Another Editorial, another apology I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to apologise for this time, but i’m sure it’ll come to me whilst writing. (Please do not doubt my sincerity hence after, I am totally 100% very indeedly sincere in my sincerity.) So I guess it is christmas time, it has unavoidably caught up no matter how much strongly you might be in denial about that. Which brings us to the “most” important part of it all: Did you get all the presents yet? What did you get for your mum, you dad, you grandparents, aunt Debbie twice removed, the family pet? Too depressing to think about how Newton‘s birthday has become the excuse to buy things nobody wants or needs how about you think about all the nice food you’re gonna get

during the holidays - this year however vegan, free from gluten, sugar and lactose, as well as preferably low-fat. Can make cookies out of potatoes? If all of this made feel a bit less excited about the upcoming festivities and life in general: Don’t worry. Apparently Uranus is in retrograde and Gemini in the 7th house. You know what that means. Or not. I don’t but feel free to insert something about “you should re-evaluate your values and priorities” and round it up with something like “you are more than just your personality”. Have a nice week. Sorry.

Practical training in the heart of Europe?

Last week I visited our partner university in Namur together with Heidi Järvi from the international office. Namur is a gorgeous medieval city, built at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse Rivers in southern Belgium. This lively and cozy historic town has an excellent location, only half an hour train ride from Brussels and few hours away from major European capitals like Paris and Amsterdam. Despite the relatively small size of the city, it is surprisingly full of life. We arrived there Wednesday early afternoon and the city was bustling and busy; packed with students, enjoying what Belgium has to offer in terms of beer (there are about 800 different beers and that alone should be an excellent reason to visit there). Not to mention the world-renowned Belgian chocolate, which comes in all different shapes, flavors, sizes and aromas. For what it´s worth, in our experience both Belgian beers and chocolate are worthy of their fame. The University HENALLUX (Haute École de Namur-Liège-Luxembourg) offers mostly courses in French, but they have a vast network of international companies in Belgium and the Netherlands, which use English as their working language. If you are interested in doing your practical training there, all you need is a CV and application letter, in which you indicate what type of job you are interested in and the university will find a suitable training place for you. Christmas Event in The Old Town of Kouvola As I wondering around, I noticed that a lot of people are gathering around a building called the Tube Radio Museum. At that museum, there were people from the church giving speech about the coming Christmas and giving blessing to everyone, not just the people who were there but also all the citizens of Kouvola. After that, they sang Christmas songs together. I was very amazed at the beautiful melody of those songs. All those acticities so new to me since I have never participated in a Christmas event before in my life. There were also many activities happened inside the Quater Museum. For examples, there was an orchestra which took place from 12:30. That was also my first time listening that kind of music. They played guitars, violins, trumpets and arccodion.

Kouvola is not a big city but it has most of the things that a big city has. Kouvola has a Tradition Center called The House of Kouvola, a Museum and an Old Town. Last Sunday, 29 November, the traditional Christmas event is once again held at the Old Town of Kouvola. During the event, the Old Town was turned into some kind of market place where people set up kiosks selling Christmas goods. There were kiosks selling traditional Christmas food such as cheeses, sausages and ginger cookies and there were also kiosks which sold Christmas decoration stuff like hanging angel figures or figures of small elves wearing red hats. They lighted of candles along the street which made the air a bit warmer. Sadly, there was no sigh of snow. If only there had been some snow covering the ground, the atsmosphere could have been much more Christmassy.

The members of the orchestra were all elderly people which gave me the impression of how lively and talented Finnish people are. Not only instumental music but many Finnish songs were performed there by the local choir as well. Even though I could not understand the Finnish lyrics, I was still able to find the cozy and merry feeling through their voices and the smile on their faces. This event was absolutely a wonderful experience of mine in Finland. I am so looking forward for the up-coming Christmas!

6 hours in Stockholm. As we, a group of exchange students, got the offer to visit Stockholm by ferry, we all knew instantly that we wanted to go. So we booked our ferry and the bus to get to Helsinki and left only a few weeks later for our big adventure. This cruise meant for us: two nights on a ferry and 6 hours in Stockholm. The ferry itself is quiet a big ship with several restaurants, two nightclubs, a big Duty Free and even a spa. Our rooms though was really, really small. But what can you expect when booking the second cheapest one. And it wasn‘t to worse: two bunk beds each side of the room, a tiny space in the middle and a bath – everything that you need for only two nights. So spending two nights on that ship is not to bad at all. We arrived in Stockholm at around 10 in the morning with bright sunshine. For sure we arrived at the ferry terminal and not directly in the city centre, but there is a bus offered directly by the ferry company to take you to the city centre and back for only 5€. But if you prefer a cab, or walking thats possible as well. In the city centre we stared to explore the city. We’ve been walking around without really knowing where we needed to go but in the end we found all the major sightseeing spots such as: the nobel museum, the stadshuset, the opera, the castle, the cathedral and last but not least the gondola with a beautiful view. Within the last three hours we got joined by a local student that one of us knows. He showed us around a little bit as well. And he introduced us to the gondola a platform with an beautiful view on hole Stockholm. When your in Stockholm definitely go and check that spot out, its amazing. We were so lucky with the weather it was 9°C and bright, –5–

bright sunshine – for me a jumper totally did it, no jacket needed. But two nights on the ferry and 6 hours in Stockholm, is it worth it? Well yes and no. The hours at the ferry are no problem at all. You either spend your time relaxing in your cabin, in spa, at a restaurant or partying in one of the nightclubs. It gets more complicated when it comes to the 6 hours in Stockholm. 6 hours at first sound quiet a lot, but to be honest its not. We rushed the entire time. There was no real chance for us to sit down and drink a coffee or relax. After the 6 hours we were all totally done, with hurting feed and tiered. But at the same time we were quiet impressed how much we actually managed to see. For the next time that I visit Stockholm I will definitely stay at lear 2 days, but to get a rough impression of

Ingredience:

Chicken INGREDIENTS Marinade ½ cup plain yoghurt full fat 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 tsp tumeric powder 2 tsp garam masala ½ tsp chili powder or cayenne pepper powder 1 tsp ground cumin 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger 2 garlic cloves, crushed 750 g chicken thigh fillets, cut into bite size pieces Curry 1 tbsp vegetable oil or ghee 1 cup tomato passata or puree 1 tbsp sugar 1¼ tsp salt 1 cup cream (full fat or light) OR for a lighter version use ¾ cup light cream + ¼ cup milk (low fat) (I used this) To serve Rice Coriander/cilantro (optional) How to do it: Optional step: for an extra smooth sauce, combine the Marinade ingredients (except the chicken) in a food processor and blend until smooth. Combine the Marinade ingredients with the chicken in a bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight, or up to 24 hours. Heat the vegetable oil over high heat in a large fry pan. Add the chicken coated in the Marinade and cook for around 3 minutes, or until the chicken is white all over (it doesn‘t really brown because of the Marinade). Add the tomato passata, sugar and salt. Turn down to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Do a taste test to see if it needs more salt. Stir through the cream, then remove from heat.

Volume 4: The benefits of sports Before I get to the benefits of daily workouts, how about what happens when you stay inactive? According to a variety of studies inactivity leads to an increased risk for diabetes, breast and colon cancer and ischaemic heart disease. ADELE: 25 Genre: Alternative/Grunge Producer: Kurt Cobain

If there’s ever been a person who needs no introduction featured on the pages of Insider, it’s Adele; her breakthrough album 21 received a truckload of Grammies and the album has become not only the most sold album in Britain in the history of recorded music, but also one of the best-selling albums of all time. There are very few people on this planet who have not heard “Rolling in the Deep” or “Someone Like You”. And afterwards she went and won herself an Oscar too. Whatever she would do next would have absolutely ridiculous expectations to live up.

So, her new album 25, or the newest entry in her album series I like to call “You’re Roughly the Same Age, What Have You Done With Your Life?”, she wouldn’t need to show any sort of effort whatsoever and still outsell anything else this year just with the power traction. The bombastic lead single “Hello” proved that already: while the song made out of all the familiar building blocks that every Adele hit uses, it became the first song in the US to sell over one million digital copies on its first week, just due to being an Adele single.

ven, uplifting counterpart to the dramatic and somber “Hello”, forming beautiful musical bookends. 25 is everything we’ve previously come to expect from Adele: grandiose ballads, larger-than-life emotions and an amazing voice capable of effortlessly conveying those emotions. It’s a nice change of pace to see a mainstream Top 40 artist doing something that seems so natural, genuine and effortless instead of something pumped out straight from assembly line.

After the explosion of “Hello” Adele was at risk that the rest of the album would just become quiet ringing in the listener’s ears. Fortunately she didn’t go the easy route: Adele herself has described the album as a ‘make-up’ album as opposed to her previous break-up record, which is incredibly refreshing. We need more songs like “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”, where instead of undeservedly spewing fire and brimstone on her ex’s new lover Adele says that we’re all adults here and it’s better to move on than just endlessly wallow in self-pity. In addition of the subject matter she has also progressed musically: in contrast to her previous sound based mainly on the soul music of 60s, 25 contains more electronic elements of 80s R&B. “Water Under the Bridge” sounds like a mixture of Culture Club and massive gospel choruses reminiscent of Florence + the Machine. Even though the lion’s share of the album’s runtime is devoted to ballads, none of the tracks feels superfluous: most incredibly Adele can make what feels like three dozen piano ballads stand out from each other in terms of both the music and the lyrics. The final track, the bombastic and waltzing “Sweetest Devotion” works great as a guitar-dri-

I had no idea what kind of movie I was in for. I didn’t know what it was about, what genre it would be, nothing. When I saw that this movie was not just starring Angelina Jolie Pit but was also written and directed by her I was, to say the least, surprised and suddenly my expectations went up. An hour into the movie I still had no idea what was going on and was actually wondering what this movie was about: Depression? A relationship slowly dying? How some boob jobs just don’t look real? In how many different camera angles can you shoot a 5x5m hotel room? Favourite holiday activity of Brangelina?
