THE MAZE RUNNER(2014) / Director: Wes Ball / Genre: Action|Thriller|Sci-Fi / Starring: Dylan O‘Brien, Kaya Scoledario, Will Poulter / Rating: This movie is based on a best-selling novel „The maze runner“ by James Dashner. A boy with his memory missing is delivered into a new environment full of young men and boys, surviving in a giant, very dangerous maze, fending for themselves. We watch him go through remembering bits and pieces of his life, fighting for himself and others and running in the maze finding out it‘s secrets. This first part of a trilogy introduces us to a spectre of characters, emotions and evil things. Having read the books, it is hard to tell how I feel about it. The colours in the movie and the ambience is pretty cool. The crazy intimidating maze works perfectly and induces enough horror into the imaginative mind. The cast is pretty good as well. No complaints of bad acting or irritation what-so-ever. They delivered the emotions of the „run or die“ theme and kept true to their purpose. The plot is interesting and keeps you entertained throughout the movie. Some pretty big stuff is kept out of the movie, that has been a crucial and very important in the books, and that makes me feel unsure of how they will continue it‘s adaptation. All in all, I felt energised, excited and entertained. I felt the horror and the fight for their young lives and I will continue to watch this trilogy as it continues on. My recommendation is to most definitely read the books, and do go see this film!
