Worthing Regatta

Worthing Regatta is being held between 11:00am – 5:00pm on Saturday 5th August, along Splashpoint, east of the pier� Many clubs from all along the South coast bring over 50 boats to Worthing to compete in over 20 races throughout the day� Food and drink is available from Worthing Rowing Club, so come and join us, have a day on the beach and watch the racing� Cheer for Worthing Rowing Club crews when you see us!

Worthing Spanish Conversation Club

The Club meets at the Broadwater Parish Centre, 117 Broadwater Road, Worthing, every Saturday at 11:00am for an hour to chat, for people to practice speaking Spanish in a friendly group� The abilities of speakers is wide ranging and less experienced speakers are very welcome� There are no lessons and no homework!

Alter Egos Tour

Saturday 5th August at 11:00 am, meet by the chapels, South Farm Road

At Broadwater & Worthing Cemetery, there are quite a few names amongst the thousands of headstones that are shared with famous people� Our August tour focuses on this theme� We will share details about the life of a person buried in the cemetery and accompany it with a cameo of the celebrity with the same name�

Come and find out about the life of Mary Berry who, alongside her husband, ran a lodging house in Cobden Road, and Mary Berry the celebrated TV presenter of The Great British Bake Off� Learn about Jane Austen, whose gravestone is in the form of an open book (appropriate considering her counterpart, the famous author), and John Noakes, a baker, who married three times – his third wife being some 44 years younger than him – who shares his name with the late Blue Peter presenter� Also featured are The Adams Family, Florence Nightingale, and Henry Cooper� Other names may well have been spotted, we know there is a Peter Kay amongst them, but not all have enough of a story to be included in our tour booklet�

SleepOut for Homelessness –

Could you give up your bed for one night to help raise funds for those that don’t have one?

The Turning Tides SleepOut has become a highlight of West Sussex’s fundraising calendar in the last few years� Organised by the local homelessness charity, the event challenges you to swap your bed for a sleeping bag for one night�

Although the challenge cannot replicate what people sleeping rough face every day, the SleepOut aims to raise awareness of homelessness in your community� As well as raise vital funds for Turning Tides’ awardwinning services�

And for Sleepout 2023 there’s a brand-new venue –Worthing Fire Station!

Whether it’s just you, a group of friends, club, or company colleagues, you are invited to join the Turning Tides SleepOut this year� Sign up today for a sleep powerful enough to change the course of a homeless person’s life� Franc became homeless after financial problems, health issues and a rogue landlord all came to a head� After sleeping rough for many months, Franc was introduced to Turning Tides who supported him on his pathway out of homelessness� Franc said: “Turning Tides was my lifeline� They didn’t just give me a roof over my head; they helped me to rebuild myself, my dignity, and my life�”
