In July, national tech training nonprofit Per Scholas announced its expansion to Houston, joining Ion District. Through an innovation relationship with Ion, Per Scholas Houston offers its tuition-free technology skills training from its newest campus located at the Ion. In addition to Ion selecting and investing in Per Scholas as the District’s workforce development partner, Per Scholas Houston has received generous support from BlackRock and Comcast NBCUniversal.

The initial class offering for IT professionals garnered substantial interest, with over 1,400 applications submitted and only 20 seats available. The cohort began training in November 2023, with graduation planned for the end of February 2024. Upon graduation, this program will place its graduates into job opportunities that align with their skills, reinforcing skills learned in the classroom and offering a soft launch of their new career trajectories
