EDITORIAL Nama-stay indoors… It’s that time of the year again when the weather is making everyone its victim and people all around Kouvola are just tired of walking and doing the ‘try not to fall challenge’ on the iced-up streets. But let’s face it, it just gets boring staying indoors and all of us need something to do apart from our busy monotonous studying and working schedules. That is where we the INSIDER steps in.
For those of you looking forward to participate and be a part of the Cambridge Venture Camp 2020, don’t miss out on the information and other insights shared by our guest writer this week Kirsi Rouhiainen because afterall it’s hard to say no to a fully funded entrepreneurial camp held in the UK.

TALENT KOUVOLA Talent Kouvola 2020 in Kouvola Town Hall
Thursday there has been an event held in Kouvola Town Hall called “Talent Kouvola 2020”. This event was thought for international business students and it was a possibility for them to meet some companies of the city that are seeking new talents. The event was opened by Jouko Leppänen, Chairman of the city council. He welcomed all the participants and gave a brief introduction to the event.
The second speaker on stage was Timo Nisula, CEO of Kouvolan Lakritsi. His speech was about the business point of view on international business matters. He explained that companies in Kouvola area are mostly looking for new talents to hire and new ideas to add to their business. As he mentioned in his speech, companies are looking for PAL (Passionate, Attitude; Laugh): people that are passionate, that believe in what they are doing, that don’t care about what other people think, with a positive attitude and a smile on their face. Timo Nisula gave a very motivational message: if you are really good at something and you have a talent, don’t let other people letting you down! Our Editor in chief - Hugh Clack, as a presentative speaker of XAMK, continued the event by giving brief information about XAMK’s history 4
of establishment and details of our university programs in general. He especially highlighted the International programs with students from countries all over the world, who were also presented at the event. Hugh was proud of what "Fragments"series XAMK international students can actually offerofby paintings “talents”: not only the competencies being taught from XAMK but also knowledge and skills brought from their own home countries as well as their cultures. Therefore, he hoped that international students would be encouraged to stay after graduating to find internships or training places and a work at the end – that was also the main reason why participants got together at the event: to create networking with local projects.
Last speaker of this event was Katariina Valtonen, development manager of Kouvola city. She started by presenting main figures of Kouvola city, like inhabitants, area, employment structure, unemployment rate, etc. Secondly, she focused on the strategic point of view on international affairs in Kouvola. Touristic areas like Verla Mill Museum, Repovesi National Park, Mustila Arboretum could benefit of international talents. Thanks to its geographical position, Kouvola is the railway city of Finland. In 2015, Kouvola was nominated number one logistic centre of the Nordic Countries and the Baltic States. International talents could help this city to improve the logistics and develop new opportunities for internalization.
After the speeches, the event continued with a small fair. Some main local companies were having their own stands and they were available to talk face to face to all the participants. It was a really good opportunity to get to know companies in the Kouvola area and talk with their representative in person. What’s more? You are appreciated to freely give your ideas towards improvement for Kouvola city that you’ve been expecting. It actually did help this city to become better in the future from the international aspects. Many international organizations in Kouvola spread out the enthusiasm of youth and welcomed all for joining their amazing activities. If you are considering about these opportunities to develop social skills, follow Nuorten Kouvola (@volunteer_kouvola on Instagram) and Multicultural centre SAAGA (Monikultuurikeskus SAAGA on Facebook) to get the latest updates about available events and enjoy. J Telent Kouvola was such an ideal event for connecting and nurturing good ideas to bring value to the local community. We did expect Kouvola city would host more events like that in the future. It would be a great support for international students, who came and desired to get involved in local projects they are interested. And above all, hopefully their voices could be heard and welcomed. P.s: You did find something interesting at the event, didn’t you? Or at least, we hoped you enjoyed the well-prepared coffee and deserts buffet for attendants. It was cold outside but who cared? Cambridge Venture Camp 2020
Cambridge Venture Camp is coming again in spring 2020. Get your business ideas ready and join the adventure of your lifetime! Together with Laurea and Xamk Universities of Applied Sciences, the Cambridge Venture Camp provides a unique opportunity to participate in the intensive entrepreneurial accelerator program which takes place in Helsinki, FI and Cambridge, UK, aiming to bring entrepreneurship closer to students. The twelfth Cambridge Venture Camp is taking place in March and April 2020. Make sure to not miss this once in a lifetime experience. - The Cambridge Venture Camp experience was rated 4,8/5 among last year's attendees. During the 2-week accelerator program, students will develop their business ideas further while getting connected to the startup ecosystem and workshopping with leading industry experts and mentors. The program is free of charge for the selected students, including accommodation and travel expenses. However, please note that transportation to or accommodation in Helsinki Area is not provided for. For Xamk students the Cambridge Venture Camp is wholly sponsored by Kymenlaakso Startup Ecosystem project which aims at fostering entrepreneurship in the region and especially among Xamk students. The project is funded by European Regional Development Fund and Regional Counsils of Kymenlaakso and HelsinkiUusimaa. Furthermore, students will benefit from

GUEST Hjallis Harkimo
Hjallis Harkimo – one of the most motivating personalities in Finland was the reason why auditorium number 357 on the 3rd floor of XAMK University was especially crowded last Friday. Teachers, students and staff members were very excited about upcoming speech. Hjallis Harkimo started his monologue with description of his school years. According to his words, he was not a very dedicated and successful student. Even though, his charisma and optimism helped him to graduate. During his life, Harry Juhani "Hjallis" Harkimo (his full name) has tried many roles. Currently he is Finnish Member of Parliament. However, he is a very successful businessman, sportsman and even a YouTuber! Not so many people know that he is a professional sailor. Every time he needed a “break” from hustle and bustle on the ground, he participated in various yacht races alone. As an advice to all young entrepreneurs and student, Hjallis Harkimo shared one of his many mantras of never quitting in the middle of hard work because if you go back to your comfort zone, enviers will start with their “I’ve told you so...”, whereas on the other hand if you move forward and do what you are doing all the time people, will notice your success and respect you for your dedication. The whole speech was not only about motivational stories held in Finnish as he also included many jokes and personal stories to constantly cheer up the audience. Afterall, this visit was very informative and pleasant for all Finns. TANGOON
Tango for Two
This musical performance takes place at the Anjalankoski theater in the area of Myllykoski (15 min drive from the centre of Kouvola). The theater has been open since 1978, it is chamber and quite comfortable. Musical accompaniment is performed by a chamber ensemble throughout the musical. The musical, a passionate tango dance that needs to be supplemented with music and songs, tells about the life of the 1940s, about the war and its consequences. The influence of time on the everyday life of the average person, which is full of intense contradictions, sorrows and joys, the pulse of life and, ultimately, humiliation. Most of the play takes place in a bar and in the house of two sisters. Unusually, most of the actors are already quite old. The performance is in Finnish.
Starring: • Joonatan - Otto Pilli • Elli (younger sister) - Mari Byman • Silja (elder sister) - Minna Sipinen • Hilda (Joonatan’s mistress at the front) - Netta Herranen Two women who work at XAMK are also involved in the musical: Seija Kiuru-Lavaste and Jutta Tuunanen.
(Source: anjalankoskenteatteri.fi) The performance begins with the sad moment of the funeral, where the grouchy old woman (mother of two daughters) continually, scolding the deceased. However, the plot is quite simple, there lived 2 sisters who are in love, with one man named Joonatan, he is a singer. Joonatan is quite loving, meets an older sister (Silja), wants to marry a younger one (Elli). Parents of sisters, strongly 8
TARVITAAN KAKSI against the marriage of Elli and Joonatan. Time passes, the younger sister admits from whom she expects a child, after a frank conversation with Silja. Elli decides to leave, at the station 3 Germans harass her and try to rape a pregnant woman, but the older sister manages to come to her aid, but it was already too late for her sister to have a miscarriage and she lost her baby. The war begins, Joonatan goes to the front, falls in love with a young girl there. Joonatan and Hilda meet in the evenings in a restaurant, drink, have fun. One evening, a notice of the end of the war finds lovers in a restaurant, gentlemen invite ladies to a dance, and young lovers dance a passionate dance - tango. While he was at the front, the older sister told the younger one that she had a child and that she would give the youngest child so that she would raise him as her own. After Joonatan returns home, they, along with Elli, raise their “own� child. And the older sister, from worries about her family, the fate of her sister is more than her own, because of her unreceived love and happiness, she decides to throw herself under the train. Years passed, the father of the sisters accidentally learning about the love affairs of Joonatan at the front, his betrayal of Elli, decided on a very terrible crime, to kill Joonatan. He came to a restaurant where Joonatan sang and in front of visitors he shot a pistol. After the performance itself, I managed to get to know and talk a bit with the performer of the role of the elder sister - Minna Sipinen. I remember it and liked it the most, so I was very glad to meet her! I really liked this musical, I will definitely go to it again! I advise everyone to go to it, you will not regret it! Twitter of Xamk
Last week, we talked about how is our school's instagram account is used and made some suggestions. We will see how this will effect the usage of instagram. This week our topic is our twitter account. Same things can be said for twitter account. It is in Finnish; it is most likely to give insights about what is going on and what is being done in our school. This is a way to use social media but as I wrote last a day or 2 and make posts in their language and week, it can be used on more convenient. Social make people see that our school exist through them. To clarify, nothing politic should be shared media should be to reach out to more people. or said. How can we do it in twitter? Twitter is different from instagram. It is more professional, and companies When there is an event in anywhere in the world, use it a lot more often. Schools use it to give there should be something in there. For example, information to their students. I checked few Turkish recently, we lost Kobe. Respect. There is no post schools on twitter, and they talk about different about this. There has been earthquake in Turkey, things. But there are more things happening there there is nothing shared. Of course, the pain should I would guess. For example, every sports event not be used to get interactions but sharing feelings that the school is participating, they let people in this kind of situations is important for everyone know through twitter. Football games, Wrestling and we are not doing it. If these were too far, last tournaments, swimming races etc. Since almost week on Thursday, we were on Kouvola city hall everything is in Finnish, I did not understand what for an event with few different organizations. CEO they mean, and I did not translate. Usually there was about 3 posts their defence, maybe they did not know that this per day, but this event was mentioned once. One event existed but we have no interactions with them so we could not let them know. could say it's pretty passive. How can it be done? I can have an example with the same topic of last week. Our main point is to make social media accounts more convenient and make it possible to reach out to more people through it. As an example, from past, Turkish football player, Arda Turan, used his team's twitter account for 1 day. The team is FC Barcelona and instead of his own, he uses the team's official account and likes Turkish things, retweet Turkish stuff. and this has been on the agenda in Turkey for few days. Just by letting the player use the account, FC Barcelona made tons of interactions in Turkey. For our school, a Vietnamese student could use it for 10
This is the last article about this the social media of our school. The reason I wrote these is to give a different perspective about the subject and help to the school environment. The final aim on these ideas is to create a better student profile for this school which is, I suppose, many people's aim. I think the best thing about this school is how much we, the students, participate on everything and I believe this behaviour will also help on this subject as well. Muhammet Cakiroglu

REVIEW Jojo Rabbit
“Sometimes all we need to do is..” watch a good satire comedy. I never thought that just after a week of watching and reviewing a serious and dramatic war movie, 1917, I will be reviewing something like Jojo Rabbit. Set in the gruesome atmosphere of Germany amidst WWII, the story revolves around a 10-year-old boy Johannes “Jojo” Betzler, a young Fascist fanatic fueled by the false propagandas & extreme patriotism, who discovers that his own mother has been hiding a Jewish girl all this time. To be fairly honest, just like majority of the viewers who saw the trailer of this movie on its release, I was also left with a confused opinion by its ‘cute and vanilla’ theme and had totally different expectations about the final piece. But little did I know, that this movie would be a roller coaster ride full of all possible emotions one can feel with the comic tone as the safety limit. There is no doubt about Taika Waititi’s awesome sense of humor and how he perfectly delivers it through his amazing cinematography, but in this case, he got so caught up improvising the role of never seen before, hilarious Adolf Hitler, Jojo’s imaginary friend that he had to direct the movie simultaneously in his character clothes. Debutants like Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo) and Archie Yates (Yorkie, Jojo’s bestfriend) deserve huge praise for their impressive work, especially considering their young age of just 12 and 10 respectively. Also, Scarlett Johansson can be seen giving one of her most powerful performances ever while portraying Jojo’s mother. Apart from the ensemble cast, the script and dialogue of the movie are great as each satire in the movie is written with such subtle smartness that it captures the absurdity from these times brilliantly in a rather (sadly) truthful way. The movie actually leaves the audience thinking – is HATRED amongst people even necessary? If you think that you can handle a good political satire which makes you laugh one moment and cry like a baby in the next, then this one’s for you.
