EDITORIAL

Hello again beautiful people from your favorite Albanian girl. Well the break is over and the wonderful editorial staff of Insider is back again with exciting and interesting new articles. I think the break was a very good thing for all of us, giving us time to chill with our families, friends and loved ones. I don’t know for you guys but we, the Insider staff, are more than ever motivated to bring you updates on the latest events going on around us, new movies released that need to be seen by everyone, delicious recipes and some of the best books ever written.

On this issue of Insider we will go through some pretty interesting articles from which you can learn a lot, for example how to enhance your presentation skills. This kind of article is the kind that could be handy to anyone who has a hard time presenting because of anxiety problems or any other reason, but it could also help people who are good at it, to improve their skills, after all no one is perfect right?

Isn’t it thrilling how the second semester is halfway over, it means summer time, it means fun but also some extra time for our basic/ professional training or internships. Alias will guide you through some very helpful tips on how to succeed when writing your cover letter, trust me, you will need this.

Remember how before we left for the break there was this Valentine Night Fetish party? Yeah we remember it as well, don’t think we have forgotten about it. For everyone who missed this night, Jane will fill you in with the details of that night and you’re gonna absolutely love it.

Valentines Night Fetish wasn’t the only event happening before the break, we can’t really forget about the Chinese Year can we, it was an exciting event even for me, and I had my fair share of New Year celebration a couple of months ago. Turn the pages around and read Ling Li’s article on this beautiful event that will make you feel joy.

On the other hand, Dori will take us to her trip in Turku, which I bet was amazing but you will have to read the article for more details.

Well you all know what’s coming next, the movie review about the latest movie out there, Black Panther, I know many of you have been waiting for a long time for this movie, I am one of the many people who have been waiting for such a long time for this movie. Next, I myself will bring you one of the greatest books I have ever read and I am sure that you are going to love it as well. Hafsa on the other hand will show you how to cook an amazing dish that will suit the taste of each of you.

TURKU – A JOURNEY TO MEDIEVAL

Sincerely sincere greetings to all! It’s been two weeks since last time we published an issue, quite a long time, isn’t it? How did you spend your holiday, did you travel or just simply chill yourself with an enjoyable book accompanied by a hot fine chocolate drink? Me and my friends decided to choose Turku as our destination for the holiday, also as the next check in our “must visit in Finland” list. It was a very short but memorable and interesting trip.

Turku is one of the Finland’s oldest cities and famous for being a very distinctive medieval European town with the cathedral, the castle, the market square, the riverfront and anything else that reminds you of this era. Such a cultural heart of the country but I will stop mouthing too much here for I’m quite sure that all those commercial marketing advertisements online and even Wikipedia can do the appraisal work much better than me. Here I’m gonna tell just enough to raise some interest and curiosity in you, it is no more fun to know all beforehand right? Kay, back to the main point, me and my friends after spending like the whole bus time thinking about where to visit, the castle and the cathedral were our final decision.

Turku castle (Turun linna) is one of the city’s main attraction. Easy to reach with a bus stop right at the entrance, this is absolutely a place you should not skip once being in Turku. At a very first sight the castle was much smaller than we expected, not a fancy one from Disneyland movies. But as we have learnt since very young, never judge a book by its cover. Indeed, we were not let down. Despite having seen many historic turning points, dramatic events and been used with different purposes since 13th century, today the castle remains in very good condition. Inside the castle shows an exhibition of the place’s history from the very beginning up to the present day with lots of clay features and recreations.

There is also one costume room where you and your group of friends can let your creativity on fire.

Here is a picture of us trying to act “The haunted throne” concept. The instruction in Turku castle is so clear that you once start the tour will not only not miss anything at all, but also nearly impossible to 4

get lost inside despite of the castle’s vast size. In total the place took us around two and a half hours.

Another amusing place to visit in Turku is Turku cathedral – the city symbol. Together with the castle, these two places are among the oldest buildings in Finland still in use today.

Still a lengthy list of places to go but too limited time to do all, we left Turku reluctantly and made a promise to visit the place again someday. Definitely Turku will be recommended by me if you ask me places well worth visiting in Finland. Have you found your next trip destination? Maybe some consideration should be spent on Turku now!

BOOK REVIEW The Fall is a philosophical novel written by Albert Camus. This amazing book is one of his latest complete work of fiction, and it was published in 1956. The novel is set to be in Amsterdam and it consists of the main character, Jean Baptiste Clamence, reflecting upon his life to a person he doesn’t even know, a stranger. His confession begins with him telling all of us how he used to be a successful and wealthy defense lawyer from Paris. Later on the novel we have the chance to explore themes of innocence, non-existence and imprisonment. This beautiful novel was said to be one of Camus best jobs but the least understood one. I really recommend this book to everyone, it is one of the best novels I’ve ever read.

KASSU LAN PARTY V or how the gamer students spend their weekends

What is the best way for a nerd to finish the first half of a semester than playing games with other sixtysomething geeks? Kassu Lan party, organized by Gaming Barracks, had its fifth event throughout the 23.02-25.02 weekend and there was a lot of stuff going on.

As usually, students came to the party well prepared: they brought computers and laptops, mice, keyboards and everything else for playing comfortably. Many spent the whole time at Meduusa studio so they brought mattresses, pillows.

Participants actually lived there.

Besides playing your computer, you could also enjoy a lot of console games, board games and the newest addition to the party, Steam VR. Virtual reality was not the only thing that was new, as you could enjoy popcorn from a machine, the one that you see in cinema theatres. Popcorn placement was chosen carefully because after you have some, you can sit on the sofas nearby and enjoy professional esports on the big screen.

Overwatch League and League of Legends were broadcasted during the party.

There are tournaments with amazing prizes on each Kassu and this one was no exception. The organizers have learned that more isn’t better and decided to stick to the two games that have proven to be the highlights for the previous four semesters. Overwatch tournament had five teams competing in it and Hearthstone attracted twelve players.

The main event, Overwatch tournament, had one group and was played in a round-robin structure, with the first team advancing straight to the Grand Final and teams 2 and 3 playing in a semifinal. The favorites, Hai Nuun, came out as the champions once again, without losing a single match.

Kassu lan party has become a regular thing and this is the best event for all the students who enjoy games. If you are one of them and still have not attended this nerdfest, you better give it a try in the next semester!

THE CHINESE NEW YEAR

On 15th of Feb, the Chinese are celebrating the Chinese New Yearthe Spring Festival. And 2018 is the Year of dog.

Spring Festival is the MOST important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. Billions of people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems about half a month from the Spring Festival, we call it “ Spring Festival Rush”.

The Spring Festival falls on the 1st day of the 1st lunar month, often one month later than the Gregorian calendar. It originated in the Shang Dynasty (c. 1600 BC-c. 1100 BC) from the people's sacrifice to gods and ancestors at the end of an old year and the beginning of a new one.

Strictly speaking, the Spring Festival starts every year in the early days of the 12th lunar month and will last till the mid-1st lunar

month of the next year. Of them, the most important days are Spring Festival Eve and the first three days. The Chinese government now stipulates people have seven days off for the Chinese Lunar New Year. According to custom, each family will stay up to see the New Year in.

People attach great importance to Spring Festival Eve. At that time, all family members eat dinner together.

The meal is more luxurious than usual. Dishes such as chicken, fish and bean curd cannot be excluded, for in Chinese, their pronunciations, respectively "ji", "yu" and "doufu," mean auspiciousness, abundance and richness. After the dinner, the whole family will sit together, chatting and watching TV. In recent years, the Spring Festival party broadcast on China Central Television Station (CCTV) is essential entertainment for the Chinese both at home and abroad.

Waking up on New Year, everybody dresses up. First, they extend greetings to their parents. Then

each child will get money as a New Year gift, wrapped up in red paper. People in northern China will eat jiaozi, or dumplings, for breakfast, they think "jiaozi" in sound means "bidding farewell to the old and ushering in the new".

Also, the shape of the dumpling is like gold ingot from ancient China.

So, people eat them and wish for money and treasure.

Anyway, the essence Chinese New Year can’t be concluded in sheets of paper, if you’re interested in this great country’s culture, you can also check “Chinses New Year” on Wikipedia, there are more details.

VALENTINE

Valentine’s Day – a joyous, heartfelt occasion for love birds where their love gets a chance to publicly be shown, as candidly as possible. But what about us single people? Did we stay home eating a giant tub of Ben & Jerry’s chocolate brownie fudge ice-cream and watching TV shows? Well some of us did. That was my original plan at first, then I thought to myself, I am in college, why not do stuff that a normal college student would do?

Conveniently, Kupla organized a very interesting event for us all at XAMK Kouvola called “Valentine’s Night Fetish”. The event was hosted at Bar Q in the city center. Before the event officially happened, there was a “Fetish Box” being placed at the campus, where everyone could write down their deep, dark fetishes in any shape or form. Personally, I was not aware if I even have a fetish or not so I did not put anything in.

The night of the event, I was not sure what to wear, since I am not a party person myself. In fact, this is the first ever event from our university that I attended. After some very strange, but fun conversations with several people I met that night, I got to the bar wearing a sloth onesie.

The place was crowded with people, mostly XAMK students. Some dressed up from head to toes based on their fetishes, some got fullon party outfits. My friends and I were dancing all night, drinking and fooling around. Overall, it was a ton of fun.

The party did not stop till around 3 AM, when everybody got tired and a bit tipsy. It was an exciting event, also a solid proof that Valentine’s Day is not just for couples, but us single folks also!

CHOCOLATE MUFFINS

How to make it: - Preheat the oven 220celsius and spray the muffin tray with non-stick cooking spray or line it with parchment paper.

- Get a large bowl and mix all the dry ingredients. The flour, salt, baking powder, vanilla sugar, baking soda and chocolate chips. Set it aside.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, the melted and cooled butter, milk and sugar.

- After you are ready with whisking, get a spatula and start slowly adding the dry ingredients gently until it’s just combined.

- Now divide the muffin mixer into 12-14 cups and bake at 220celsius for about 5mins. Then reduce the oven temperature to 190celsius and continue to bake for 12-15 mins.

- To check if its ready use tooth stick or pasta insert into muffins and see if its clean.

- Make sure you don’t overbake the muffins, so it doesn’t get dry.

Infinity war is upon us and there is only one movie left before Thanos demonstrates us who the true daddy is here. Black Panther doesn’t really show us a lot prior to the most hyped movie ever, nor does it reveal the Soul stone which is apparently yet to be found by Thanos; nevertheless, this is a great movie for T’Challa to begin with.

Of course, the first time we saw Black Panther in action was Civil war but he was a secondary character there, even though he definitely had his moments. In his own movie, Black Panther finally lets us know who he is, what this mysterious Wakanda is and who is perhaps going to replace Tony Stark as the tech genius in the MCU. The film is very beautiful, views and camerawork somehow remind of The Lord of the Rings, which is probably the best compliment a cameraman can earn. But this is a Marvel movie and all of them make our eyes happy. As for our brains, which is usually the weak link in the MCU, the plot is decent but not totally flawless, and the villain is FINALLY good! Killmonger’s ideology and the fact that he was not just the destroy/enslave-the-world-because-I-want-so type of guy but way more complex and maybe even thoughtful are definitely the right direction for Marvel. He does have his philosophy and he can be a good warm-up before Thanos strikes.

All in all, as a hero Black Panther is somewhere between Iron Man with his technology and Captain America with his strength and abs.

As a human, T’Challa is very Steve Rogers-y, always willing to do the right thing. Chadwick Boseman is very good, supporting cast is entertaining, the world is beautiful, the story is good, and the villain is probably second best to Loki – what’s not to love about the new character’s kickoff? Go see the movie if you haven’t.
