2014 DCUC Conference & Showcase August 24-27, 2014

DCUC Showcase with a Purpose UCLA’s Operation Mend, which was established in 2007, is the Intrepid Relief Fund’s principal project. This unique and essential initiative provides returning service members with some of the country’s best plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as comprehensive medical and mental health support for the wounded and their families. This care is provided at no cost by leading plastic surgeons at UCLA, while the Operation Mend Fund underwrites soldiers’ transportation and lodging costs. When the program began, a team of UCLA’s finest plastic and reconstructive surgeons was assembled to work alongside their military counterparts, primarily to repair the facial wounds of military personnel critically injured in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. As the conflicts escalated, the scope of injuries sustained presented new challenges, and Operation Mend proactively evolved to best serve the widespread needs of wounded warriors and their families. The goal is to treat every patient with honor, compassion, and exceptional care!

Each year, there’s always a feel-good component to the DCUC Showcase. From the music, the people, the conversations, our generous corporate partners, and the unexpected, everyone enjoys the charitable nature of the Showcase, as much as the experience itself. When the ribbon is cut at the Grand Opening of the Showcase, you will be treated to a special lunch, some upbeat entertainment, and an opportunity to extend your conference networking with our corporate partners, peers and colleagues. Join us this year at the Omni Dallas Hotel as we support Operation Mend. Here are just a few of the opportunities to help: 1. Donate an item from your credit union to the Showcase Silent Auction. Last year, Eileen Ehrsam from PenAir FCU donated a fabulous hand-made Stars and Stripes quilt that raised over $1,000. 2. Purchase mulligans during the 21st Annual VADM Vincent Lascara Golf Tournament at the Cowboys Golf Club! 3. Buy Raffle tickets for the very popular 50/50 Drawing. 4. Bid on Silent and Live Auction Donations. Please join us once again this year as we support our injured troops.

2014 DCUC Conference & Showcase August 24-27, 2014

Optional Tours Fort Worth Historic Stockyard Tour

JFK Sixth Floor Museum

Saturday, August 23, 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Tuesday, August 26, 3:00 – 5:30 p.m.

Be transported back to the Wild West, visiting the Fort Worth Historic Stockyards. On your way to Fort Worth, your tour guide will explain to you the exciting history of the Wild West and the impact that Fort Worth had in that time period.

On November 22nd, 1963, shots rang out over Dealey Plaza and changed Dallas, and the world, forever. On this day John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States of America, was assassinated as his motorcade passed through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, at the doorstep to the city. Kennedy was the youngest man elected President and the youngest to die.

At the height of World War I in 1917, the Fort Worth Stockyards was the largest horse and mule market in the world and during WWII, processed over 5 million head of livestock in auction. At the Stockyards, you will have time to visit The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame that is housed in the area’s original horse and mule barns. You will then have time to explore the Stockyards and visit the wide array of stores that it has to offer, including Billy Bob’s Texas Gift Store, Lonestar Wines and The Rodeo Shop. You can even take a stab at the Cowtown Cattlepen Maze, a 5,400 square foot wooden maze, or stand on the second level and observe your friends making their way through the labyrinth!

Cost is $95.00 per person (based on a 24 person minimum)

Follow in the steps and the final hours of President Kennedy’s visit to Dallas with a certified DFW Tour guide. You will begin with a guided walking tour of Dealey Plaza, located at the heart of the city center. Stand on the infamous Grassy Knoll, explore various theories related to the assassination and discover the elements that make Dealey Plaza one of the most fascinating and controversial locations in the city. Then enjoy a self-guided audio tour of the Sixth Floor Museum located in the old Texas School Book Depository, which is a chronicle of the life and legacies of John F. Kennedy. Although the assassination of President John F. Kennedy occurred over 50 years ago, the controversy over the events surrounding the assassination has never died down. You will then have the opportunity to visit the JFK Memorial Plaza, a tribute built in the early 1970’s. Your certified and knowledgeable tour guide will be there to guide and answers any questions that you may have.

Cost is $45 per person (no minimum required)
