Areas of specialisation Accounting Decision Sciences Entrepreneurship Finance Marketing Organisational Behaviour Strategy Technology and Operations Management

Our choices of specialisation cover the whole breadth of business – and the entire business school curriculum: Accounting, Decision Sciences, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, Organisational Behaviour, Strategy and Technology and Operations Management. During the first two years of the programme there are also core courses common to all areas, giving you insights from other disciplines and confidence for your future career.

We also offer the opportunity to broaden and deepen your expertise by taking extra courses. Depending on your choice, you can receive additional certification in the following Disciplinary Tracks: Management Science, Organisation Science, Microeconomics, or Psychology and Behavioural Science. Choosing one (or more) of these tracks expands your job market opportunities or options later on in your career.

When you join the INSEAD PhD in Management, you become part of an extraordinary global community. As one of the leading and largest graduate business schools, INSEAD brings together people, cultures and ideas from around the world to change lives and transform organisations. We are the only top business school to have three campuses in different regions: Europe (Fontainebleau, France), Asia (Singapore) and Middle East (Abu Dhabi). Each is home to an international family of students, executive education participants and pre-eminent faculty. Our strategic alliances with high achieving business schools and worldwide alumni network complete the global environment that is INSEAD. Our unparalleled diversity represents a powerful asset for your PhD studies.

PhD in Management

The only two-continent programme

Yet, also the most intimate

The INSEAD PhD in Management is the only such programme to run seamlessly across two equal-status campuses on two continents in France and Singapore. Our exchange programme with the Wharton School (USA) gives you the option of studying in a third region, while our Abu Dhabi campus adds a fourth potential perspective.

INSEAD may be a large and prestigious postgraduate business school, but the PhD Programme remains small and intimate. With an intake of fewer than 20 a year, across our two sites, the student body is close and supportive. Everyone knows everyone else, regardless of specialist subject or choice of location. Partners and children are encouraged on campus too, so there is a definite family feel.

Images pending The most diverse in the world

With close faculty relationships

INSEAD’s student body is so culturally diverse that you feel as if you’re studying on five continents, rather than two. A typical intake has almost as many nationalities as participants, each bringing a different perspective to the debating table. We are also proud of our gender diversity – currently close to 50–50. And our faculty is one of the most international at any top business school.

INSEAD professors are world experts in their fields, yet their strong ethos of support, collaboration and mentorship for PhD students is distinctive. Whether in the first two years of structured classes, or the subsequent period of independent research, the insights and guidance of our world-class teachers and researchers are always available to you.

Bringing together the brightest minds to collaborate and discover Research is at the heart of an INSEAD PhD. During the first two years of taught courses, we provide not just essential knowledge but the investigative and analytical techniques on which to build a successful academic career. The second phase of the programme takes the form of a ‘research apprenticeship’: working with world-class faculty to make – and possibly publish – original discoveries. We will make sure you have all the training you need to turn your research into compelling classroom presentations and real-world impact.

PhD Fellowships are available for five years of study, renewed annually (for a full twelve months) dependent on satisfactory progress. Candidates are encouraged to seek external financial support where available, and will receive complementary INSEAD Fellowship funding. Expansion to Singapore

Over three decades of phenomenal success, INSEAD’s doctoral programme is clearly one of the wisest investments that the school has ever made. Our doctoral programme is still small and high achieving, unique in its two-campus structure, with over 221 graduates who have successfully made their mark, as business professors at the world’s most respected institutions, holding increasingly senior posts with every passing year.

2019 30 years of PhD success — 221 PhD Alumni worldwide The programme has evolved alongside INSEAD itself but remains a powerful testament to our founding belief that true academic excellence is achieved through diversity of thought and cultural perspectives. We are particularly proud of the fact that our current students reflect INSEAD’s strategic commitments to achieving greater gender balance and carrying out research that helps to make business a force for good.

“I joined the programme wanting to do math and solve interesting problems, but left with a truly entrepreneurial thought process and driven attitude to make a larger impact. INSEAD’s world view and intellectual scholarship allowed me to become the researcher and professor that I am today.”

Asia Campus

Europe Campus

Our Asia Campus, based in Singapore, was established as an extension of our longstanding presence in Asia. It is situated close to Singapore’s bustling city centre and financial district, and benefits from the area’s warm climate and culturally rich environment.

Our original campus is based in Europe. There, we are nestled in the tranquil forest of Fontainebleau, which offers a pleasant contrast to the sleek, modernist architecture of the campus. The proximity to local French culture keeps us close to our roots.

Middle East Campus Our Middle East Campus, based in Abu Dhabi, is INSEAD’s latest evolution. The campus is located in Al Khatem Tower on Al Maryah Island, right on the midpoint between the city’s downtown district, fast-growing Al Reem Island and thriving cultural district on Saadiyat Island.
