So, you say that you want to lose weight? Take a minute and look at the forces at play. The government s says that you should lose weight. . .. but their food pyramid diagram almost guarantees weight gain and probably Type 2 Diabetes with all the basic carb intake it recommends.

Big Pharma loves it if you stay overweight and suffer from all these weights related illness requiring all kinds of expensive medications. That’s how they make billions and billions of dollars! They can’t afford for you to be healthy. How about your friends? Surely, they’re on your side. Probably not so much. If you start feeling great and looking awesome all the time, you’re going to make them look really bad. . .. Maybe they’ll invite you over for dessert to celebrate your success.

Of course, your family is going to be on board with you getting fit and healthy. They’re on your side. Maybe. Until you start to look a bit sexier and your spouse and kids fear you may look “too good.” Time to slow down that weight loss because they’re not feeling comfortable. . .. And have you seen a pot luck dinner at church? That’s one of the “deadly sins” they’re rather comfortable with if you don’t notice the numbers of pies and cakes on the buffet line.

And you thought a diet was the challenge. That’s the easy part!

None of this is a reason to give up. But it is a reason to develop a really strong “WHY” for yourself. It’s going to have to pull a load that will overcome all of that other stuff dragging you down.

YOU WANT TO LOSE WEIGHT BUT HAVE THE LACK OF CONGRUENCE

Congruence. . . What Is That????

When was the last time you had the amazing experience of a bunch of things just coming together easily and effortlessly? Maybe it was a project, or a work task you liked, or maybe some creativity spilling into your life? Recall that, in that kind of state, results seem to have come almost automatically; even when you’re not thinking about them every second.

The state of mind that allowed those effortless results was a state of congruence at all levels: conscious and unconscious, psychological, social &spiritual. Kind of like harnessing all of those parts together to get stunning results.

Assume for a moment, a general truth: most of your life at this moment, including weight, is a semi-tolerable compromise between levels and parts of you. Consciously you might want to lose weight, but unconsciously you “know” it “protects” you because of some pattern that began decades ago.

Moving towards weight goals can be just like that effortless task when every layer and part of you is congruent in outcome with all the layers and parts. At that point, resistance is gone, and reaching your goal just becomes a natural outcome from unified forces towards a clear goal.

This is the simple reason why it is so important to explore each of those pieces and test yourself to make sure everything is congruent or aligned. Wouldn’t this make the idea of weight loss a bit easier and feel like an expansive self-exploration rather than a hateful chore?

Find Your Why

It might seem like a really obvious question. . .. “why do I want to lose weight?” Perhaps it seems like it. But I doubt it. And here’s why.... Ask yourself, what is it that you actually want? Is it to lose weight for its own sake? That’s not much of a motivation.

Maybe it’s good health you’re looking for or a reduction in aches and pains, or maybe you’re looking to reduce the risk of diabetes or heart disease. Those are all admirable, but they’re not really powerful enough to stand up against a slice of cheesecake, are they? Maybe the first one, but how about a month from now?

When you have your why, a lot of the how’s will fall into place, and your resolve will last a lot longer.

One friend held his new-born grandbaby in his hand, and in that moment, knew at the very core of his being, that he was going to see her graduate college while he was still healthy and fighting fit. That WHY drove his eating and exercise habits and he dropped 30 pounds in just a few months and then kept them off for years.

Whys can be positive or negative. Another friend lost nearly 100 pounds and kept it off for years, just to avoid surgery. He doesn’t care for doctors!

Ask yourself what is “YOUR WHY”? Only you can find it. Only you know when you’ve found a strong enough why. Give this step the time and effort it truly deserves! I know your first thought may be to get a gym membership or maybe grab a low-carb shake. But start with your Why. It will make all the difference when you finally integrate your diet into a comfortable lifestyle.
