Janmashtami Celebrated with Great Joy, Devotion at BAPS Akshardham

roBBiNsville, NJ: With great devotion, the Hindu community came together to celebrate Janmashtami, honoring the birth of Bhagwan Shri Krishna, on September 7, 2023. This auspicious event took place amidst the threemonth-long ‘Festival of Inspirations’, marking the inauguration of the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham, a beacon of ancient Hindu values set against the backdrop of the contemporary world, which stands as an inspiration of ancient Hindu values.

The program consisted of incidents capturing Bhagwan Shri Krishna’s life, enriched with profound wisdom, playful innocence, and divine deeds, enlightened attendees, guiding them through His revered teachings.

The evening was graced with profound spiritual discourses.

Pujya Shrutiprakashdas Swami delved into the Shrimad Bhagvad Gita, highlighting the transformative power of seeking refuge in God.

Drawing parallels from the epic Mahabharat, he emphasized the unwavering protection bestowed by God upon those who surrender to Him, emphasizing the importance of trust in divine wisdom during moral dilemmas.

Renowned scholar, Mahāmahōpādhyāya Pujya Bhadreshdas Swami cited another verse from the Shrimad Bhagvad Gita - Esha Brahmi Sthiti in contemplation of how transcendence of material desires, embracing equanimity and aligning oneself

with Aksharbraman, results in the attainment of brahmi stiti, the state of utmost equilibrium and oneness with God. Using the analogy of the ocean’s calm surface amidst the deep, tumultuous waters, he imparted the significance of achieving inner peace and balance, citing His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj as a living testament.

Sadguru Pujya Ishwarcharandas

Swami, referencing the Vachnamrut, shed light on the unparalleled devotion the gopis held for Bhagwan Shri Krishna, illustrating how

Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s teachings can be incorporated into our daily lives. illustrated the deep affection and devotion that the gopis, female devotees of Bhagwan Shri Krishna, had for him. He spoke on how we can all imbibe lessons from these incidents to strengthen our devotion to God.

The epic tale of the Mahabharat was dramatically re-enacted, emphasizing Arjun’s choice of Bhagwan Shri Krishna’s divine strength over sheer military might, symbolizing that true victory lies in unwavering faith in God. Following a dance depicting Bhagwan Shri Krishna’s childhood story, the celebration concluded with various Janmashtami traditions.

A Radiant Beginning: CMH Welcomes Bala Vihar Students and Families

In a heartwarming and spiritually uplifting event, Chinmaya Mission Houston (CMH) celebrated its annual opening of Bala Vihar 2023-24 on Sunday, September 10, 2023. The day was nothing short of magical as children, their enthusiastic teachers, and all sevaks and families of CMH came together to offer prayers and light the way forward.

One of the most captivating sights of the day was the sea of blue that enveloped the premises. The teachers, mentors, and volunteers donned elegant blue attire, symbolizing Chinmaya Mission’s depth of knowledge and devotion. This choice of color not only added to the visual splendor of the event but also carried a profound message of unity, wisdom, and spiritual growth.

The memorable event began with Vedic and Chinmaya Arati praying for the guidance of God and Guru. Then, invoking Pujya Gurudev

Swami Chinmayananda’s blessings, Acarya Gaurang Nanavaty led a procession of teachers who carried saffron goblets with diyas shining within. As the dedicated

teachers lined up in front of all, the young Bala Vihar students arose with diyas in their hands to repeat the Chinmaya Mission pledge. The flickering flames represented

the light of knowledge, the eternal flame that Chinmaya Mission aims to ignite in every heart. Melodious voices filled the air, and heartfelt prayers resonated with the spirit of the day – to embark on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual growth. The teachers’ unwavering commitment and love for their students shone through in this special moment.

The theme highlighted for this Bala Vihar year is TEAM – Together Everyone Achieves More. In his opening day address, Acarya Gaurang Nanavaty emphasized the greatness of working together and giving our best. With a humorous yet thought-provoking story, he emphasized that diligent study of the scriptures is the key to unlocking happiness that is our essential nature.

After the bright ceremony, children and teachers enthusiastically engaged in icebreaker activities and beginning lessons in their own classrooms. It was an opening day filled with laughter, camaraderie, meaningful connections, and excitement for our year ahead. The Bala Vihar students in their colorful Indian clothes and the teachers dressed in beautiful blue set the tone for what promises to be a transformative, enriching journey ahead.

As the day concluded, it left everyone with a profound sense of purpose and gratitude. Chinmaya Mission Houston stands as a beacon of knowledge, devotion, and inspired seva, guiding the community towards a brighter future. The opening day was a testament to the enduring spirit of Chinmaya Mission, where teamwork and spirituality converge to illuminate the path of self-discovery for all who seek it.

As we reflect on this remarkable day, we are reminded of the profound words of Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda, the inspiration behind this mission: “The light of wisdom, shining through the scriptures, has always been effulgent; yet, for the one who is veiled in ignorance, it does not shine.” With events like these, Chinmaya Mission Houston is determined to keep this light shining brightly, dispelling the darkness of ignorance, and guiding its sudents towards a life of fulfillment and spiritual awakening.

We will open Bala Vihar registrations in-person on Sundays starting on Sep 24th. Our classes get full very fast. For any questions related to Bala Vihar registrations, please reach out to CMHregistrations@chinmayahouston.org

Synopsis: A masked vigilante (Shah Rukh Khan), sets out to accelerate some right societal changes, in his own ways. He along with his army of super heroic women, work towards enabling justice by taking on a dangerous arms dealer Kali (Vijay Sethupathi).

Review: No one seems to be having more fun than Shah Rukh Khan, in his action hero era. The romantic Raj and Rahuls have finally released SRK from their magnetic spell so he can wholeheartedly embrace the smouldering Pathaan and Jawan. In Atlee’s ambitious action drama, SRK is a jailer moonlighting as a vigilante, but he is also Captain Vikram Rathod, a patriot. What is his story?

Expect ample twists and turns in this tale of desi Robin Hood and his tech-savvy, gun-wielding angels.

Jawan is peppered with meta and pop culture references. You will be reminded of Money Heist, Squid Game, The Dark Knight Rises, old Hindi songs and The Lion King but topping it all, is a heady mix of SRK-Atlee tadka.

Only SRK can use the James Bond line and give it his own twist. “Rathod. Vikram Rathod. Naam toh suna hoga?” Lover boy king Khan’s tough avatar treads a new path. It isn’t devoid of his soft, sensitive charm despite the vengeance and violence galore. The Bollywood superstar seamlessly slips into South sensation Atlee’s universe, a rather new territory for him. Together, they entertain in this high-octane action thriller that’s rooted in emotions and familial drama.

An ode to fatherhood and female power, Jawan’s biggest victory

Solution Next Week

is its ability to juggle the personal, political, and social statements. You get the hint when SRK tells his nemesis, “Bete ko haath lagane se pehle, baap se baat kar.” He calling out the politics of religion and voicing his unwavering faith in democracy is the film’s highlight and the part that is bound to get the most claps. Writers Sumit Arora, Atlee and Ramanagirivasan get the dialoguebaazi right even as the story rotates between several moods – humour, tragedy and revenge.

While Pathaan was high on style, Jawan raises the stakes with a story and purpose, too. The women get their moment in the sun and aren’t treated secondary to the hero, no matter how many SRKs join the party. Deepika Padukone looks beautiful and is solid in an extended cameo. Clash of words, ethics and wigs between SRK and Vijay Sethupathi is fun to watch. Exuding strange humour and rage, Sethupathi makes for a formidable

villain. While the brief romantic track between Nayanthara and SRK doesn’t quite work, the girl squad comprising Nayanthara, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, Sanjeeta Bhattacharya, Girija Oak and Lehar Khan make their presence felt. Promoted as an Anirudh (Ravichander) musical, the film’s background score and songs complement its style and nature. Zinda Banda and Chaleya are the best in the lot, but the latter has the most abrupt placement. While there is nothing that distracts you from the plot that has a dime a dozen twists and turns, at 2 hours 49 mins, the film needed a tighter edit. For action buffs, there is ample adrenaline rush throughout the story. Do not miss the opening sequence. Jawan feeds off SRK’s stardom. It isn’t intimidated by him.Like a paisa vasool desi thaali, it has all kinds of flavour to satiate your taste buds. The reincarnation of ‘action hero SRK’ hits the sweet spot. -- Times of India
