I have a simple way of telling whether properties can get good rent: If you buy something at $300,000, then you want to know that you will receive at least $300 per week in rental income, if its purchase price is $400,000, then you want at least $400 per week in income. There are exceptions of course, but I’ve always found this is a good general formula. I once read a great book by Simon Reynolds called When They Zig You Zag (Pan Macmillan).
