Woodruff Electric Announces 2020 Scholarship Recipients Woodruff Electric CEO, Michael Swan, announced the 2020 recipients of the Glynn and Mildred Carpenter Scholarships. The winners of the five $1,000 scholarships are Brian Casey, a graduate of Forrest City High School, Sarah Rendon, a graduate of Palestine-Wheatley High School, Cara Bowling, a graduate of McCrory High School, Fiona Franks, a graduate of Lee Academy and Harlee Futrell, a graduate of Wynne High School.

Casey plans to attend the College of the Ozarks in the fall to major in accounting. Rendon plans to attend Arkansas State University in the fall to major in nursing. Bowling plans to attend to attend Arkansas State University in the fall to major in graphic design. Franks plans to attend Arkansas State University in the fall to major in biology. Futrell to attend Arkansas State University in the fall to major in nursing.

This is the sixth year that Woodruff Electric has held the scholarship program. The program is in honor of Glynn Carpenter and his wife, Mildred. Both Glynn and Mildred were strong advocates of higher education. Carpenter spent 53 years serving the electric cooperatives with the last 33 of those years he served as CEO of Woodruff Electric.

Capital Credits Distributed Woodruff Electric Cooperative’s President/CEO, Michael L. Swan, is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has approved the refund of 62% of 1986 capital credits and 17.8% of 2019 capital credits. The total amount of the 2020 refund is $1,642,898. This will bring the total retired capital credits for the cooperative to approximately $22.4 million.

Everyone looks forward to receiving this retirement of capital, but not everyone really understands what it represents and why they receive the check. Every member is allocated a proportionate share of the cooperative’s earnings each year. Annually, the board of directors of the cooperative will evaluate the financial condition of the co-op to determine the amount of capital credit allocations to be retired.

Woodruff Electric typically mails capital credit retirement checks to members. This year, members that have an active account will receive a credit on their upcoming electric bill. We believe this will be a more convenient method of disbursement for our membership. Members that do not have an active account will receive a mailed check as we have done in the past. There are many former members who are eligible to receive Capital Credit refunds from prior years, but due to incorrect forwarding mailing addresses these members may not receive refunds. The Cooperative urges everyone who discontinues electric service to leave a forwarding address so their future capital credit refunds can be mailed at the appropriate time.

The Board of Directors and management of Woodruff Electric are proud of the fact that the Cooperative is able to return capital credit payments. Our goal is to make every effort to continue providing safe, reliable electric service at the lowest cost consistent with sound economy and good management. This is an advantage of being a member-owner of Woodruff Electric Cooperative Corporation. We are proud to be your local energy partner!

IMPORTANT NOTICE - 2019 PATRONAGE CAPITAL ASSIGNMENT 2019 was 20.60% of the total amounts (Less sales tax and purchased power) paid for electricity purchased from the cooperative during 2019.

A member desiring to know the specific amount of capital credited to his patronage capital account may obtain this information by making a request to the cooperative.
