SPOTLIGHT

Mike Marino Making a Difference inPueblo

I’m always impressed and proud at the amazing people making a difference right here in Pueblo. I have the privilege this issue of introducing you to a family friend. I’ve watched Mike grow into an incredible young man who is reaching thousands of youth with his message! I hope that you and your school age children take the opportunity to get to know him and hear this young man speak. – Amy Gasperetti, owner/ editor of InPueblo Magazine Pueblo’s own Mike Marino has a new title: America’s Youth Speaker. Mike started out speaking and inspiring peers with his story here in Pueblo. It wasn’t long before he was asked to speak to youth across Colorado and now? All over the United States! What is it about this 21 year old from Pueblo that people are so eager to hear? RAW TRUTH. It doesn’t have to be eloquent and it isn’t pretty but people, especially our youth, and hungry for it! Tired of advice from people who can’t relate, don’t understand their struggles and won’t come out and share the hard stuff, the youth are listening to Mike. His approach is real and refreshing. “I don’t stand in front of people and just pretend to know what they’re going through. I start talking and they KNOW I’ve been there.” Mike says he can feel the atmosphere change when he speaks, walls come down and people in the audience begin to connect. “I don’t skirt around the real issues America’s youth are faced with today, I face it head on. I think it shocks some people at first but they know quickly I’m not just here blowing smoke.” Mike knows what it’s like to face the pressures of being a teen and college student today. He doesn’t hide the fact that he’s had personal challenges with depression, suicide, rebellion, drugs and has faced plenty of tragedies in his 21 years. He doesn’t hide it because being real is what reaches others who are facing it. His goal is to first connect with the people in the room who are struggling and then give them hope. His website and facebook page shows plenty of proof and I encourage you to connect with him as well. Mike has his first book coming out this month! College Survival Book will be available and this inspiring young man will be speaking at CSU-Pueblo with the book release. He will be speaking on teen suicide and more. For dates and more information go to www.AmericasYouthSpeaker.com or watch our website for announcements at inpueblo.com. You can also follow Mike Marino on Facebook or on twitter @Mike_Marino1 Quote from student: “MIKE!!! I had an unstoppable and sudden desire to sincerely thank you for how uplifting and positive you are everyday. Showing up for yourself and being the change on the daily! You are incredibly inspiring and to be frank, I never thought when first meeting you that you would produce so much positive feedback for the universe. So thanks for the inspiration.”
