vinegar Preparation: 1. REVIEW The Call of the Wild
How does a pet dog survive in cold Alaska? The Call of the Wild takes place during the late 19th century and revolves around the story of Buck, a large mix of St. Bernard and Scotch Collie dog, who enjoys a very fun and easy life with his master in Santa Clara, California. The story actually takes off when onenight Buck is abducted and sent to Alaska to be sold to people going for the ‘gold rush’. Now let me clear, since I haven’t read the Jack London’s 1903 novel of the same name, therefore, my analysis of the story was purely based on whatever they depicted in the movie. The direction by Chris Sanders is well enough to keep the story with the setting tight enough throughout. One of

the highlights of the movie is to see Harrison Ford back again and how he has once again succeeded to charm the audience with this performance. I’d say that the casting team made a good decision to choose him for the role of John Thorton, an old man who is like a family to Buck away from home in the wild. Apart from that Omar Sy and Dan Stevens have also done a good job with their roles. The major part in this movie is of the GFX team, who is responsible for creating almost a dozen dogs, including the main character of the movie – Buck. Overall their work is excellent considering things like from the expressions of the dogs to the different types of barks used to depict their emotions, almost makes the audience feel like that these dogs are no different to human actors. Although at the same time there were a few personal and emotional one-on-one scenes, where the dog looked a bit more cartoonish than real.
