We are back with this week’s issue. We hope you had fun and indulged yourself with the different cuisines that were served in the international week. In this week’s issue, we have exiting articles a profile from two Croatian lectures that you could check out. An appetizing traditional Chinese pumpkin pie recipe to treat yourself with. For Mikkeli residents, we have an amazing news! So, check out the article. Also, if you were reminiscing the dish you tasted in the event or just curious to learn different cuisines than we have an article for you. It’s about the 18 countries and their dish name that were participating in the international week. If none of that is captivating than this week’s movie review is a must see! You don’t want to miss a cool movie. Plus, there will be interesting articles for next week. So, stay tuned!

HULK HUGS
Hulk Hugs team On the cloudy and rainy morning of last Saturday, a group of XAMK students arranged a flash mob called "Hulk Hugs". During the even the participants offered their smiles, hugs, and good vibes to strangers. The organizers are XAMK international students: Hoa Le, Kanako Yamashita, Yiming Peng, Linh Nguyen, and 7 more volunteers. Despite a stereotype of shy and introverted nature of Finnish people, the students decided to lighten up gloomy November morning with free hugs. According to Linh, the aim of Hulk Hugs was just spread love, friendliness, and positive mood to people around. The organizers' team include members from Japan, Vietnam, and China. Most of them have taken part in such event for a first-time. Despite a cultural diversity and different attitude to hugs and personal space, there were, even more, participants than expected. For some passersby, hug with strangers was way too far from their comfort zone; so, they walk as fast as they can to avoid eye contact. Fortunately, there were a lot of people joined and hugged with Hulk Hugs team. The passersby were very cheerful for such new experience and said something like ‘wonderful’, ‘beautiful’, and positive comments in Finnish. Hoa, one of the organizers told, that a stranger asked her about a purpose of the event. "Just to make you happy" she replied, and he said "Well, you made it then! Thank you!" Anastasiia Abgarian

Have you ever struggled with the purchasing or selling the bike in Mikkeli? Do you know where to wash your bike? Do you know when the police sell lost bikes? Suffer no more, the group of XAMK students launched a project – Bikes in Mikkeli – which aims to help people find lovely transportation for the daily purposes, all necessary details to it as well as provide the relevant information you need to know to have a bike in Mikkeli. Police confiscation and lost bikes, hidden market, second-hand bikes, unique sales – these all you can find on their Facebook page «Bikes in Mikkeli». If you need a bike – you will find one. If you already have one – take accessories (winter is coming, lights are needed!).
Why is it needed you might ask? - Exchange students need bikes for 4 months and they need somehow sell it afterward. - Newcomers to the city can get the idea what the bike mood exists in the city.
Bikes in Mikkeli – not just a simple service for you, it is promised to grow into a community for bike lovers in Mikkeli. The project is just started, so more people are interested, better outcome we can expect. Daria Chekalskaia

DANCING WORKSHOPS
Salsa Dance Workshop During International Week, all the attendees might have a good time enjoying amazing and sexy moves of our volunteers in dancing workshop sessions. In total, there were 04 workshops, all in main lobby: + Salsa dance from Nikolaos Kitsoujas and Karin Metsapelto + Hip-hop from Daria Chekalsaia, a XAMK student in Mikkeli. + Bollywood dance from Olga Sharma, Anil Asnani, Hasib Irfan and Sudha Pudasaini + Russian dance form Olga Sharma. Thank you all coachs to bring international rhythm into last week’s event making it more unforgettable and long-lasting in everyone’s minds. VISITING-LECTURES INTERVIEWS BANKING COURSE
Banking course was a one-week intensive course held during the International Week. The course topics consisted of banking and central banking operation, how banks work, what are the main products that banks offer and how to use banks in a beneficial way to your personal finances and such in a basic level. Mr. Žiković is a professor in University of Rijeka, the second largest university in Croatia. He is professor in banking, risk management and energy economics. In Rijeka, the class sizes vary from classes like the banking course here (prox.30 students) to amphitheatres. In first years the groups are bigger but then they get smaller. In smaller groups the interaction is easier, and also because 3th and in 4th year students already have better understanding in the field. Visiting lecturing is usual to Mr. Žiković and he is a full visiting professor in Hubert University in Berlin. He goes there every year to teach usually quantitate finance or mathematics. In Finland, the lecturers were through the Erasmus programme. He willingly does quest lecturing and enjoys the international exposure. Besides Finland and Germany, he has been lecturing in: Italy, Slovenia, Russia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and in Hungary. In Finland, he likes the interaction between students and professors. Mr. Žiković recommends Croatia in the sense of traveling, and for people considering a student exchange by mentioning the Mediterranean climate and the Mediterranean culture. Meaning that all the people are open, friendly and outspoken. In Rijeka faculty, they have international business course. The course is in total 5 years, and it is taught fully in English. The University of Rijeka is very exchange student friendly and Rijeka is a very rich student town. Mr. Gržeta is a PhD student from University of Rijeka. He used to work in a bank. After getting a scholarship for PhD in banking, he became a doctor student in University of Rijeka. He works in the faculty as an assistant for Mr. Žiković. His schedule consists of writing articles and studying for his PhD, and assisting Mr. Žiković with his lectures. Mr. Gržeta feels that the approach in teaching in Finland is quite close to the usual approach in teaching in Croatia. This is his first foreign quest lecture, and he hopes more quest lecturing in different countries after finishing his PhD. He highly recommends the University of Rijeka, because of the kind atmosphere and because of how similar it is to our university in Kouvola. The atmosphere in Rijeka is on the other hand very different in comparison to Kouvola, because of the sea, the sun and the warmth. Lotta Lehtinen

FOOD TASTING
It’s been an interesting week. We were able to taste delicious dishes from 18 different countries that was made by the students and staff. Plus, the dishes had lovely textures from sweet, savoury, creamy to spicy. We hope you loved it. We have listed all the 18 countries, their dish names and who made them. So, here we go!
1. China Chinese representative (Lingli) in cooperation with her colleagues (Kris and Topi) brought Pumpkin Pie and Eggs with Tomatoes to our festival in the 2nd day. 2. Hungary Hungarian sweet cakes: Pogacha and Opium Pie definitely smelt your hearts. Those fantastic dishes were made by Julia, Lili, Curistian and our staff member- Sara Czabai. 3. Viet Nam Spring rolls (Cha gio/ Nem ran) was represented as a traditional dish by our students who comes from Viet Nam: Long, Tuyet, Kiet, Hung, Tri and Yen 4. Spain Spanish cuisine and culture was combined into a series of dishes: gazpacho, pintxos, olives, pipas and tortilla. These amazing dishes were made by Juan, Emma, Jose and Ella. 5. France The combination of sweet and savory from French dishes: Croque-Monsieur, Crepes and Caramel made a good impression on attendees about this romantic contry. Those food was prepared by Berenys, Julien, Theo, Alexis and Thibaud. 6. USA The American boy - Leif – represented his culture through a table of full Picnic Food. 7. Belarus Krystina brought tasty Crab Salad and Apple Pie to impress all the attendees.

8. Germany Sausage in a rock might interest in previous week’s festival because of its deliciousness. Thanks to Meika,Valenlin,Luke and Tomi for preparing this food. 9. Somalia Somalia was representing on the 3rd day. Their dish was cuscus salad, Basbousa (sweet coconutsemolina cake) and Somali coffee. It was made by Hafsa and Lotta. 10. Albania Albania was one of the countries that was represented on the 3rd day. They served sheqerpare, fejese and gkespeli a traditional Albanian dish. It was made by Stela and Marija. 11. Belgium Belgium served waffles with cholate and strawberries. It reminded us the summer times. The dish was made by Vnomken and Monie. 12. Russia Russia represented their dish on the 1st day. Their dish was Olivie anu with bread a traditional Russian dish. It was made by Dmitri, Viktoria, Mokrushina and Anya. 13. Finland Finland represented their dish on the 3rd day and the dish was blueberry pie, Karelian pastry and tasty hilla Glöggi. It was made by Tiia, Jenni, Hanna and Francesca. 14. Italy Italy was represented their dish on the 3rd day. They served delicious cold pasta and it was made by Elena, Elmanu, Saia and Sofia. 15. Pakistan Pakistan was also represented their dish on the 3rd day. Their dish was pakora, chat and biryani a traditional Pakistani cuisine that was tasty. It was made by Ramsha, Mahrush, Anil and Hasib. 16. Sweden Sweden served Swedish Oatly, crackers with cream cheese herb and chocolates. It was made by Antti. 17. Czech Republic Czech represented their dish on 1st day. Their dish was Buřty na pivu made by Sasa. 18. Wales Appetizing Traditional Welsh Cake was prepared by staff member Hugh Clack. CHINESE PUMPKIN PIE
Pumpkin pie is a traditional Han Chinese snack. It is sweet, soft inside and crispy outside, loved by all age groups in China. How to make it: 1. Peel the pumpkin and chop it into chunks. 2. Put the chunks into microwave oven for 5-10 minutes or more until they’re soft enough. 3. Press and stir the pumpkin until they become mud-like. 4. Mix the flour with pumpkin mud and make them into dough, add water in moderation if necessary. Knead the dough for several minutes until smooth 5. Divide the dough into several portions. 6. Deep-fry until golden brown in both side. Lingli Jing

First ever movie made entirely by oil painting, that took contribution of over hundred artists to paint. The movie isn’t anything I’ve ever seen before. You can distinguish many painting styles in the movie which gives it a vibrant feel. The story takes place on the aftermath of Vincent Van Gogh’s dead. Van Gogh has been now deceased for a year. Mailman, also former friend of his gets returned a letter written by Van Gogh that never found its destination. The mailman’s son begins a journey to find a rightful owner of the letter, which leads him to the last surroundings of Vincent Van Gogh. There the mailman’s son begins to investigate Van Gogh’s life, final days and the circumstances of his death. More he hears, the more there is incoherence between the stories and the hearsay. Was he a local village fool, a kind person with troubled soul, a mad man, suicidal or possibly murdered? Watching the movie, I felt deep sympathy towards his sufferings. He is now one of the most famous painters, if not the most famous one. He was never appreciated during his lifetime. Only one of proximately 800 of Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings was sold during his life. The one of a kind movie is astonishing and capturing to watch. I sometimes got distracted from the storyline, because I was admiring the paintwork. The storyline had approach that was not the most obvious choice, which I enjoyed. The movie tells the story of Vincent Van Gogh in the most aesthetical way possible.
