We all have a basic set of needs - as described by Abraham Maslow an American psychologist - to have food and clothing, to feel safe, have love, self-esteem and a sense of belonging The most basic of all these is to have food when hungry and water when thirsty - only then can people think about meeting the other needs in their lives

The 1996 World Food summit described food security as people having, at all times, access and be able to afford enough nutritious food of their choosing - to lead an active and healthy life Our mission at the Broadwater Support Group and Community Hub is to directly help the local residents who suffer from food insecurity; we know it’s a challenging time for everyone at the moment and that sometimes the essentials in life like food, can take a back seat when you’re struggling financially with ever increasing household and food bills We offer a free membership to our Pantry which gives you a weekly shop of 10 items for £5 which you choose yourself - different from a Food Bank which is there to provide emergency food support If you think you may benefit from the security of a Food Pantry, please come and visit our Pantry at 32 South Farm Road, Worthing Additionally, we are able to offer a Pet Pantry to help pet owners finding it hard to pay for pet food during these difficult times; we know some owners would rather go without eating themselves The Hub not only provides a Food and Pet Pantry; it is also a Community Space where you are welcome to just come and visit, have a cup of tea, borrow a book/attend a workshop and/or just come for a chat with our amazing group of volunteers

My first duty must be to apologise for postponing the Dick Smith quiz arranged for July 1st We were forced to change the date due to the lack of support so I hope that the new date of Saturday September 9th will be more successful If you fancy the entertainment of a quiz, even forming a team with friends, come along to the Parish Rooms and enjoy a fish/chicken and chip supper for £12 a head, please phone me on 07812 931882

My wife Liz and I have replanted the boat with, hopefully, a splash of colour I must say I really appreciate the water supply from our local Cricketers pub, although keeping up the regular watering is a difficult chore to manage with life’s other demands, so if anyone feels that they could volunteer to help I would appreciate it (see the mobile number above)

If anyone wants to use the Broadwater Notice Board opposite the Post Office, please contact Debbie - one of our Vice Chairs – on mobile No 07528 594589

Talking of our Post Office, can I take this opportunity to thank our Post Mistress Janet She is handing over the responsibility for running this essential service and going into partial retirement So, on behalf of us all in Broadwater I thank her and her wonderful team for running a friendly and absolutely indispensable service, reliably and efficiently for as long as I can remember Good luck to the new Post Mistress

How many tickles does it take to make an octopus laugh?
