EDITORIAL Every year winter seems to surprise us...

Hey everyone, winter is ever so slowly creeping its way into the air, well… at least in South-Korea, but I digress, welcome to another week of Insider!

From what I’ve heard is that offline classes have slowly started over there and oh man am I jealous, Korea is super strict with it’s handling of Covid-19 so there won’t be any offline classes during this semester, so do enjoy it to the fullest! Even if you can go to classes and socialize do remember to wear a mask and wash your hands regularly!

Caution is key to minimizing cases.

This week on Insider we have Lidiia explaining about a certain feline phenomenon in Kallingrad: Zelenogradask! This resort town is apparently loaded with cats (I can imagine the noise) and other amazing attractions.

To delve deep into human psychology; Marian has provided an interesting thought piece on human behaviour and what it truly means to be introverted or extroverted. It’s a very interesting thought piece, so I do recommend giving it a read.

Yours truly is back again this week with an Exchange view on Korean university culture, mainly focusing on the snacks that many students buy when they study. It also works as a helpful guide on how to not starve in Korea (haha).

Speaking of food, Ikram is teaching all you lovely readers how to make French Crépes! Sounds delicious, be sure to check it out!

Last, but not least we have the movie review provided by Ave-Liis. Seems like she went to watch Ensilumi (Any day now) and is here to tell her thoughts about it. From what I can gather it seems to be a drama about refugee family.

KNOW YOURSELF An introvert, extrovert, or both.

Humans are complex creatures and although we are naturally social animals, people's emotions in social interaction vary from person to person. If there is a student that is often quiet, seems to be in their thoughts most of the time, and does not seek attention, this student might be an introvert.

Although we cannot make such a conclusion based on the mentioned observations, introverted people often possess these traits. Some people are in a constant state of anxiety in social settings and these feelings can be around even with close friends and relatives. These people, however, flourish when they are alone and for example perform better alone when given task. We call these people introverts.

The opposite of an introvert is an extrovert.

Extrovert people in comparison seek attention and social engagements. They thrive when there are people around them and they are often the loudest ones in the group. When an extrovert person must stay home alone, they will often struggle and might even have anxiety because they lack social interactions. It is usually easier to spot an extrovert person in the group than to find the introverted one.

You can see this as a continuum scale with extroverted people being far-right and introverted people being far left. Some people will fall in between and some more on the left side. People that fall in between will enjoy social settings but also need their alone time. They will for example take a breathing break when interacting with a group to recharge the energy needed for the social setting.

However, introverted people should be given more chances. For example, schools could always give the option to work on your own and not force people to work together. Although group working in schools is vital, students should have the option to work alone as well. In the working world, employees need to realize that introverted people can also excel too if their needs are considered. Giving all employees the chance to work at home from time to time is a great way to give the introverts chance to excel.

In a school setting, it is easy to see who is more leaning towards extroverted personality and who is more introverted. Oftentimes both the working world and schools favor extroverted

COLOUR

The influence of colour on the human psyche in the interior.

Our usual habitat, which is shaped by design, has a huge impact on human health and psyche. That is why it is vital that the layout, the objects, and colours around us are consistent with the character traits of the people for whom it is done. Also, colours help you to form a healthy psychological climate and contribute to a comfortable living.

In recent years, a lot of attention has been paid to colour. We are able to perceive colour only with our eyes, and it affects almost our entire body: our mood, well-being, health.

How does colour affect a person?

A correctly selected range of colours when decorating rooms not only decorates the interior but also creates a positive mood among the people who are in it.

For example, there are colour combinations that can dramatically increase productivity and ease your work, create a calm and cosy environment conducive to good conversation and relaxation, as well as emphasize certain details in the room and hide others.

It is at the junction of psychology, physiology, physics, lighting engineering, and art history that one can learn how and why colour affects our organisms.

Cold colours in the interior, on the contrary, calm the nervous system. They help to wisely use the body's resources, to maintain performance longer.

There is a special group of colours: shades of the middle part of the spectrum (blue-blue, greenblue, yellow-green colours) and mixed soft pastel colours (green-grey, grey-blue, turquoise colours).

Their effect on humans is most beneficial. They have a calming, pacifying effect.

In different psychological states, we can perceive the same colour in different ways. In addition, historically, certain colours contain clear symbols - state, religious, secular. Using this body of knowledge, designers choose colours for the interior.

Long-term studies and observations have revealed that the colours of the short-wavelength part of the spectrum (blue, green, blue) and the long-wavelength part of the spectrum (yellow, red, orange) affect different parts of the human nervous system. Therefore, the first group of colours began to be called cold, and the second - warm.

Warm colours affect us like coffee in the morning.

Health care student at XAMK

I took an interview with a third-year student of Health care bachelor's degree of Xamk university.

It was interesting to ask about her studying process, especially during the pandemic, of course, her opinion about the program, her future plans, and some advice for starters or people, who wondering to be a health care worker in the future.

1.) Hi! Tell us a little bit about yourself.

-Hey, well I have studied public health nursing since 2017, now I am a third-year student, and next year I will graduate.

2.) How your third year differs from the first one and the second one?

The first year and the second one were a little bit busier than this third year is, but the third year is more interesting than the others are because you can more focus on public health nursing courses and you have more practice. In the first and the second year, we had more registered nurse courses, it was more about treating people, but now we are focusing on how to prevent illnesses.

In the first and second years, we had practice at hospitals or facilities where are we treating people, but now practical training is in health care clinics.

3.) Why did you choose this program to study?

- This is a hard question. The main reason is that I like working with people. Also, I think it is because I want to help people, and also, I want to be a part of something good and bigger than me. I suppose this is a part of my personality. I love the idea that I could have an impact on someone's life and help them to be healthier and help them with everything, I guess.

4.) Why did you choose Xamk?

-To be honest, Xamk was not the first on my university list, because I lived in Tampere at that time, but I did not get to Tampere university, so that is why I came here. I like studying at Xamk and everyone is really nice in our group. Also, I receive all the necessary information for my future career and teachers are really supportive, they always make sure that we choose a placement or a course that we want to focus on.

5) How your practice is going in corona time?

Well, I was supposed to have two placements this spring but they were canceled because of the pandemic but now I have my first placement after the beginning of the pandemic and there I have to wear a mask and different kinds of protection, and because I work with babies it is more difficult, I suppose, to do the practical training now.

6.) Do you like online learning?

-It depends on what kind of courses do we have because sometimes I do feel like some courses have more benefits when we study on campus.

For example, if it is a maternity clinic course, we have theoretical knowledge, and when we go to the placement we should know how to exam them, but because of the corona, we did not have practice on dolls or each other and now we go to placements without practice that. Also, it is hard to do both practical training and studying now because I have eight hours of placement per day and it is hard to focus on courses, but in the first and the second years, we finished courses before our practice.

7.) Do you miss your campus lessons?

- Yes and no because there are a lot of courses

For example, if it comes to a child health clinic, there are a lot of checkups that we have to do for children, but now we do not courses on the campus and we cannot really practice them. So when we go to placement we do not have that practice which we should have, we have only theoretical knowledge. We have not practiced with each other as we usually do.

However, if we have courses that are not related to our work, online learning saves time.

8.) How is your work on the thesis going?

supervisors is quite poor because there is a lot of miscommunication and disinformation between them. Usually, they have a good relationship, but when things change, the information that is given to staff is not always the "perfect one", that courses a lot of confusion inside the staff. For example, if the writing system is changed in our place, sometimes the staff does not really know how they should do it in another way, properly due to the information gets slowly to them or even bosses do not understand how to do it themself, something like that.

- Well, I have started working on a thesis last year, but now during this pandemic, it is more difficult.

12.) Do you see the lack of specialists in this field in Finland?

9.) How pandemic affect your training as a nurse?

- Yes, we do need more specialists in this sector.

Some people are interested in it but the payments of our job are not that good as it should be, and maybe this pushes someone away. I believe health nurses could help a lot with developing our society, help to grow a healthy generation.

-Well, we have more responsibility to really learn nurse courses ourselves now, because we do it online from home.

10.) Where you can work if you choose this program?

- Well, I have already mentioned that you will have a lot of options where you can work: in hospitals, occupational health care, maternity clinic, child care clinic, etc. I wanted to work in schools, as a school public health nurse right now. Also, I am interested in running different projects. For example, if some people or organizations come up with some study ideas ( for instance mental illness between teenagers), I can be a part of this project.

11.) During practice, did you notice some problems in nursing work in Finland that need to be fixed?

- I think communication between the staff and the

- I would say, take things slow and be patient, because sometimes you would definitely think about what is not your field. Also, there is a lot of courses, so prioritize, because you cannot give 100% energy to all of them, and think about which courses are more important for your future career and try to sit on your learning schedule.

Basically, you will do reflections all the time during this program ( for example, what kind of nurse do you want to be? etc.) because you have a lot of options where you can work in health care (also social workplace).

TRAVELING

Zelenogradsk resort town and city of cats.

Zelenogradsk is located in the Kaliningrad region.

Until 1946 it was called Cranz (Kranz - in Prussian "steep coast"), one of the popular resorts in Kaliningrad.

- it was taken by a 55-year-old resident, whose duties - feed city cats in a local park.

The history of Zelenogradsk is really interesting, and not at all because of the cats: in its vicinity archaeologists discovered Prussian settlements and defensive ramparts of the early Middle Ages, and a large archaeological complex of Viking times is located three kilometres from the town. Until the end of the 13th century, Prussian fishermen lived here, and then (in 1282) a PrussianGerman settlement arose on the site of modern Zelenogradsk, whose inhabitants served the road leading from Kรถnigsberg to Klaipeda. Until the end of the last century, Zelenogradsk was a federal health resort.

However, in recent years, its popularity is more associated not with the sea and historical monuments, but with its cats. For some time now, this animal, beloved all over the world, has become a symbol of the city. Cats in the city can be found everywhere on the walls of houses, in souvenir shops, in the form of sculptures, there is even a cat's traffic light in the city. And, of course, the city has its own museum "Murrarium" dedicated to these popular animals, a monument to the Zelenograd cats has been erected, there is even a holiday "Birthday of the Zelenograd cat", The water tower built in 1905 is one of the symbols and the position of a cat-chef has been introduced of the city. In Zelenogradsk, cats have always been treated with respect. During the Soviet period of the development of the resort town, where hotels and inns are still the most part, there were canteens, cafes, the ability for cats to access food in landfills, served to further growth.

At the initiative of the residents of the resort town of Zelenogradsk, houses for animals, equipped with warm blankets and feeding troughs, were recently installed. Anyone can bring food for cats, as well admire the play of little kittens. Vending machines were also installed where you can buy food for cats.

I really liked this cozy town, the embankment, the streets, the still warm sea and of course its fluffy inhabitants. Walking around the city, you realize that Zelenogradsk is the real capital of cats, which, like a cat, unceremoniously burst into every corner of the city space!

I strongly advise you to visit this small but purringly cozy city!

EXCHANGE VIEW Cheap Korean snacks to help with studying!

I’m a student and if you’re reading this, you’re most likely also a student and you know what’s common about students in Korea and Finland. They really don’t have time to cook anything because they’re too busy studying. Now what this usually boils down to is just going to a store and getting a sandwich or getting a coffee. What I’m going to list is three different kinds of snacks that I’ve tried in Korea and have actually been very tasty and given me enough time to keep up with the grind that is studying.

Gimbap The reason why I’m listing these from the previous is that although they are essentially the same kind of ingredients, regular Gimbap (김밥) is almost treated as a completely different kind of snack.

Most people that have slight understanding of East Asian culture would think that these are sushi rolls, but unfortunately just like the rice triangles, they put in anything but salmon in these rice rolls.

What you can commonly find from these rolls is pork, chicken, beef bulgogi, egg and mayo tuna.

The problem with acquiring these is that they are ridiculously popular and the company producing these doesn’t seem to run out of combinations.

Ready-to-eat meals

Samgak Gimbap

Finally, there are the pre-packaged meals. I haven’t really counted how many variants of these I’ve seen in the dormitory store, but if I had to estimate there might be at least 20 different flavours and combinations. From what I’ve heard, Korean students rarely cook, the usual reason is that in the dormitory they aren’t provided a kitchen at any point and even in Goshiwons, that are small cheap rent bed rooms, the staff would only provide noodles and other smaller food, so everything has to either be done with a microwave or hot water. The weird thing is that these foods are tasty and relatively filling, but just like always if you want something certain you have to go early to the store because students will gobble these up immediately.

삼각김밥 or Korean Rice Triangle is a very popular variant of a Gimbap (Korean Rice Roll) and if you ever visit Korea, you will find these everywhere.

And it doesn’t really stop at the amount, there is also different types of variants, because inside the rice triangle they usually cram a bunch of meat/ vegetables/spices to make every single version of Samgak Gimpab unique. These rice triangles are not only cheap but they’re almost always in stock, but if you want to eat the most popular ones, you’re And that’s about it, hopefully if you ever decide to going to have to go to stores when they’re being visit Korea, you won’t starve to death now that you restocked which is around 10AM. Luckily there is know what to eat (haha). a self service store in my dormitory building so if I’m not feeling like moving too much, I’ll go to the Written and photos by Joonatan Berg 9

RECIPE

Rice noodles with dairy free cream and chicken

Today’s recipe is unique; it’s coming from France. France is well-known for its high quality and delicious pastries and baking. I’m sure that you have at least once in your life heard of “Croissant” and “French Baguette”.Anyway, this recipe is not one of the healthy recipes that I usually give you, but it’s one of the best. In this cold weather, we all deserve some treats and sweets with a cup of hot chocolate or a coffee or whatever.

Those are the ingredients and how you can make it.

Ingredients: 500ml milk 225g flour Three eggs Three big spoons of sugar Three big spoons of melted butter Pinch of salt Pinch of vanilla

In a bowl, mix the three eggs, the milk, and the sugar using a blender.

Add the pinch of salt and the pinch of vanilla.

Add the flour little by little after sifting it and mix.

Add the melted butter and mix.

Let the mix rest for 10 minutes, and then you can start cooking the crêpes

Tips: Use a flat pan for cooking the crêpe Don’t pour large quantities in the pan.

Let the crêpe cook for one minute on each side.

MOVIE Ensilumi Director: Hamy Rameza Leading cast: Shahab Hosseini, Shabnam Ghorbani, Aran-Shina Keshvari A story of an Iran refugee family that is waiting for the decision whether they can have an official asylum status. The movie was a positive change, it wasn’t stereotypical nor was it in any way racist. You usually go see these kinds of movies and almost anticipate there to be a drunk person who is overly racist and shouting “Go back to where you came from” and I am very happy to tell you guys, that was not the case at all. I was happy to see how accepting people were and how they just lived in harmony with each other.

I read that the movie is based on the director’s own experiences and the male characters are based on the trauma he had to go through and struggles with still this day. The dad drinks too much, and the oldest child worries about the family’s future and of his best friend. The family really wants to settle down, they are tired of running and that shows. But will they get the asylum as they wish?

The movie itself was, from the beginning a little sad, but still hopeful. It touching and funny at times and the acting is good.
