Now we need to know the process of dyeing with the help of liquid dyes. Here the most commonly used Direct Yellow shade of paper is mentioned however other hues can be prepared in the similar procedure with the addition of other colour pigments with a slight difference, like the quantity of salt would be higher for darker hues and lower for light shades. How are Liquid Dyes used for manufacturing Yellow Paper – The colour pigment along with liquefying chemicals are mixed with silica filters. The mixture so formed is then acidified with an inorganic acid with pH level below 2.5. The mixture is further heated so that the free acid complex of the yellow chromophore and sodium sulphate or sodium chloride is formed. The salt that is formed is water soluble in nature while the insoluble acid complex is filtered out and coated with an aqueous base. The ultimate result is that of a filter cake with free acid complex. It is now washed well so that the salt content is removed. Then the cake is churned in alkanol amine or water mixture. The alkanolamine is present in sufficient quantity to provide an aqueous basewith the pH range between 6.5 to 7.5. Now the free acid complex gets converted into liquid alkanolamine stilbeneazo(xy) complex of Direct Yellow 11 which is again desorbed from the silica filter aid. The ultimate resulting filtrate contains the alkanolaminecomplexed Direct Yellow chromophore. Now the water is removed and the liquid Paper Yellow 11 complex dyestuff is formed.
