Life is Precious

The year certainly got off to a sad start with the passing of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and the seven other passengers lost aboard the helicopter. The outpouring of love for those who perished was remarkable to see and it felt like time had stood still for a few minutes while the news was coming through. The one universal message that seemed to cross everyone minds as they discussed and remembered the lives lost was to never take anything for granted, tell your loved ones that you love them everyday and make peace with those you sometimes don’t get along with. It always seems in tragedy we reflect and through the passing of others we try a little harder to make things right in our life and in others. My wish is that we all do and realize that nothing is forever. Please don’t forget to get out and VOTE if you live in Pembroke Pines. Municipal General Election is on Tuesday, March 17, that of course is St. Patrick’s Day and yours truly Birthday, so VOTE wearing your best GREEN colors and never take for granted your right to vote in the two cities you call home. Have a safe Spring Break with your loved ones and be on the look out for the next issue of Inside Miramar/Pembroke Pines in early April. Sincerely,

Chris Koval President/Publisher Life is Precious PUBLISHER’S INSIGHT Reaching all of Miramar and Print Isn't Dead n the last issue I kind of teased everyone with the pending news that Inside Miramar was going to be mailed to every home and business in Miramar starting with the next issue. Well, the next issue is here and we are now reaching all of Miramar. For the first time, all of the residents in the City will be received an informative, timely, entertaining, and business driven magazine at the same time. m so thrilled that so many of the staple businesses that started with us a year ago continue to advertise in the magazine. We also added 13 new businesses to this issue. The need to advertise and promote your company is alive and well. There is a misconception that print is dead or on it’s last leg and that online is the end all be all for advertising. I say, “not so fast”, print in particular is extremely important because in many cases it becomes the trigger point for you to read, research and react. A reader sees an advertisement or something going on in the City and then follows up by going to that particular company or City website and getting more information and then hopefully becoming a customer or attending various City events. It’s also vital to hear from our key City officials. They will continue to use Inside Miramar as a resource with the intent of bringing you the information you need to know every 45 days.

I t is with great pride that we enter our third year of Publishing Inside Miramar, now Inside Miramar/Pembroke Pines. It is never an easy task getting out the magazine but when it is finally finished it is so rewarding. I hope you take the time to read the magazine because there are so many important things going on in our two wonderful cities plus you can stay caught up with our prominent city officials by reading their articles. This issue is filled with many new local advertisers from Miramar to Pembroke Pines. One thing that I am especially proud of is the expert columns by many successful business owners in the community that love to share their knowledge in their specific field. This issue will feature columns by Robert Davis III as he helps us guide through homeownership as your children prepare to move out. Broker Associate Ralph Viera, PA explains to us why people love moving to the Sunshine State and Sandra Rolon, CPA does a little, “Did you know”, if you are a high income taxpayer. Enjoy the helpful advise from our experts and give them a call if you have any questions. I would like to give a special shout out to Scruby’s BBQ in Pembroke Pines. They are celebrating their 25th Anniversary the week of February 24th with some amazing deals. Stop by and congratulate them and enjoy the delicious BBQ.

Saving for your child's College Education (cont.)

There are several ways to save for college, and the earlier you start, the more time to accumulate funds. One option is the 529 Savings Plan, a tax-advantaged savings account designed to encourage families to save for future college costs. There are two types of plans, college savings plans and prepaid tuition. While the IRS treats them similarly, there are important differences

• College savings plans allow you to save money in an individual investment account. They are sponsored by a state or state agencies and are usually managed by a financial institution.

• Prepaid tuition plans allow you to prepay tuition expenses now, and use these funds to offset a predetermined portion of future educational costs. All investor contributions are pooled, then invested. States sponsor these plans on behalf of public colleges, but do not run these plans for private colleges. In most cases, your choice of school is not tied to the state your 529 plan is from. Research the features and benefits of the plan available to you, and compare it to different state plans. Contribution limits vary by state, and some states offer tax incentives to investors.

Note: Investments inside 529 plans may be subject to

investment risk, including the potential loss of principal. Earnings on nonqualified withdrawals are subject to taxes and a 10% penalty. We will identify other savings options in the next issue. Henoc L. Paulicin Sr.

Florida No. 1 moving destination in America 2 020 will be a great year! 908 People move to Florida everyday. Who loves the sun? More Americans than ever, according to U-Haul. In its latest moving survey, the moving giant said Florida had beaten out Texas as the No. 1 moving destination in America.

The Lone Star State had held the top ranking for at least four years.

He continued: “There’s an expectation of comfort for people moving here. They know there are jobs. Plus, there are tons of attractions, and our state is family-friendly. The weather is perfect, and no matter where you live, you’re less than an hour from the beach.” The news coincides with new Census data showing that as of July 1, 2019, Florida remained the third most populous state, having moved ahead of New York in 2014. The Sunshine State’s population grew by 1.1% over the past year, more than twice the U.S. average and ninth highest among all states plus D.C., according to Indeed. com economist Jed Kolko. Kissimmee, Ocala, West Palm Beach, Port Saint Lucie and the BradentonSarasota corridor led Florida’s gains, U-Haul said. Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale, Pensacola, Miami and St. Petersburg were among the other notable cities to see a net increase of U-Haul trucks. Florida arrivals of one-way U-Haul trucks increased 1%, while departures were down 1% compared to the state’s 2018 numbers. Arrivals accounted for 50.6% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in the state.
