EXCHANGE VIEW This week we had a chance to sign up for clubs and societies. Signing up for a club cost two euros and with that you can be part of the activities for the whole year. Because it was so easy and cheap to sign up I ended losing my control. To consider that in Finland I’ve been basically allergic to sports for three years, someone might find it surprising that I ended up signing myself for volleyball, pilates and hillwalking. To be honest I probably won’t be going to any of those sports as I’m way too lazy. But at least I’m pretending to be active. I have to say that IT Carlow’s clubs and society-system is great. You have so many things to choose from, so it doesn’t matter if you’re into knitting or horse riding because you will find a club for yourself. Joining a club or a society is also a great chance for meeting new people. As an exchange student you mainly meet only other Erasmus students, but in these activities you have a chance to meet also local people. On Sunday we decided to visit Waterford. Waterford is the oldest city in Ireland and it is located next to the sea. It’s only one hour trip by train from Carlow, so it was perfect for a daytrip. The city is probably best known for its history and the Waterford-crystals. We visited the Waterford-crystal centre. After we realised that we couldn’t afford anything, we decided to go to Penney’s. Penney’s is the Irish version of Primark, and it might be the best shop in the world if you’re a student. Even if the quality isn’t great, everything is so cheap that it doesn’t matter. Of course there were lot of other places to see but we wanted to get to know the Irish food culture and relax. We ended up eating Sunday roast in a rooftop terrace and it was the perfect thing to do. TALENT SHOW @KYAMK

As a part of International week there was a so-called talent show in Kyamk. Despite the fact that we could enjoy only three performances, this part of the evening was interesting and bright. Bold spirits from Hungary, Russia and the Netherlands presented their countries and showed high skills in different artistic areas. Lively Hungarian dance from Sarolta Gyetvai and Peter Zana painted the event in cheerful colours. The national costumes of dancers gave a zest to the performance. Surprisingly, Hungary does not have unified dance. Originally every village has its own dance and on Tuesday we could see one from Transylvania, a Hungarian part of Romania. Csárdás (a special movement in a dance) of Sarolta and Peter helped us catch the unique spirit of mixed cultures. Russian girl Uliana Kovaleva continued our talent show with a great cover on a song ‚Feeling good‘. Her clear and deep voice fascinated everyone, we were struck by the fact that in such a small and fragile girl lives so strong voice. Final part of the show was a number of two talented Dutch young men. Menno Snel and Ringo Verkley did a great mush-up of world famous songs. Elton John‘s song smoothly flew into U2, then The Beatles, Bob Marley, Lady Gaga... Everything sounded as an organic whole. Our talent show was short but memorable. Participants showed their best and every performance was marvelous. Let‘s thank our students for such a good entertainment, we are lucky to know so gifted persons. Text & Photos:Iuliia Pogorelova

ABC PARTY Text;Diana Kamaletdinova Photos:Sarah Rosenthal There are some days when our design students are sick and tired of wearing casual clothes. Thus, they are trying to diverse their wardrobe with some crazy outfits that most people don`t wear. Unfortunately, not all the students from different departments can afford it – the society just won`t understand them. Can you imagine a business student wearing a huge yellow tutu skirt with a purple top? Probably not. It is unfair, that we are always expected to be formal and tame, even if we want to look exotic and weird. That`s why, this year we were given a chance to express ourselves by wearing anything we wanted. The theme of the Kupla party was ABC – Anything But Clothes. The task was to prepare the most creative costume using different materials, except fabrics. The variety of ideas was huge. Dresses from napkins and garbage bags, jackets made with a sticky tape and paper – it is impossible to imagine that people can actually come up with it by themselves! The most surprising fact is that students managed not only to dance in these costumes, but also to participate in different contests moving with ease. The House of Rock was literally on fire that night! People were dancing from 10 p.m. till 4 a.m. and they didn`t want to stop. It was so much fun watching shy people dancing like they didn`t care about anything else in the world. This attitude was contagious and it was difficult to remain indifferent. There are no such words to express how awesome this event was! Thank you for a good organization and a great time. We are looking forward to the next party already.

Synopsis - Officers Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Schmidt (Jonah Hill) go undercover at a local college. Their job? To catch the bad guys with all their wit and cunning while facing a crisis in their relationship. Meeting new people and making new experiences shows them how different both of them really are and how easily they are growing apart from one another. But wait, that sounds a little deep for a Jonah Hill movie. Yes, you are right and I am sure all the of this is just accidental. This movie is what Adam Sandler has been trying to do for a very long time unsuccessfully. While his jokes aim to be funny and are essentially the opposite, the writers of this movie aim so low with their jokes that it is absolutely impossible for you to not be entertained. Apparently there is a prequel to this one that I have not seen because about half the jokes are about how they are doing the first movie all over again - so basically a parody of every successful Hollywood movie where the producer just cannot get enough money. Only instead of milking a dead cow they bring up a mirror. The movie illustrates sharply what happens to a lot of people when they go off to college. They think nothing is going to change, that their friendship is eternal and… wait, NO! Just like all the movies for kids this is not supposed to be in any way deep and well thought through, and it probably is not, but it still has a lot more substance and most movies these days alone for the fact that it is trying to have none at all. All in all this movie is more a statement of the current state of the movie industry than anything I have seen in a long time. Right, probably not, but the penis jokes were really funny, I swear, or perhaps I am just easily entertained
