EDITORIAL Alppien coffee shop and pastry shop in Kouvola Have you ever been to Alppien? If no, this article is for you! I visited this coffee & pastry shop this week and had a small conversation with its owner. Her name is Sasa Arhar and today you will get acquainted with this lovely place! Sasa Arhar is a Slovenian young woman. She moved to Kouvola seven years ago with her boyfriend he was an ice hockey player and when Sasa was searching for a job, she was not able to find it due to she did not know the Finnish language at all at that moment. Finally, in Finland Sasa found her first job as a cleaner but after some time when she was pregnant and knew Finnish well, Sasa decided what she did not want to be a cleaner anymore and started working in Sinuhe Bakery Shop.

Alppien is called so because the desserts which are made here are baking in countries next to the Alps. There you can find Italian-style desserts, French sweets, Austrian desserts, etc. Thus, this is a new type of coffee & pastry shop in Kouvola where you can become acquainted with multicultural desserts and coffee. Now, this local company needs new employees and if you have got skills in baking, they will be glad to see you! Also, it offers internships. See you there!

Baking and making cakes was her life passion. When Sasa was little she had was fighting with her mother due to she was interested to bake something that she liked on her own. After moving to Kouvola Sasa's friends told her: " You should open some bakery shop or something like that because you love to do it so much " and when Sasa was working in Sinuhe and it came to a decision that the bakery would close down and move to Lahti. After that, her friends told her that now it is time to open her own business and Sasa decided to do it. Alppien was founded in 2019 and the place there is this coffee & pastry shop is located now was needed a total renovation. After the renovation was finished, the coronavirus pandemic was started so it was impossible to open the Alppien. Sasa was waiting three months and only after that she open this coffee& pastry shop and things went well, but now with new lockdown rules, it is quite empty in Alppien.

Loneliness in Art

It is not a secret that month ago many of us have moved to Finland, Kouvola and opened new chapter of life called University. Some of students came from the other countries so they have double stress situation because of emigration and totally new environment. Friendship and other human help is necessary for everybody in this situations but sometimes it is impossible. It doesn’t matter why it’s impossible, due to distance, changes or something else. There are always things that could help to deal with loneliness except of people. Mine best rescuer is art. Artists are the most sensitive people, they are always looking for things that are hidden behind as our emotions and experiences. Recently, I have read a book written by Olivia Laing which main topic is loneliness and the structure of it. It is name is «The Lonely City: Adventures in the Art of Being Alone». In this book she is discovering loneliness throw the city (at first) and its inhabitants. The author is asking herself questions like: what is loneliness? How does it expressed? What is the impact of loneliness on human life?

The most interesting fact of this book is authors tools. She is cognizing loneliness through the city and crowd. The main point of all her discussions is that the loneliness is phenomenon which is connected only with you and how are you feeling yourself. From the first pages Olivia is trying to find the answers but there are no clear answers because all people are feeling everything differently and loneliness is not an exception. ALEKSIS

Aleksis Kivi Day / Day of Finnish Literature

of the author: 12 plays, 1 novel, and he is also remembered by the Finns for various kinds of stories.

(source: kansalliskirjasto.fi) Aleksis Kivi is the father of Finnish literature. Annually on the 10th of October is the day of the writer Aleksis Kivi (10.10.1834–31.12.1872), the author of the first Finnish novel. His birthday is also celebrated as the Day of Finnish Literature. Aleksis Kivi was born under the surname Stenvall in Palojoki, 33 kilometres north of Helsinki, to a tailor's family. He was one of the rare youths in this region who entered the university at 23 in the middle of the 19th century, and the only one from the people: the rest were from the upper classes. Although he studied mainly in Swedish, he received recognition for a novel written in Finnish under the pen name Aleksis Kivi, the Finnish version of his original Swedish surname. During his life, Aleksis Kivi wrote relatively little - the world is especially aware of 13 works 6

(source: suomesta.ru) The most famous became his only novel, which was called "Seven Brothers" published in 1870. It is Finland's national novel, and Kivi himself has since been considered the first professional Finnish-language writer and national writer in Finland. This work became famous because it was written in Finnish and not in Swedish. The novel has now been translated into 25 languages. Opponents of the novel said, among other things, that everything that the author outlined in the work

KIVI is lies and slander, and the people of Finland cannot be like that. In this regard, the publication of the work had to be postponed for 3 long years. In addition to the novel "Seven Brothers", the most famous works by Aleksis Kivi are the plays "Kullervo", "Nummi's Shoemakers", "The Engagement", "Leo". Aleksis Kivi did not live long. He suffered from typhoid fever, often starved, and his placement in a psychiatric clinic with a diagnosis of schizophrenia only made the situation worse. As a result, he died on 31st of December in 1872, at the age of 38. Photo 5 traveller.ru

Nowadays, anyone can visit the house-museum of Aleksis Kivi in Siuntio. Flowers are laid every year on October 10 at the writer's monuments in Helsinki and Nurmijärvi. The national flag of Finland is raised throughout the country. And also, the Finnish Literary Society on this day announces the winner of the prestigious literary prize of the country.

ART

Patricia Piccinini art exhibition Patricia Piccinini is an Australian artist that was born in Sierra Leona. She is best known for her realistic-looking human-like art figures, but she also does painting, digital prints, and different kinds of videos. In 2014 in an interview, she stated how she was inspired by nature and evolution to create lifelike figures of anthropomorphic figures. Her first exhibition gained huge popularity and in 2014 she was given the Melbourne Art Foundation Award. Her exhibition was in Helsinki in taidehalli from 15.8.2020 till 25.10.2020. The exhibition had many anthropomorphic figures. The figures looked very realistic and even scary. Patricia gave a new meaning to art and it was hard to think that the figures were not alive as you can see from the picture above. Even the hair was real human hair. Her art brought up many feelings such as fear and love. The exhibition itself was in a large building and each art piece had a story. The stories were fascinating. In the picture below two bonobomonkey-like figures are hugging and showing affection. Bonobos are known for being very social and they cuddle with each other to show love. Patricia wanted to show with this art piece that we humans share similar traits with these figures. The art piece makes the viewer feel empathetic and there were many people surrounding the air piece. The exhibition was worth the visit.

TIPS/TRICKS

How to strike a balance between studies and free-time?

With this kind of planning, you will be much more productive because of the time saved in organizing your tasks. Furthermore, ask around about the organized activities in your town or university. Think about doing some sport and moving your body in your free time. Also, being with good company will make this more fun. So, think about inviting your friends, family members, or whoever to join you. Moreover, a good tip is to turn off your alarm at the weekends because you deserve some extra sleeping. MOVIE Saint Maud Director: Rose Glass Leading cast: Morfydd Clark, Jennifer Ehle, Lily Knight The movie is about a nurse who is devoutly religious and becomes dangerously obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patients. The nurse is called Maud and her first patient is called Amanda. Amanda is dying from cancer and Maud takes it up to her to save her soul. As Maud wants to save Amanda’s soul, Amanda wants to teach Maud how to live. In the middle of the movie you can see how her religion turns into this obsession of some sort. The movie shows near the end that Maud thinks God really does speak to her. The end is a burning one, literally. I felt as if the movie in the beginning wasn’t as scary as some say. I didn’t feel the build up at all and I only got spooked in the end when Maud is on her final mission to save Amanda. I don’t do well with horror in general, I try to avoid it. This movie as a horror movie in my opinion wasn’t so good.
