Meet the EMEA Executive Sponsors & Judges
I am an advocate for diversity, believing that it leads to better innovation and success. Women are a big part of that diversity picture, and an under-represented opportunity for the digital technology industry overall. Being a woman myself, I believe I have the insights and perspective to make a difference in advocating for women to join and be successful in our industry – and I believe this starts with celebrating the fantastic women who play such a key role in digital, who can bring those diverse perspectives and capabilities, and who can act as role models for the younger generation.
EQ – emotional intelligence – is important for all leaders regardless of gender but is often a key and even natural attribute for women in digital. This doesn’t equate to “soft” or “easy;” EQ more relates to recognizing and empathizing with the diverse perspectives of those around us, be they team members, peers, leaders or even customers, and recognizing and valuing that uniqueness in both ourselves and in others. This often leads to being yourself – bringing your own capabilities to the table. Other attributes I believe make strong leaders: not being afraid to challenge the status quo; being open, honest and fair in all dealings; being a servant leader; decisiveness and directness.
To budding women leaders: be your best self regardless of your role. Leadership is about influencing others to follow your lead, not necessarily having a “manager/leader” role or title. Recognize that everyone you interact with knows something you don’t know and can do something you can’t do – make it your mission to learn from everyone. Likewise, share your experiences with others as you also have unique capabilities and talents to share.
