Phil Burke elected president of TPAA
A year of challenges and notable achievements THE managing director of Australian United Timbers Pty Ltd, Burraga, NSW, Phil Burke was elected president of the Timber Preservers Association of Australia at the annual general meeting in Melbourne last Tuesday. He succeeds David Spence, managing director of Waterhouse Treated Pine in Melbourne. Australian United Timbers is a joint venture, bringing together the resources from independently successful timber manufacturing and wholesale companies, formerly trading as Permalog Pty Ltd of Brisbane and Pacpine Pty Ltd of Burraga. The company uses renewable plantation timbers in the production of landscaping, fencing and building timber products. These products are produced at milling and treatment facilities in Brisbane Qld and Burraga NSW. Recognised as a market leader in the supply of certified building poles and large diameter perfect rounds, Australian United Timbers was the first company in Australia to produce pressure impregnated coloured and treated timber, marketed as Cherrypine. New vice-president is Peter Herde of Portland Pine Products, one of the largest manufacturers of treated round wood products in Australia, based at Heywood in Portland Pine Products is a part of the AKD Softwoods group,

a fully integrated plantation forestry and timber processing company with primary manufacturing sites in Colac, Vic. AKD Softwoods has a processing capacity of 400,000 cub m of sawlog a year, some of which is harvested from 6000 ha of company’s managed land, with the remainder sourced from plantations in the southwest region of Victoria.
