Editor’s Note

The idea to expand our luxury lifestyle magazine blossomed at the beginning of the year when we decided to branch out to other underestimated / stereotyped destinations. Las Vegas has always been a huge fascination of mine and I have constantly wondered if there is more than just casinos and nightlife. I am definitely not a gambler and even though I still enjoy a really good night out, my party ‘hard’ days are truly behind me. With this in mind, I was very eager to discover and explore a different side to Sin City, perhaps a side that many were not aware of. I am always up for challenges and soon after the team and I made a decision to expand Inside Ibiza to Vegas, our bags were packed, ten days of itinerary was scheduled full of adventures, just not enough time in the day to take it all in.

It was love at first sight…….. Las Vegas blew me away from the minute we touched down. We went beyond the sterility and explored things even your wildest imagination would be surprised of. The most thrilling experience was certainly the day we visited the Sky Combat Ace depot and flew a plane with a combination of crazy manoeuvres; you can read more about the escapades on page 100. Furthermore, the infamous Strip hosts the world’s best restaurants with a combination of Japanese, Italian, American and French cuisine that will instantly change the way you enjoy meals out. If this wasn’t

enough, Vegas also surprises guests with one of a kind hotel resorts that quite simply are a little town of their own.

Of course, the nightlife and world class entertainment plays an enormous factor in the overall experience and as Eric Trump said during our recent interview: ”Vegas is a world class destination that has perfected every element of the guest’s experience”. In fact you can read the interview from page 44.

At last, Las Vegas is a renowned destination and it continues to push boundaries by delivering world class entertainment, five star resorts, thrilling once in a life time experiences, fine dining and it caters for everyone! With Inside Vegas Luxury Lifestyle Magazine our aim is to discover the hidden gems with a selective range of luxury experiences and we know you will love them.

As I look through the finished issue of Inside Las Vegas, it takes me on a journey through remarkable memories, luxurious indulgences, delicious dining experiences, but most importantly it breaks down the barrier of a casino / gambling destination and it opens a door of possibilities.

After a year since the hotel first opened its doors in the gaming capital of the world, our editors sat down with the mastermind behind this recent develop in the Trump hotel collection, Eric Trump. He is an Executive Vice President, Development and Acquisitions, at The Trump Organisation, and directs all new project acquisition and development throughout the world.

MARIA JORDAN interviews ERIC TRUMP and discusses the new Trump just off the notoriously famous LV strip and finds out how the company continues to push the hospitality boundaries worldwide!

Trump International is a worldwide hotel chain, what made you decide to build a five star hotel in Vegas alongside many other competitors? Vegas today is very different from the Vegas we know 15-20 years ago. Vegas has truly developed into a world-class metropolitan city. If you look at the production value at the moment, it’s very high. You have world class performers, you have the best hotels and the best remedies. If you want to go hiking in the Grand Canyon, you can literally

feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. If you have a convention for your business or if you want to come here and party, it will be fun – Vegas has it all. It caters for all people; I have seen families with children here. It’s like Disney World, they can go on rides, roller coaster or if you are a bachelor – you can go to the pool and party. It also has a very high net worth and we have the best spot on the strip (referring to Trump International). You can look out of your window and look straight down at the stip. When you drive down the strip,

You can build the “nicest hotel in the world but if you don’t have that personal touch it’s not important

ERIC TRUMP

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Interview with Eric Trump we are the build board at the end – it’s truly a great location. We wanted to build a hotel that has a true five star experience, where you don’t go in and hear the ding ding of slot machines. A doorman with white gloves opens the door, the whole experience is white glove. Every need you have is catered to. I was just telling a friend that a year ago, I had a lady staying here and she ordered a bottle of wine. When she came back a couple of months later, the same bottle of wine she previously ordered was already in her room with a note ‘We remember you ordered this last time you were in Vegas and loved the wine, compliments on the house’. You can build the nicest hotel in the world but if you don’t have that personal touch it’s not important. Hotel guests are not a number and you can’t do this in the big hotels. This hotel is very Vegas, it’s gold and bold, very tall and we have that personal touch.

Maria: We love the non-casino feel to the hotel and it makes such a big difference to be welcomed to a real five star hotel on the strip.

Eric: Absolutely, we have sold consistently and we had many successful stories in the city. Maria: Trump International Las Vegas welcomes guests and also sells residential apartments to those who wish to purchase a property on the strip and be part of the Trump family. What is it about the international brand that continues to appeal to potential and current clients?

Eric: Wealthy people all around the world want to own a property at a top location and destination that they can call their own when they visit. We have 16 golf courses some of which have been voted the best in the world, and this is the diversity of our company. We have the largest winery on the East Coast of the United States in Charles, Virginia and this is another diversity in our company. The residential apartments, hotels, golf courses, winery, The Apprentice and Miss Universe adds a really a fun combination and so many people want to be part of this! This is why they choose to stay at one of our hotels or even purchase an apartment.

Vegas is all about the hotels, so who do you think are your biggest competitors? That’s a great question; I don’t think we have too many hotel competitors. We have our gaming licence, but here we decided to do something that doesn’t exist in the market and that’s why we build a white glove service hotel. If we wanted to build a casino hotel, we could have done that. We could have had thousands of gaming tables with slot machines and many gaming restaurants and if we did this, we would have lost our personal touch. We built this building the way we did to fill a void in the Las Vegas market and it has been very successful because of that. I am quite surprised that no one has done it yet.

What would you say are your sales demographics in this hotel? I think if you look at our company across another brand, I think we do really well internationally. I think we are a little bit of a life jacket for these people, meaning they trust who we are. We work with developers we trust and we know that they will deliver on time. For international clients they know that the building will be immaculate, they don’t need to worry about it because they know there won’t be any problems. They have the promise of the company and we have a lot of worldwide international clients that continue to love and support our developments.

Maria: What is the age demographic for your hotels? It spans across the board and again I think we do this very well as a company. One day at our hotels, we have the biggest rappers like Jay Z and parallel to that we have the biggest CEO of the top 100 Forbes companies. We sometimes have a group band that might be really popular right now staying at our hotels, or a Hollywood actor, and that keeps it very diverse. We do a very good job catering to the masses and providing incredible luxuries but also hip enough. You can have hip and luxury and at the same time provide a worldclass service. They are not synonymous.

Maria: Vegas continues to change and how are you planning to adapt to the change in the next 5 – 10 years? Yes, that’s a great question! I think quite frankly by building very stable brands and maintaining our luxury experience because that’s what our clients want. It works very well for us. It’s exciting to see Vegas grow and with this growth it’s great to see many new things popping up. It’s a great advertisement for the destination and it attracts more people coming into the market. I think that benefits us and the more money Vegas makes, the more money we make. It’s very exciting and Vegas has done the right thing. They created the great shows, they developed the convention businesses, and new hotels are being built. It’s not just one facade, there’s so much more. It’s also very different from other gaming destinations in the world and like I said to you before parents are bringing their children here, it’s a different world.

What is your favourite thing to do in Vegas? Well, everything, but first it’s a lot of work as that’s what we mostly do. Vegas will rival any city in the world and that’s coming from a guy in New York. Vegas has the best food in the world and there are so many great options and that’s what I really love about this place.

Pre-Summer Skin Fasting™ Routine by Dr Terry Loong

DO YOU? HAVE SENSITIVE OR IRRITATED SKIN SUFFER FROM OILLY OR DRY SKIN ARE YOU USING SO MANY PRODUCTS THAT YOU ARE UNSURE WHICH ONES ARE ACTUALLY WORKING OR CAUSING IRRITATION? Leading aesthetic doctor and skin specialist, Dr Terry Loong has created a three-week Skin Fasting™ routine that anyone can implement at home. It has been designed to kick-start the skin to promote a better complexion in time for the

summer months, when make up is usually minimal and daylight is often unforgiving. Dr Terry advises Skin Fasting™ at least twice a year, in the spring and autumn, when a skincare regime needs to be modified to reflect the

Dr Terry’s Daily Skin Fasting™ Routine: in season and its effects on the skin. However it can be implemented whenever a person feels it is necessary to kick-start the skin to encourage it to behave and look better.

aloe vera, cucumber extract and botanicals e.g. SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective No moisturisers should be used during the fast. Dr Terry days:

Dr Terry Loong says: “Like spring cleaning the house, it's a good idea to spring clean the skin. Skin Fasting™ is about stripping back and only using minimal skincare products in order to boost your skin’s natural healing and hydrating properties. It does this by reprogramming itself to adapt and self-heal. In the long run you will get much more from your skin!”

“One thing I learned from one of my mentors, Dr Zein Obagi, is if you put normal moisturising cream on your skin, it only soaks into the top layer (epidermis), sending a signal to the dermis below that it has enough moisture, hence the dermis stops producing its natural hydration. This then creates a dry environment. Sebum (oil) also kicks in to take over and suddenly the skin becomes ‘combination’. By starving the skin of excess moisture (via the application of a moisturising cream), the skin’s natural hydrating and repair mechanism kicks in. It will take a few days to adjust, but persistence will pay off.”

Although the routine is suitable for anyone, it is particularly good for those who: For three weeks only three products are allowed: Cleanser (hydrating for dry/sensitive skin types, e.g. SkinCeuticals Gentle Cleanser and exfoliating/oil control for oily skin, e.g. ZO Exfoliating Cleanser) Serum (this would be specifically for each individual and their own skin requirements, but only if necessary) Sunscreen (minimum of SPF25. Or use Oxygenetix Foundation for some coverage as this product is unlike other foundations because it is good for the skin. Dr Terry also recommends Heliocare Silk Gel)

Dr Terry recommends the following serums: Acne prone skin - use serums containing glycolic acid, salicylic acid, retinol or a combination of these ingredients e.g. GloTherapeutic Renew Serum Dry skin - use hydrating serums containing hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and growth factors e.g. Endocare Tensage Serum Sensitive skin - use calming serums containing

Dr Terry advises that the skin will either look/feel oily or dry at the beginning of the routine, a bit like when hair hasn’t been washed for three or four days. However the skin will normalise and this initial stage is important in order to revitalise the skin, allowing it to work without the crutch of a multitude of skin care products. After three weeks a new product can be reintroduced every three days so the skin can be evaluated to see how it is responding to each product (and to clarify what it really needs). This might include anti-ageing products, scrubs, masks; whatever might improve the skin. It should be in an optimum state to respond well to key ingredients and formulations. In addition, products causing any irritation can easily be identified and chucked away.

“Being on Dr Terry’s three week Skin Fasting programme eliminated my spots. My skin was clearer and less sensitive too.” Jessica C. Recovering acne sufferer

Throughout Mizumi, traditional Noh theater masks, embroidered obi sashes, handpainted fans and other iconic Japanese design themes pay homage to tradition, while the bold color motif of crimson with gilded accents strike a distinctly modern tone. “Mizumi,” a popular female name in Japan, speaks to the feminine design elements found throughout the newly renovated space. “Mizumi is the escape from reality and the introduction to a unique fantasy dining. It is truly an indescribable experience that must be joined at least once in a lifetime.” Says Maria Jordan, Editor in Chief of Inside Vegas Luxury Lifestyle Magazine. Apart from the award winning food and deliciously surprising bursts of flavours, Mizumi’s waterfall is the key element of attraction.”

With outposts in New York City, Miami and Los Angeles, STK is a new style Las Vegas steakhouse from The One Group and Executive Chef Stephen Hopcraft. The cool and trendy restaurant / bar with a live DJ set and super downto-earth staff brings fun and entertainment back to the Strip! STK is the kind of place you and your friends go to enjoy deliciously prepared all-American cuisine, sing along to some cheesy pop (we promise you’ll like) and enjoy the rest of the night at a nearby bar or club venue. The venue attracts a younger and cooler crowd both at the restaurant and bar and as romantic as it may seem on Google images, perhaps you should pick a quieter place for your first date, but if you are anything like us – you will enjoy your evening either way! Asides from the hip vibe, the sexy people dancing around the bar and those who clearly enjoy their cocktails a little too much can be seen dancing on sofas and tables, STK delivers an outstanding selection of the finest American cuisine. Their signature dishes include, 2 large tiger prawns served with shrimp rice krispies, sriracha chili sauce, micro cilantro, shrimp bisque and fresh lime, two all wagyu beef patties, special sauce, cheese, house made Japanese pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun – can be “super sized” with black truffles, foie gras or both and our favourite 2.5 oz. of foie gras

served with huckleberry gastrique, foie butter, and waffles, garnished with powdered sugar, micro herbs and a sherry reduction. For a starter, we must make a confession because we order this religiously every time we visit. The lil’ BRGs wagyu with special sauce in sesame seed bun are a little piece of heaven, and to make it more indulgent we recommend adding truffle and foie gras. Another favourite is the beef tartare with soy caramel sauce and thin-sliced radishes, which complement the traditional tartare. For mains, it’s almost illegal not to order a steak and with such an extensive choice you will certainly need a cocktail while you make the decision. For ladies, we suggest the filet and perhaps for male diners bone-in filet will be a good choice, or for the real hungry creatures the cowboy rib steak. If you are breaking the diet you might as well go all the way and order parmesan truffle fries, lobster mac & cheese and creamed spinach as your side dishes. The STK restaurant chain is notoriously famous for their exquisite desserts bursting with unimaginable flavours. Asking us to pick one is just as hard as picking which “Friends” actress / actor we like best. So instead, we present you with the entire desserts selection, the decision lays in your hands. Enjoy!

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Dinning Guide: La Cave

La Cave

THE BEST butler buffet in Vegas and probably the world! All of the elements to make you fall in love with food are hidden away at La Cave. There is no question, we are foodies and we know when something is just too incredibly delicious to walk away from. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant has a cellar, the main dining room and the garden lounge and patio (our favourite) overlooking the

pool, surrounded by blooming flowers and palm trees, heaven! Especially on Sundays, the restaurant serves an all-American cuisine fused with global flavours in small-plate portions designed to share, created by Morton Group’s executive chef, William “Billy” DeMarco. The butler

sit down buffet offers an overwhelming choice of the best American cuisine, one can find in Vegas. Michael Morton opened La Cave Wine and Food Hideaway at the Wynn Las Vegas in 2010 as a venue designed for the exploration of wine, complimented with delectable dishes. “With La Cave, we wanted to develop a place where we could spend time drinking wine and sharing food with friends,” said Michael Morton, who, along with his wife, Jenna, is co-owner of Morton Group. “Plus, it truly is a hideaway. La Cave is a place where guests can escape the action of the Strip and enjoy exceptional cuisine paired with an incredible wine collection.” La Cave offers the best of both worlds, great location, great outside surroundings, extravagant menu choice, over 250 wine selections and most importantly sizzling flavours that you are unlikely to achieve at home or experience anywhere else in the world and that’s a fact!

WE RECOMMEND

We promise the Angus Mini Burgers will be the BEST burgers you have ever had the pleasure of sampling. The mouth-watering flavors from the beef burger run through the caramelized onions and the soft bun just completes the entire portion. Other favourites were the baked potato loaded tater tots with brown gravy, tomato mozzarella flatbread, the chef’s selection ham

egg flatbread, eggs Benedict with chorizo, and if you are still greedy for more, a must try is the Canadian bacon pancakes with berry compote and the corn flake crusted brioche French toast. You will commit a crime if you don’t try any of the unlimited cocktails from Bloody Mary, Caipirinha, Margarita, Mimosa to Mojito and Sangria.

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Dining Guide: Fix LV

FIX LAS VEGAS

FIX LV Editor’s Choice

Our editors take a journey through a variety of senses, explosive combinations of flavours and a mixture of dishes that equally deserve an award for presentation, flavour and mostly that unexpected awe.

From the instant you step into the luxurious and beguiling ambience of the restaurant, you will experience a journey through the senses – leaving you enthusiastic for more. Fix Restaurant located around the beautiful surroundings at the Bellagio is an all-American classic treasure. On arrival you will be stunned by the beautiful decor of Fix, the ceiling - covered with wood that is curved in the form of waves with luxurious but cosy lighting. We began our experience by ordering drinks from an iPad, flicking through all the cocktails in a nice modern touch of comfort. Choosing food was made a walk in the park by our exceedingly knowledgeable waiter. He listened to our desires and went above and beyond to offer the best matches from the menu. First in line was the Wood Grilled Bruschetta. We were stunned with the presentation as the yogurt was presented in the form of perfectly rounded balls in a pot of olive oil with citrus and blackberry jam, simply divine. We then moved onto the Lobster Tacos - as you can imagine, absolutely delicious. By this point, we were convinced that this was no ordinary American style restaurant. The food might be very American but the mixture of flavours and garnishes was something out of this world! As the mains followed, they surely didn’t disappoint. We had the Filet Mignon, medium rare, cooked to

perfection, followed by the Duck and Waffles special which sounds rather peculiar but it was most succulent. As side dishes, we had the cream spinach, crispy fries which hugged from inside and my greatest fascination that night was the Mac & Cheese served as little loaves with truffle oil, prosciutto and four cheeses, lightly compressed together, breaded and fried, served with the cheese dipping sauce – an absolutely mouth watering experience. I would quite simply travel from anywhere in the world to Vegas just to order these again. As desert time approach, we tried to find in within us to squeeze in at least one mouthful of the incredibly popular - and even known as Fix's speciality - Apple Pie Donuts, perfectly fried with sugar sprinkled on them with hidden apple filling. But who were we kidding, it is impossible not to finish something so good! This certainly was the most exquisitely delicious way to end our dinner. Fix is a pioneering restaurant operating with a very specific philosophy, exciting menu choices, fresh ingredients, quirky presentation and extremely talented chefs with knowledgeable, friendly staff. The atmosphere is elegant and luxurious with a sense of cosiness. The food takes you through a journey to food heaven and it’s definitely an experience we will repeat!

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Dinning Guide: Kumi

KUMI Japanese Restaurant We recommend For appetizers you have to try Pop rocking sushi with spicy tuna, crab, salmon, avocado and pop rocks , 007 Octopussy with crab salad, spicy octopus and crispy potatoes. Then swiftly move to Albacore with bincho and mango, Sweet shrimp with amaebi, and Japanese sea ell. Be sure to ask for the chief’s desert specialties and why not try the wasabi ice cream? It’s yum

Bold flavors and experimentation with Japanese savors plus an interesting twist of Korean American cuisine If you think you know Japanese food, think again. Kumi isn’t your typical Japanese restaurant where you know what to expect, we promise you – you will be astonished! The Light Group has once again collaborated with the multi award winning and world renowned chef - Chef Akira Back for the Kumi Japanese Restaurant. Chef Akira Back brings his Korean origins to the table but maintains a cool sense of trend from his Aspen, Colorado upbringing. Throughout his renowned career, Chef Akira Back has been awarded the title of "Rising Star" by Restaurant Hospitality in 2008 and has had the distinct honour of hosting the prestigious James Beard House dinners throughout 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Since opening Yellowtail Restaurant & Lounge, Las Vegas Weekly has named Chef Back “Best Chef in Las Vegas” and he continues to oversee Kumi Japanese Restaurant Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. Fasten your seat belts and get ready to go on a veritable rollercoaster journey through Japan and Korea. The casual ambience at Kumi almost transports you to a traditional Japanese house with natural raw wooden features, hammered steel accents and touches of red lacquer to compliment the dining experience. The vibrant restaurant / bar is a place

where you can easily kick back after a day of shopping and be absolutely mesmerised by the little food treasure you managed to stumble upon. There are dozens of Japanese restaurants in Vegas, especially on the Strip but not many will sparkle your taste buds with the first bite of sushi. The “Pop Rockin” sushi with spicy tuna, crab, salmon, avocado with a secret ingredient of pop rocks gives you such a shock that you will be tweeting, facebooking and instagraming all in one! The “pop pop” surprise inside the sushi literally pops flavours for at least a minute. It is one of the most surreal “try it to believe it” dishes. A great addition to this is the yellowtail scallion with Hamachi and scallion. The next step is determining how adventurous you are going to be. Even though, there is nothing ordinary about the menu, will you settle for a classic Japanese red snapper or be adventurous and go for a Japanese sea eel? A mixology specialist carefully prepares the cocktail menu and the knowledgeable waiters will be able to recommend you the perfect alcoholic or non alcoholic beverage to go with your choice of dishes. Great food makes it a great restaurant!

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Dinning Guide: Hakkasan

# HAKKASAN LV The entrance to Hakkasan features shades of the brand's signature blue. Located on the first level is the main dining area, separated by latticed woodwork known as the "cage," allowing for intimate dining spaces within the main room while still sharing the atmosphere of the entire dining area. The private dining room on the second level overlooks the main room giving guests a birds-eye view of the awe-inspiring immense "cage." The original Hakkasan certainly has the air of a place someone might take you when they were trying to – how to put this politely? – get into your pants. I never understood why; the weird blue lighting interfered with the attractiveness of both food and punters. Perhaps it was because footballers used to eat there, and raise the mood with their pheromones. Hakkasan Mayfair has relatively nice low lights, but C objected to the lacquered black surfaces on the grounds that only evil people gather in such places; they like to see their faces reflect More than a decade after it started wowing London’s big spenders with its classy Cantonese cooking, this Michelin-starred trendsetter

remains a benchmark against which all high-end Chinese restaurants should be judged. The basement’s stylish interior (all dark wood lattice screens and moody lighting) still attracts the kind of beautiful people who might suppress their appetites – though there was little evidence of restraint on our midweek night visit. Plate after plate landed on tables around us, including signature dishes such as silver cod roasted in champagne, and jasmine tea-smoked organic pork ribs. We started with the dim sum platter, a basket of superbly crafted dumplings. The pastry was perfect in give and texture, just elastic enough to encase generous bites of flavour-packed meat and seafood. Sweet and sour Duke of Berkshire pork with pomegranate was equally good, the melting tenderness of top-quality meat turning the clichéd staple into a luxury – Chinese takeaways should weep with shame. Drinks run from cocktails via high-priced wines to specialist teas. The original Hakkasan that spawned a global empire (including a newer branch in Mayfair) retains all its appeal: cool enough to be seen in, yet authentic enough to dash pretension.

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Fizz LV Review

FIZZ LV Champagne cocktail bar

Finally we have a bar dedicated to Champagne cocktails and lavish surroundings to make you feel like a movie star! The all white bar has a sense of glamour and sophistication that attracts a stylish line up of guests who are in the mood for mixing their night out. Fizz is the perfect pre-night out bar where you and your friends can kick back and enjoy superb cocktails. If you want to escape the selfie picture taking and have a classy night out, this is definitely a good spot to visit. The bar opened in fall 2013 with nightlife pioneers Michael Greco and Steven and a collaboration with David Furnish to launch the fashionably and trendy FIZZ Las Vegas Champagne Bar. The 2,750-square-foot lounge stands out between The Colosseum at Caesars Palace and Forum Shops at Caesars. It is almost impossible to walk past and miss the eyecatching all-white entrance with a small peek to the inside. The intimate double story bar offers a selection of small platters and of course being a Champagne bar – an impossible to resist cocktail menu! With Caviar On The Rocks and Thai Lobster Summer Roll as a list of options to nibble on while sipping a bubbly, is definitely a stylish way to start any evening.

“FIZZ Las Vegas, puts the Caesars Palace back on the map as a luxurious place to enjoy enchanting cocktails and soak up the atmosphere. Having visited FIZZ on two occasions, one of which was with Matt Goss at the secretive VIP area, just proves once again that this is a “keep it hush” kind of place with sophistication and beauty all around. It’s a must!” Maria Jordan, Editor-inChief

We recommend Dixie Lily As southern as the Dixie Lily itself, this perfectly blended cocktail mixes fresh blackberries, fresh lemon juice and Republic of Tea Blackberry Sage Tea with some good old fashioned American Whiskey. Basil Hayden's Bourbon is the whiskey of choice for the Dixie Lily and it is finished with just a hint of honey using the bourbon based Wild Turkey American Honey liqueur DELUXE! FIZZ Delux far exceeds average cocktail expectations. Priced at $2,500, this wild twist on a classic French '75 is made with Grand Marnier Quintessence, Hennessy Richard Cognac , fresh lemon juice! Perfection!

You are almost drawn to his energy and hypnotised by his voice,” says Maria Jordan (editor-in-Chief of Inside Publication) as we sat back and caught up with Tijs about our recent trip to Miami during the Ultra Music festival where he played on the main stage and later partied with us on a yacht, it was quite a #TBT flashback. “As always it’s a pleasure to be in the presence of a legend such as Tiesto,” says Maria Jordan. Without further ado, here is the entire conversation between our editor-in-Chief Maria Jordan, travel editor Mary Mendes and the star himself – Tiesto. We didn’t hold back and we hope you enjoy the exclusives!

INSIDE LAS VEGAS

50

Maria: What is so different about this album than the ones you have released in the past? Tiesto: The big different this time is that it’s more of a song written album. Before it was more about producing instrumental tracks whereas now, it’s more about the lyrics and the actual songs. This album expresses who I am right now.

Mary: Would you say this album is your best album yet? Tiesto: It’s very different, all of the elements in the album represent a different stage in my life and this is the work I produced in this period of my life. It’s hard to compare this to the older albums. It’s like having three children and saying this child is the best.

Maria: I can’t relate to that, I don’t have any (children) Tiesto: (Laughs) Me ether, not that I know of.

Maria: How long did it take you to produce this album? Tiesto: We worked on the songs for two and a half years from start from finish. It does take quite a lot of time to produce especially when you are touring. Finding the right vocalist and working with many different people takes time but it all works out in the end.

Maria: What was the inspiration behind one of your new tracks ‘Wasted’ and working with Matthew Koma? Tiesto: I love Matthew Koma, he is an amazing song writer! I wanted to produce an Indie – Rock song with tempo but still sounding EDM (Electronic Dance Music). The song is actually about a couple I know from Sweden and they were about to break up. They don’t get along that well but when they start drinking they usually get really into each other and end up going home together. That’s why the words in the song are “I like us better when we are wasted”.

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Interview with Tiesto

Mary: It’s quite interesting to know that it’s based on a real story. Tiesto: Yes that’s right and the video is actually more like the after – after party. A group of girls going out on a Saturday night and then on the next day they start cooking and chilling by the pool.

Mary: Are you much more fun when you are wasted?

Tiesto: To be honest with you, music is my passion and it’s something I love. R3hab is from my home town and he approached me a couple of months a go to remix his song Samurai and I said yes why don’t we do a swap. Maria: What do you think of the remix he released?

Maria: Ahhh?

Tiesto: Yes I like it but the thing is I don’t like remixes of my own songs.

Tiesto: (Laughs out loud) That’s a

Maria: It’s your baby, isn’t it?!

very good question! I think sometimes I am not and sometimes I am.

Mary: Why sometimes? Tiesto: I can be really fun when I am wasted and do stupid stuff.

Maria: Like what? You can’t tell us that you do stupid stuff and then not tell us what it is. Tiesto: It first starts with hanging out with friends and sharing jokes then swimming in the pool at 6am. It’s hard to think of examples because my life is so crazy. I can be really fun when I am sober too so I don’t need to be wasted to have fun. Wasted is quite a strong word. There’s one thing being tipsy, then drunk then WASTEDDDD. I spend a lot of time in Sweden and people love to drink there.

Mary: R3hab recently released a remix of Wasted and you have also done a remix of Samurai (R3hab’s own song) what is the connection and what continues to motivate you to continue producing, remixing for other Djs?

Tiesto Yes totally, but then again Wasted is the exception because Wasted is different and it’s really cool to have house remix versions of it.

Maria: Thinking about your album what’s the next song you are planning to release? Tiesto: I think it’s going to be “Let’s Go”, everyone seems to really like it. What do you think?

Maria: It’s my personal favourite! Tiesto: There you go, it’s super cool and quite a girly song. It’s such a good “get ready” song before you go to a club.

Maria: Yes, it’s a great build up. Redlights was filmed in Vegas and the video ends at Hakkasan LV. What made you decide to pick Vegas as the location of your video? Tiesto: The lyrics are about going out with the person you just met and no matter what anyone thinks about your relationship – you are just running along the red lights. I spent a lot of time in Stockholm and at night there’s no one on the street. It’s a very big city but when

INSIDE LAS VEGAS

it goes dark, the roads are pretty much empty and all you can see is those Red Flashing Lights. To go back to the video, it’s about two girls who are not happy with their jobs and suddenly they decide to pack up and go somewhere.

Maria: Those are usually the best trips, just hop on the private jet and go anywhere. Tiesto: Yes absolutely, when you are spontaneous you always have the best time. Even just going to the airport and picking a destination and just going for it.

Maria: How do you feel about Hakkasan? Tiesto: It’s the best place in the world! It’s my club and I love the entire set up.

Maria: Would you say it’s your club? The ultimate place to play? Tiesto: Yes I consider it as my club. It’s built for DJs, when I am playing, there are people behind me, tables on the sides, there’s people upstairs, the lighting is amazing, the DJ booth is huge. I think I have a picture, I will show you later. Have you been?

Maria: Yes of course. The first time I went to Hakkasan the energy was simply electrifying and you are almost in disbelief at what is in front of you. It’s about the DJ and music and for a couple of hours you escape the outside. Agree? Tiesto: Wow (pause) That’s very true and it’s a great way to summarise the feeling you get when you are in the club. I might use it.

Maria: Sure, what was your first experience in Vegas? Tiesto: The very first time I went to Vegas was the beginning of 2000 and I played at a really small club at the Hard Rock Hotel called “Baylie”, it holds 300 people but there were probably only 100 people that turned up. Back then it wasn’t so much about EDM, people were more into country and pop but I wanted to go on holiday with my girlfriend back then and see it.

Maria: How was EDC LV, what did you think of it this time around? Wow, it was incredible! I have been DJing and touring for such a long time that there isn’t many things that shock or surprise me anymore but the energy you get at EDC is completely different. People from all around America, come to EDC and you get to party with your fans. Vegas is my second home and of course that’s a plus too.

Maria: Since you fly so much what is the most exciting thing that has happened on your private jet? Tiesto: I love flying on my private jet and the craziest thing that ever happened was with the guys from Swedish House Mafia flying from England to Ibiza. We got so drunk, spraying champagne everywhere even on the pilot and smoking. This was definitely the craziest flight I ever had, we are really good friends and I will always remember it.

Maria: Were you “wasted”? Tiesto: (Laughed) Yes, absolutely WASTED!

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Matt Goss Review

MATT GOSS

The British man that put Vegas into a standstill MATT GOSS IS AN ENGLISH SINGER-SONGWRITER AND MUSICIAN, CURRENTLY BASED IN LOS ANGELES. HE WAS THE LEAD SINGER OF 1980S POP GROUP BROS, WHICH ALSO FEATURED HIS TWIN BROTHER, LUKE AS DRUMMER, AND CRAIG LOGAN AS BASS PLAYER. HE IS CURRENTLY APPEARING AT CAESARS PALACE IN LAS VEGAS. WE RECENTLY PAID A VISIT TO HIS EVER SO POPULAR SHOW IN VEGAS TO DISCOVER THE MAGIC EVERYONE HAS BEEN TALKING ABOUT! Do you remember the last time music made you feel so good? The last time you watched a performance and all your worries, troubles and thoughts suddenly disappeared with the first flash on the stage, the first drum roll, the first note?

just like the rest of us. There was not a dry eye at the Gossy room when he sang, one of our favourite songs from the new album “The day we met”. The song is about letting go off the person you loved and moving on. I am sure, we can all relate.

Matt Goss is a living definition of the Vegas strip performances; quite frankly there is no one who puts so much character, energy and soulfulness into their performance than the British man himself!

Have you ever been to a show where you are eagerly waiting to follow a journey of music, kick your shoes off to dance and fall in love with the music until you reach the peak climax? Well, this show it’s pretty much like this from the very beginning to the very last note and we are not kidding! Matt’s entire performance takes its guests on a journey and for those two hours, your only worry is remembering the words and singing in tune.

No wonder Caesar’s have dedicated a special performance room for Matt to showcase his performances every weekend. He has certainly earned the title and now deserves the glory! The Gossy room welcomes fans, hotel guests every Friday and Saturday night to enjoy a two-hour live performance with Matt, his band and “The Dirty Virgins” dancers. The packed show has the glitz and glamour of Vegas but with no doubt Matt has put his own vintage swing to it too. With the launch of his US album, Matt shared some of his favourites from the album and not disappointing the Bros fans in the house, he threw in some old classics too – “When will I be famous” with a beautiful swing version. What makes a performer real is when they add their emotions and feelings into a performance and Matt is undoubtedly a sensitive human being

“Matt Goss is an all time favourite for the new and not so young generation. He brings a much needed class back to the strip and he is truly an icon who has stepped out of his shelf and relaunched himself as an award winning performer and song writer. Bravo” Maria Jordan, Editor-inChief With no doubt in sight, Matt Goss at the Gossy Room at Caesar’s palace in the hottest ticket on the Vegas strip and you will be CRAZY to miss it!

he

reveals all. Fall in love with him all over again and make sure those tissues are close by (you will need them)! I would like to say this before we start things off I might be on the phone 20 seconds before I go on stage, there’s no preparation for me. I just know in my heart that the people outside know my soul intention, they bought a new pair of shoes, new perfume, new dress, new suit…I am their night out. I have a complete focus and agenda to take people out of their reality. Last week I had a lady who was crying in my arms because her husband passed away and he wanted my song “Goodbye” played at his funeral. That transcends performances; it transcends music, lyrics and fame. It becomes deeply personal and then there are those that are there to have fun. As you saw when you came to the performance, my boys and me give it our all. After the show my ribs literally hurt because of the high notes I hit during the two hour show. It’s very edgy and musical, which I think, surprises a lot of people.

Tatyana: Your album has a mixture of emotions and it has the love factor, the getting over someone or something. What made you decide to take this personal approach? It’s like a personal memoir and a journey. The Gossy album was super personal and it was like a diary. I wanted to write less words but say more. This album has a simpler approach to the lyrical record. I wanted it to be an album that represents love, healing, power and strength. My favourite song is Mustang, the line –“Have you ever seen a mustang inside a fence”. The Mustang is a wild horse that runs across the plains of America and in my mind when I wrote this song, I imagined this beautiful, free horse running across the plains of America. When you have this image in your head, you imagine the horse running into freedom. When I wrote it, I imagined that the horse ran back to the stable.

Tatyana: Was that you?

Matt: Yes, it was the woman that I wanted to run back to me. If you truly love someone and they love you too, they will run back to you, because if you love someone, I personally think that the biggest mistake you can do is to try and dull their light. When I perform on stage, I want her to think “I am going to make love to that man after his show because he loves me”. They will give me a wink or smile and that’s what I want in my life, I woman that can handle me. Tatyana: What emotions bought the lyrics of ‘I do’? Matt: Why does a man go down on his knees? I starting thinking to myself, has anyone ever addressed why men go down on one knee? I didn’t research it but I felt in my heart that eventually when my knees buckle, they can’t sustain my own weight and I become submissive to the woman I love – my Queen. I say “Will you marry me?” I think that’s why we go down on one knee. I had a few people propose on stage to ‘I do’ and it’s a very humbling experience to know that you are part of someone’s history. I had a gay couple, two women proposed to each other and then I realised that love is inclusive. I am a straight man and I truly want to have a wife that I love and wake up to every morning and say this is my wife and for her to introduce me as her husband. I made a very slight change to the lyrics “ I am just a guy with very big dreams” and I made it an inclusive love song for everyone to be able to feel their knees buckle as they propose. I have to thank Capitol and Virgin Records for allowing this to happen. Bramfair actually said that I contributed to the American song book. It’s one of the most proudest songs I have written and sometimes when I hear it, it’s surreal. I am very proud of and there isn’t a lyric or piano note that I am not proud of.

INSIDE LAS VEGAS Interview with Matt Goss

Tatyana: It seems like it comes from the heart? Matt: Absolutely, iTunes just tweeted it and they said something like “It is the quintessential bridal song.” It’s a huge honour for me.

Tatyana: I wouldn’t expect anything less Matt it is a great song.

Matt: Thank you, you like ‘I do’. It’s a great song and I am very proud of it. Maria: How have your fans received the US album so far? We have had a great response, I have been asked to do a residency in Los Angeles and work with other great producers. One of my fans tweeted me to say that he has the album on repeat and it makes him feel like he is in a movie.

Maria: The album is an unfolding story and when it finishes, you wanted more. The time spent listening to it flies by and it almost finishes too soon. Especially with one of my favourite songs “The way we met” has such raw emotion that you want to know how the story ends.

Matt: I have to say something about “The way we met”. I have seen grown men, twice as big as me with tears rolling down their face at my show. It has an optimistic ending and you can see them wiping their tears away. I wrote the album from a man’s perspective and they understand the words in every song, especially with ‘The way we met’. Maria: What are your plans for the show in Vegas and are you looking to expand? I recently extended my show, I am a Caesar’s boy. I think I am still the youngest man in history to headline at Wembley stadium in front of seventy thousand people and I played 15 consecutive nights at Wembley Arena and of course the Royal Albert Hall, but I have never learnt as much as I have at Caesars. I am a very simple London boy, born at Lewisham hospital – they even renamed the Gossy Room after me. It will be really nice for the Brits to realise that I am extremely proud to be from Britain and I represent England as much as I can.

Tatyana: You are no stranger to Vegas and one of the songs from the album is ‘My lovely Las Vegas’ and

we think it really expresses your love for Sin City. What is it about Vegas that you love so much? Matt: First of all, I don’t buy into ‘What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas’. ‘My lovely Las Vegas’ has been played at least twice every single day by TV and radio shows out here (Vegas). It has taken on a life of it’s own and in some way it shows people in this town. I think it is a lovely Las Vegas because of the fine dining and world class performances. People think it’s just about getting crazy and it’s quite a profound place with the mountains and the variety of things you can do. You must visit Larry Ruvo, he created one of the most technology advanced brain centres in the world. He built this in Vegas and it’s a truly remarkable building. I believe with every fibre of my being that the Larry Ruvo Brain Centre should be a protected building in America. It should be a recognised and registered building and it should never be touched. It’s an incredible show of guts and courage. It represents a distortion of the mind and you have to see it. Apart from the Larry Ruvo Brain Centre, what else do you enjoy doing in Vegas? My favourite place to dine is Rao’s, for drinks I would go to Fizz and I have my own booth. These are the kind of places I like to hang out and of course Nobu.

Tatyana: If you could describe your mood right now with one of your songs from the new album ‘Life you imagine’, which song would you pick? Matt: I guess, ‘Face my fears’, I had my heart broken recently and I am someone who wants to believe everything I hear. I want to be trusted because I have sold millions of records and broken records and despite everything, I am still around. During the last 25 years, I have sung at the Royal Albert Hall, at the White House, on a 600 million dollar yacht at St Barbs and I have done this by facing my fears and pushing myself beyond my limits. It’s disappointing that some Brits still see me as the Matt from Bros, that was twenty years ago and my life has grown a lot bigger since then.

Interview by Maria and Tatyana Jordan

Matt performed at Royal Albert Hall in 2013. He considers this to be one of his biggest achievements to date.
