My name is Jonel Romero Javinal, and I am the owner/artist of One Off Tattoo, located in San Diego, California, with over a decade of tattooing experience. I was born and raised in Japan and moved to the states in the early 2000s, where I started my young adult life as an artist.

How did you come up with the name of your shop? I came up with the name ONE OFF TATTOO to highlight that I highly value uniqueness. Every person is unique, just like every design is. With that being said, each of my custom designs is specifically tailored for my clients as one-ofa-kind masterpieces.

How did you come up with your logo? My logo is my art piece of a Daruma. A Daruma doll is a traditional Japanese good luck charm for wishing or goal setting. You first make a wish and fill in one eye, placing it in a visible spot to manifest on achieving that goal or wish. Once it’s met, the other eye is filled, completing the story. However, in my logo, the other eye will never be filled since my goal is forever ongoing as a constant reminder to always improve.

What would you say is your favorite part of the job? For sure, the people that I meet and the designs I create. I love getting to know people. Hearing stories and creating a bond. By doing so, each design has strong meanings and connections. The overall tattooing process is exciting. From the idea to a sketch, then finally, reality.
