ART

For me, no trip to The Big Apple would be complete without a trip to the famous Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum on 5th Avenue. Sitting on the halfway point of Central Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright designed building has stood the test of time as it was opened way back in 1959 and has since housed works by some of modern arts finest and thought provoking artists. One such artist that I have long been an admirer of is Jackson Pollock, his stark creations buck the trend of what is perceived to be standard operating procedure when painting a piece of art. His paint spattered creations may seem like bedlam to some eyes, but the layers and intricacy of his work, especially Alchemy which is currently on display is a feast for the abstract eye. What is even more impressive is that this particular piece, and much of his work dates back to 1947. There is an insane amount of modern art housed within the sculpted walls of the Guggenheim, but my interest was more than piqued when I learned that this piece was on public display. There is also the huge amount of street art and graffiti that adorns the walls, streets and every available surface of the city.
