January has come and gone already. Thus, if you still somehow feel lost about your plans this semester, make a move now or regret later.

Chase adventures, joy, kindness and all the little things life offers to you. No matter what you do and where you go, you’ll reach your destinations as long as having hope and faith in your heart.

As snow is back and Kouvola has been incredibly covered in the white color, why not set up a cozy coffee time with your friends after school? Just to remind: bring Insider with you to not miss all the good stories from our team this week.

Now let’s have a quick look! Lidia is going to introduce you all about the Runeberg Day, which is named after the famous poet - author of Finland’s national anthem “Maamme”. Whilst, Arian had chance to meet Lida – the president of Student Union Kaakko. He would surely bring you an interesting story about this amazing girl and Kaakko as well.

We might say “We are so busy in our daily life” as an excuse for procrastinating in reducing energy and waste to protect the environment. However, you will not be alone on this green journey and it will never be too late to challenge yourself. Let's follow Claudia’s sharing and see how we can develop a green lifestyle as a student in 10 simple ways, shall you?

Dear baking lover, “a homemade apple pie” must definitely be on your bucket list all year long. Anna would tell the best secret of baking a perfect a sweet apple filling and a tender crust. While the snow is falling outside, any weeknight meal can be more special to enjoy the delicacy and great smell of this apple pie in the cozy kitchen corner.

Hmm, have you followed our university Instagram or Facebook page yet? Because Muhammet would reveal his critique about the social media channel of XAMK in some ways. And to end this issue is a movie review from Prakhar. 1917 movie - the journey to find life amidst a brutal war is promised not to let you down even one second.

RECIPE Apple Pie One amazing feature of an apple, except the fact that it has become logo of number one technology company in the world, is that this fruit is easily available in many countries any time of the year.

That is why Apple pie can be served in any kind of occasions and events.

Ingredients: • 1 bowl of apples • 3 tablespoons of flour • 1/2 cup of sugar (brown or white) • 1 egg • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice • 1 teaspoon of spices according the taste (cinnamon/ginger/nutmeg) or berries Directions: 1. Cut apples and remove the peel.

2. In one bowl, combine the sugar, flour and spices. Add the egg and stir the dough together with a fork or by hand. If the dough is dry, sprinkle up cold water over the mixture.

3. In the bigger bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Add a pinch of sugar as well.

4. Layer the dough in the baking form and refrigerate it for about 10 mins.

5. Put the apple filling in the centre. Brush the top edges of the dough with the egg, and sprinkle with spices or berries.

6. Bake the pie on the average temperature 220°C for 30-45 minutes.

RUNEBERG DAY What is this day all about?

In the calendar, Runeberg Day was first celebrated in 1950, when they began to especially celebrate the days dedicated to outstanding personalities.

Many poems by Johan Ludwig Runeberg are put to music. More than 320 composers have written over 900 works on his texts. The book of psalms also contains many tunes to Runeberg's verses.

Maamme's poem has been put to music more than 20 times. To be awarded this prize, works written in Finnish or Swedish are nominated. This holiday has another interesting tradition on this day it is customary to treat yourself to Runeberg cakes made according to the recipe of the poet’s wife Frederica.

Runeberg Day (Fin. Runebergin päivä) - Finland’s national holiday, celebrated on the 5th of February, the birthday of Finnish poets Johan Runeberg, the author of the words of the Finnish national gymnasium “Maamme” and a series of poems about the Russian-Swedish war of 1808-1809 for example the most famous called "Tales of Ensign Stol." As a holiday attribute, it is prescribed to hang out, national flag of Finland. he is on the flagpole from 8 to 16 hours. On the occasion of Runeberg Day, traditionally one of the most prestigious literary awards in Finland is awarded since 1987 and it calls “the Runeberg Prize”.

The social media of XAMK

Last semester, we had social media marketing class which we had a task of having social media account to promote our school. This raised a question in my head. How is our school using social media? I checked Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. Since I do not use Facebook, I did not check what is going on there and it is quite difficult to find the twitter and LinkedIn accounts if you don’t know the specific link to them. So, this article will be focused on Instagram usage of our school’s official social media account.

First of all, the whole Instagram account is used in Finnish. I have gone quite down to see old posts and I found only 1 English post. To criticize this behaviour, we would first need to understand the reason for the existence of the account. It seems to be like it is a source for Finnish students to know and see what is going on around the school and posts about the events that are taking place in it. Something else to comes to my mind with same reason to exist. The Insider.

We are doing this already for our students in English and I can understand that they would want to keep a source in Finnish as well. But, to me, this seems like huge waste of opportunity.

First, I would like to make an offer to our Finnish students in Kouvola Campus. They all can join to Insider, and even they can create a new weekly

magazine that would be in Finnish. I am quite sure our teachers would help them to create such a content in the school since the Insider is having problems to reach out to Finnish students. In my opinion, it is not necessary to create a Finnish magazine, but it would be a good addition if we had some Finnish students that write with us.

They would encourage their friends to read the magazine which would end up in a good result for The Insider but more importantly, the social media would be freed from this waste. What do I mean by waste? Social media is one of the biggest weapons in our time to reach out to people. To give an example, it is the best way to organize an event for helping in a difficult situation. In Turkey, there have been recently an earthquake and a Turkish NBA player Cedi Osman made a post to help the effected of the earthquake and in very short time they raised this huge amount of help.

This example is very small one to show how social media can be used to reach out new people.

If social media is used to reach out to different people in different places of the world, I believe the numbers of applicants would be raised in future. Which would end up with a result of higher quality students and contents in our school. This is easy to say, but hard to accomplish. So, I have been brainstorming about it and made an idea how to achieve this. What came to my mind is that

PAJA EVENT we have brand ambassadors. I think our teacher would be willing to help this since some of them teach about this kind of marketing strategies. The idea is that the social media accounts will be given to brand ambassador to use. The students must be chosen very precisely to achieve the goal here.

They must be from different countries and active social media users. They must know the social media tags in their country to use them. What will they do? They will share positive posts about their life in our school and the city they study. They will try to reach out more people in their country and create a question in people’s mind in the country. What is this Xamk? When this question is raised, our school must be reachable which can be criticized. I would like to use an example from another school for this. In university of Amsterdam, UvA, when you go to their website, there is a link for a whatsapp message. I do not precisely know how they use it, but our school can use it in many different ways including giving information to potential students about how to apply and the requirements. This can be used automatically but this is a technical issue which can be discussed by the authorities.

Back to our subject, When I was trying to apply to our school, I could have done it alone, but it seemed very difficult since it was hard to find a contact.

The way to apply was going through different websites and it was hard to follow everything. I am not saying it was too difficult, but it can be made much easier. One way could be using the social media accounts to let people know we exist and then allowing people to use these social media accounts to ask question where the authority that uses that account lead people to right directions to know more about our school.

To summarise the idea, students from different countries could be chosen to use the social media accounts of our school to post about their life in a positive way and use tags to reach out people from their countries. When people see these posts and want to know more about our school, they could be given a lead to reach right information to be able to apply for our school. In our time, the issue ‘social media is not the way to discuss professional manners’ will not raise which I have seen before. Even presidents in our time give messages through social media today. So, it can be used to every possible way. If necessary, I would be willing to talk about this more precisely.

Let us see how the social media usage will change in our school.

7. Stop buying things that you don’t need. The more things you buy, the more things will be accumulated in your house or will end up in the nature. So, stop your impulsive shopping and think if you really need a product before buying it.

8. Check out second-hand shops. Second-hand shops offer a wide range of products, from clothes to house tools and decorations. There, you can find many different things in good conditions that has been changed just because of new trends. So, try to take a break from the “fast fashion” and invest in sustainability.

9. Keep your notes and schedule digitally. Use your smartphone calendar and reminders to reduce the amount of paper at minimum .

10. Decorate your house with plants. Plants exercise. You can find second-hand bikes remove toxins, improve air quality, reduce for cheap prices or you can start using the stress levels and they just look so good as a bicycle sharing system available in your city. house decoration!

Meet Iida Pilli-Sihvola

I'm from Kouvola I was studying a bachelor's degree in Mikkeli now I moved here since I'm only finishing my thesis.

I was born in Kuusankoski. My parent's house it's like a typical Finnish house. If you think about a Finnish house, how do you imagine it?

I imagine it a big red house with a huge yard that children can play around. We had no neighbors nearby so we didn't bother anyone. Most of my summers I've spent at my grandparent's summer cottage. I was training karate while growing up for about 8 years but I guess when I became a teenager other things got my interest.

I went to Kuusankoski high school and graduated from the school in 2016. I applied to mikkeli university of applied sciences Comunity educator (Yhteisรถpedagogi) I like studying here it's very qualitative education.

When we graduate we can work in youth houses or anything to do with yongestrs it's a wide area what we can do. I've been in school for my whole life and I'm looking forward to graduating to go out to have a real job and travel.

I got elected as a president of kaako for 2020. is a big responsibility. I'm responsible for all the board members that they finnish their tasks and of course the people who work for us. Being able to see the challenges from a leader's point of view inspires me to think that in the future, I might find my self in politics. I've always been intersted to help people for example in Kaako I help people. Most of the people just don't feel comfortable to stand for themselves and as a community educator, I can do that with youngsters too. soo that we that we can all proceed to a better future.

This year I'm elected as President of the Kaako organization. Kaako is the student union in XAMK, it is run from students for students. If there is any problem with studies, in life or any XAMK locations we can help get over the problems and we have specialist who can tell what's the problem. We are inside the institution and if there is any problem that we can take we are here to help about official problems like if you dont get your study points on time or if a teacher is not good enough on his job, the building is not healthy or cleaned, if the air it's not fresh inside university and personal problems that affect your studying like health care and I think we all need to find a job that inspires us to housing. go to work every day.

It is quite fair to assume that most of the people know this movie for the fact that it has been nominated for countless awards, including the upcoming Oscar 2020, while already winning some big ones like the Golden Globes, USA. Now, normally when people walks into theatre to watch a movie that has been so highly rated even before its release, there are two segments of viewers – one, the people who are sceptical about the movie and think that going with the critics was an utter waste of their time, while the other, which are just captured by the brilliance of such movie just like many big critics. In simple words, people who like or dislike the movie.

When I walked out after the premiere, I realized that this movie wasn’t made to segregate its audience in these two categories. For instance, if someone was not impressed by the acting, they’d still be in love with the way this movie was directed or if someone had problems with the script, they’d forget about it for the beautiful poetry and dialogues that the movie has and so on. This movie is a perfect reminder why there shouldn’t be a third world war, which is quite a trending topic these days.

Hats off to Sam Mendes, who has done a brilliant work in directing this movie as One Shot which keeps the audience on their toes throughout its 120 min of runtime, making it one of the most interesting and tense movies recently. The movie has been written like a poem in which the whole crew came together to deliver a brilliant artwork. I’d love to discuss the cast and their amazing performance, but then again, you’re welcome for NO SPOILERS! No matter if you are a fan of war-movies, played one-too-many Call of Duty and Battlefield campaigns or just a casual movie viewer, it is safe to say that you wouldn’t be disappointed to spend your money for this.
