HOW TO START A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE

So tell me, have “getting healthier” been on your new year’s resolutions list forever? Have you failed multiple times trying to maintain that healthy lifestyle? Have you ever wished you would actually begin to be healthy?

If your answer is a big YES, then here are some very helpful tips to get you started and prolong your fitness journey!

First thing first, set your goal Most of the time, people failed because they did not set a specific yet do-able goal. Taking little steps gradually towards your goal or setting weekly goals that contribute to the overall goal is a very good start.

Remember to be clear, be practical, and be committed to the plan. Take it easy, don’t be too harsh on yourself or else it will be very difficult to prolong the plan. Gradually you will feel like this IS your way of life, your nature, your habit, and your lifestyle.

Make your time Legend says you can’t have good grades, a social life, and be healthy at the same time. Well, if you are planning to graduate with a 5.0 GPA then maybe it is true. But for a normal college student, it is not that hard to

spend around 4-5 hours every week to work out. Besides, going to the gym or a dancing class, yoga class with your friends is a great bonding and socializing time.

Don’t let yourself allow any excuses!

You are what you eat Eating healthy is the key to a healthier lifestyle. I know, life isn’t fair, all the good food in the world is so unhealthy.

But you don’t have to cut all the goodies out immediately (and it would be fairly impossible), just allow yourself to gradually adapt to a better diet.

Start by substituting unhealthy food with more nutritious options. For example, replacing sugar with honey or stevia, cooking oil with coconut oil, junk food with fruits or dark chocolate, … Try to avoid premade/canned/boxed food, and buy whole food, raw food to cook yourself instead. That way you know exactly what ingredients you are consuming.

And low-carb or calorie counting is not necessary at all, it will only stress you out more and won’t help you maintain for a long time. Find a diet that is suitable for YOU, that you are comfortable with and you find it easy to prolong.

Remember to reward yourself with an

ice cream or burger sometimes too!

You see sweat, I see sparkle Sweating is sexy. Start your exercising habit to strengthen your immune system, lower risk of diseases, get a more attractive physique, … and overall a better health. Choose whatever activity that you like, swimming, running, biking, weightlifting, or anything, but stick around it for at least 2-3 days per week.

Keep yourself motivated by keeping track of your changes, your positive feelings with a diary or log book.

A healthier lifestyle will surely improve your health noticeably, give you more confidence and energy, and make you become a “better you”. Just start on the right track, and never give up!

HIGHLAND VIETNAMESE VIBE

Well, I am glad to share with you about my trip to the North of Viet Nam last year before I came to Finland. The destination was Sa Pa - a northern part with spectacular landscapes and minor tribes. At that time, when we came there, it was a prime time for traveling. Therefore, we could not rebook the accommodation. Fortunately we found a room for 3 people in a cheap but nice hotel at 6 in the morning. We were so lucky! After having a snap, we rent 2 motorbikes, which is highly recommended. We headed up to a local restaurant to order a must-try local dish – ‘thang co’ – made of meat and inside parts of horse. It was tasty to me but not to my friends because of its strong and not-so-good smell. We spent 1 and a half day to drive around, even 10 kilometers away from our hotel and went into minor tribes’ towns. Thanks to it, we could explore the greatness of mother nature and gained insights of highland tribes’ customs. We were amazed by their traditions in making and dying clothes by hands, hunting, cooking or the way they dress. Not all of them can speak the same language as we speak but we understood each other by using hand gestures and body language. There are a lot of small tents in which you can sit in front of the fire during the coldness and enjoy local specialities such as com lam and fresh wood-raised porks with a unique sauce that you cannot anywhere else. In the last day, because of modernization, we were able to go up to Fansipan mountain, which is the highest in Indochina, by sky tram. We fought against a heavy storm to climb to the top. Finally, we did it.

PROFILE

Why do u want to go to France for exchange?

I have been to France twice and there is something about the country that attracts me a lot. To be honest, I am a little bit obsessed with French food, especially brioche and crepe. Hence, Lyon is one of the best cities in France in my opinion.

Compared finland and France, from a foreigner’s perspective, where you would like to stay in the rest of your like, if possible.

France is a good place to visit but if it is possible, I still want to stay in Finland for the rest of my life.

To me, Finland is my second home and there is nothing to complain about when it comes to the life standard.

Is there anything you wish to do before graduation?

I have a bucket list and I am trying to complete all of them. I think I want to visit Lapland and see Northern Lights before my graduation.

Which country you would love to visit the most but haven’t yet? And why you want to go there?

I always want to visit Morocco and I am planning to do that next year. Honestly, I want to try riding a camel.

FAHRENHEIT 451

“Fahrenheit 451 – the temperature at which book paper catches fire, and burns…”

This is an unusual book which discusses issues being set years in the future, by the author Ray Bradbury. As I read the book in the comfort of my dorm room, with music playing softly on my laptop and Messenger notifications kept popping up on my smartphone, I realized the future which is being presented in the novel itself is not too far back from the possible reality ahead. The novel depicts a society where books are strictly banned, in which firemen, instead of putting out fire, are the ones who are in charge of burning the books and the house where they are stored. It tells the story of Montag – a fireman with years of experience in destroying the outlawed books, found himself in a questionable position after one unexpected encounter with a whimsical young girl. He began to skepticize his and everyone’s lifestyles in a paperless world, where machines and so-called advanced technology have full control over people’s actions and morals. Montag went through a process of doubting himself, risking it all in order to find the truth and witnessing this sullen society under the horrid influence of the government.

The novel started out pretty hazily and uneventfully, most of it was meant to depict the unfamiliar future through the imaginative mind of the author, since Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953, a time where technology still hasn’t had such massive effect on people’s lives. However, as the story goes, the novel soon becomes an action-packed, twisted read. What I find most confusing is how Fahrenheit 451 left behind a handful of questions, but overall, this is a must-read for everyone who enjoys a mind-opening book with a humble writing style. This is considered one iconic work of Ray Bradbury, even years after it was first published.

PASTICO WITH CHEESE

The dish I want to share with you this issue is a very popular Albanian dish that can be cooked by everyone. It can be eaten as a single plate because it has a lot of ingredients and calories. There are different ways to cook pastico, it can be cooked with ground beef or vegetables, but today I want to share with you guys my favorite one, which is cooked with cheese.

The first thing you need to do is preheat the oven to 175 degrees c.

After that you need to bring a large pot of lightly salted water to boil.

You have to leave the water boil for 8-10 minutes. After the water is boiled enough you need to add the pasta and let it boil for about 5 minutes. Meanwhile you need to crack the eggs and stir them with the cheese until they become one. After that you need to add the cold milk. After the pasta is boiled enough you add it in the same bowl as the other ingredients. Mix everything together and then put it in a baking pan(which has butter in it). After you cover the whole baking pan with the mixed ingredients, put butter and shredded cheese on top of it. The next step is to put it on the oven and leave it there for about 30 minutes. After the 30 minutes are up you have to leave it for another 10 minutes in the turned off oven. The final step is getting the dish out of the oven and cutting it into pieces. The delicious dish is ready to be served.

The last wish was originally published in polish in 1993 and written by Andrzej Sapkowski but later it was translated into English in 2007. This novel is the first Serie out of the Witcher saga and they are collection of short stories. As you might be familiar with the name of the novel, The Witcher saga was also published into PlayStation games, video games as well as tv-series. The genre of the novel is mystery, fantasy and fiction.

The plot is about a guy called Geralt of Rivia, a famous Witcher and had the title of the white wolf due to his powerful and magical abilities. He was trained from young age to hunt and to take contracts to defeat monsters due to their abilities to fight with monsters. There are also other characters in the novel that he in counters with such Stretogor, the wizards that his not fond of and because of the world they currently live in, is full of monster and sorcery but not all are vicious and rather some are victims.

If you have or haven’t played the Witcher game or watched the tv series than you might l want to read the short stories of the books, it will give you basic understanding of how the story has evolved.

MOVIE REVIEW

Why Avengers: Infinity War is the best movie of the year Disclaimer: We will have our last issue next week, and then Insider will go to the summer holidays.

When I first heard this, my thought was “how am I going to write a review of Infinity War which will hit the theaters after the next issue?”. So, the decision has been made and this is the special movie Preview of the movie that will simply be the best.

With that being said, let’s jump to business. Ten years ago, not-so-popular Hollywood actor Robert Downey-Jr was cast as Tony Stark aka Iron Man and the world saw the first movie of the series which would later be called Marvel Cinematic Universe or the MCU. Who could even think that this movie franchise would become so successful and amazing? Disney, the owner company of the MCU, has produced 18 movies over this decade and they are not going to stop. Different actors were invited to play superheroes, villains and others, and when there were not so many popular ones at the beginning (only Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Hopkins were probably the superstars), the MCU was able to acquire Benedict Cumberbatch, Kurt Russell, Vin Diesel and many more! Not to mention Chris Evans, RDJ, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, who grew with the movies and now are the Hollywood’s most wanted actors. MCU had its ups and downs (hello, The Incredible Hulk and Thor 2) but it’s grown to be one of the best movie franchises ever.

“The end is near!”, Thanos declares in the first teaser trailer and he is so right. The culmination of the decade is upon us, the Infinity war. This is going to be an epic, mind blowing, beautiful film and here is why: 1. 76 characters are going to make an appearance. Seventy-six of them! Obviously, it would be 10

impossible to make them fight all together, so the action will take place on different planets. The fight for Wakanda on the Earth and the fight for something on another planet (probably Titan, the homeland of Thanos), are already confirmed in the trailers.

2. The villain is going to be a badass. Let’s face it, we haven’t had a perfect villain since Loki in the first Avengers. Kilmonger in Black Panther and The Vulture in Spiderman: Homecoming were good but Thanos… Man, this guy is top-notch. He is one of the strongest archenemies in the comic books and even though we already had this Strong In The Comics Disappointment In The Movie situation (hello, Mandarin), we can be sure that this time, the Big Bad will be nearly perfect. He will be strong enough to handle The Earth’s Mightiest heroes, he will have a good motivation and his backstory will be explained. One Thanos is anticipated as much as the other 75 heroes.

3. Very important plot points. First, many of our questions will finally be answered. Infinity War and Avengers 4 (the latter is scheduled for May, 2019 and its name is not revealed yet, although some rumors state that it will be Avengers: Disassembled) are there to help us understand the things that we couldn’t so far and all the threads that we had throughout the entire ten years should be tied together.

Second, these two movies will give the MCU the shape that will stay with it probably for another 10 years. And last but not least, not all the characters will make it. It’s been officially stated that one or two major characters will die during Infinity War. RDJ and Chris Evans, who play Iron Man and Captain America respectively, have Avengers 4 as the last movie in their contracts. Someone will go and the best we can do is to eliminate some possibilities by being sure that no new additions to the MCU will die. Fans of Dr Strange, Spiderman, Black Panther, Ant-Man, you can expect your favorites to survive.

4. Just about everything is going to be amazing in this movie. The Russo brothers who direct this masterpiece, music, actors and, of course, the picture. The whole movie was filmed using the IMAX cameras so it has to be seen in IMAX (poor Finland doesn’t have any though) because the studio obviously goes all-out on this one.

The views and the precision are going to be over the roof with a really huge budget - $500 million.

5. Stan Lee. We can hope that he will have something truly special here, keeping in mind that he was one of the authors who created the comic base for the movie and for the entire franchise. It’s about time he got an actual role!

To conclude, go and see the movie! Book the tickets way before because all the theaters are going to run out of them! Wait for the movie of the century! This is going to be a blast!! I would give it 10 stars out of 5 but we can only do 5 so here we go. The expectation rating is 5.  Nikita Munenko
