Climate is undoubtedly the link that connects the Riviera and the Cote d’ Azur. The Riviera and the Cote both enjoy an enviable all year round climate which reaches its climax during the winter. Englishmen, European royal families, aristocrats and all the members of the European great fortunes have elected these areas in time as their preferred location for spending the cold winters. The tourist season, particularly appreciated for its mild climate, went from November to May. Great artists such as Monet, Picasso, Chagall were so struck by the colours of this land to feel the need to capture these instants in their works. Time has passed and the land’s features have enriched and improved their offerings, for example, accessibility to the territory through airports and motorways, historical sites of tourist interest and by increasing the offer of events and exhibitions able to satisfy any interest. Proximity with the Alps allows easy reach to the winter tourist resorts such as the Riserva Bianca where a day can be spent on the skiing runs or just sunbathing on the snow. At the core of this success there is surely the land with its healthy sea air, the mild climate, the blue sky, the beautiful weather with 260 sunny days with about 12 hours of sunlight, with peaks of 300 days of sun. Often the clouds in the sky just seem strokes by the great artists. A simple link on the internet is enough to prove all of this thanks to the web-cams which allow being virtually on the beach by a simple click of one’s mouse. Certainly, to the climate, one must also add the typical products of the land, key elements of the Mediterranean diet, which has always been praised for its benefits, from 2010 natural World’s Heritage because of the improvements given to life. Never as in the middle of winter does the territory awake with events and exhibitions of great interest which we have tried to offer you at their best. Month after month, the digital magazine updated with all the new elements and the web live news may be found on our website www. sanremo.it. Among all the possible events we can’t not suggest Sanremo’s piece de resistance: the next 63rd edition of the Festival della Canzone Italiana (the Festival of Italian Songs), live on RAI1, from 12th to 16th February 2013. The Riviera and the Cote d’Azur are ready to welcome you for the next festivities , in the new year for a different and warm winter. Merry Christmas and a Happy New 2013.

“Crown your dream with Miss Italia”. This is the slogan of the Show Time Entertainment Moda e Spettacolo, the fashion and entertainment agency of Fortunato Scordo who has had the difficult task of selecting the most glamorous girls of Liguria for the last ten years with the prospect of taking them to the finals of the yearly contest scheduled for September. A purpose achieved many times thanks to the experience and ability of all his staff. “This marvellous adventure at Miss Italia’s side began in 2003 – Scordo tells us, responsible for the contest in Liguria, with hundreds of castings and selections which thousands of girls took part in, all carefully chosen. “We have always had great results. On 5 occasions we reached the national finals of the contest, in Salsomaggiore at first, then in Montecatini Terme. Twice national finalist in Salsomaggiore was Simona Tornaghi of Ventimiglia, and then the winner of the title of Miss Liguria 2009, Stefania Avellino of San Remo. Last year Miriam Protino of Vallecrosia reached Montecatini Terme. And this year Miss Liguria speaks the San Remo dialect. Once again the west side of Liguria is the setting of the ascent of a “Queen” of beauty who was a protagonist of the finals of the national contest in Montecatini. Cecilia Anfossi, 18 years old, first-year student at the Linguistic School, began dreaming in June after winning the first selection carried out at the Kursaal Club in Bordighera. The dream becomes (nearly) true on 18th August in Rapallo. Cecilia is crowned, after a hard fought and animated selection, the prettiest of Liguria and she has the task of representing our region on the “staircase” of the national finals. Blonde, light-coloured eyes, a delicate and angelic beauty. Thus begins the fairy tale in the spa city of Tuscany. Cecilia is the no make-up type, fresh and sporty, full of life. She tells us of her experience with a melancholic nostalgia mixed with the joy of having reached such a marvellous goal. “It was a beautiful experience – she says – certainly tiring. I was 20 days away from home. Each day full of castings, shootings, singing and dancing rehearsals. Frenetic rhythms. I’m shy by nature, but I made friends with my room-mates with whom I still keep in touch. I have pleasant memories of those days. There was nothing negative except the toughness of the rehearsals, but that’s ok. Future plans? “I have received proposals for castings in Milan in the world of fashion. At the moment I’m doing a few evenings at clubs. Regarding Miss Italia I must, by contract, skip a couple of years, but then I’ll be ready to try again. I will have accumulated further experience and preparation”. Cecilia, when grown-up, wishes to continue to work in the fashion world and she is also a sportswoman: “I have been playing in the Riviera Volley Team of Sanremo for 10 years”. Notwithstanding this victory, she has her head screwed on. “I know it is difficult to enter show biz. I shall continue to study and after having taken my degree I will handle both work and show business”. Mirian Protino is the astonishing ex Miss Liguria who has passed the sceptre to her “colleague” of Sanremo. Certainly everybody remembers her for her sensual and typically Mediterranean beauty. She lives in Vallecrosia and her passion is riding. This year she was the assistant and the presenter of events in Liguria: a professional stooge for Scordo during every summer evening of the selections. She does not dismiss the hypothesis of returning under the limelight and in front of the contest jury, competing and putting herself to the test do not scare her. “I’m happy to continue following Miss Italia’s circus – explains Miriam Protino, Miss Liguria 2011 – I have made so many friends and the experience in Montecatini gave me a unique and magic experience. I think I will try again in a few years. Now I will finish studying then we’ll see.”

Body painting had its maximum circulation in the 90s, The sponsoring association is ANDOS ( associazione nazionale donne operate al seno di tumore – Association of Women Operated for Breast Cancer ), present in our country with 58 offices, it is the landmark for all women affected by breast cancer. ANDOS headquarters are in Milan, Via Peschiera, 1 – the president is Dr Flori Degrassi. The images of the twelve months of the calendar have been achieved with the help of the girls from Miss Italia Liguria 2012. The nails by Iris of Diano Marina and the Foto Perino of Imperia study with its shootings will allow us to appreciate the creation of the artist all year round. The aim of Roberta Piacente and Iris Biffi is to support prevention and early diagnosis, uniting art to a publicity campaign especially targeting young girls for regular check-ups particularly with mammographies.
