Takingon a highlytechnjcalindustryat such ayoungagerecently led toYash being recognised asoneofthe country'smost influential Asian-Australians under the age of40.

IndianLinkrecentlycaughtupwith Yashaboutrunning start-ups,youth,and personal and professional growth.

Tell me what itmeans toyou to be recognised in the 40 Under 40 list of influence

It'sgreatvalidation toget a nodofapproval fro1n apanel ofsuccessful people in respectable positions. it'salso a title that allowsme togetintoctifferentrooms thatI wasn'tinbefore

But thebigthingfor me is beingableto form thoseconnectionswithotherpeople on that list. Those people become part of yourcore circle, especiallyfor me, being youngerand havingtogrow up alittle earlier.

Youstarted Techflow, a platform for youth conversation and collaboration on technology, atthe age ofjust 14 How did thatcome about? Tech Flowwasaboutconversation. My friends and I were concerned about how technologywasgoing toaffectour future careers, but noone weknewwasreally talking about it.

Myfriend and I,whoboth loved and understoodtechnologyand had strong STEM backgrounds, thoughtwecould use ourskillstoaddress that lackof conversation bycreatingTechFlow.

Weproducedcontentabout new technologiesand howtheycouldaffect young people, and we also covered technologyeventsaround Australia, sharinginformationforGeneration Z. That conversationeventuallygrewto involve tens ofthousandsofteenagers worldwide.

What's the biggest challenge you've faced in buildingYuva towhat it is today?

At the start itwasvery difficult, because I'd be pitching topeople with kidsmyage. Thereweretimeswhen people wouldsay to me "I thoughtyouwerethe intern", or "I've got a team ofpeoplewith PhDs, whyshould I askyou tohelpus?"

I'd beon Linkedln messaging hundreds and hundredsofpeoplewith specialised messages, and maybeonly 10%wouldeven reply.

Butyouhave to put in all thatworkfrom the start: identifywhat is required and the differentavenuesyou can take toget there, whetherit'supskillingyourself, buildinga tean1,orsomethingelse. It'sa processof constant iteration.

Youjust need toget that firstwin, get thatfirstperson to sayyes. And once Igot thatwin, havingputinall the hard workup front, itwas a lot more satisfying.

You have had a non-traditional career pathforsomeone ofan Asian background, havinggone straightinto thestart-up sector after highschool. Talk to me about thatleap l'm ina highly techruca1field but time and againwhathas drivenmysuccesssofar is understandingpeople and the idea of empathy. eAsan AsianAustralian in STEM, you'll likelyhave a stronghard skill, whetherits engineering, science, maths orsomething else. But it allcon1es back tosolving problemsforpeople: ifyou understand a person better, youwill designa solution that's betterfortheirproblem.

It's ultin1atelya balance betweenself-belief and beingable to showresults.

StartingearlywithTechFlowgave me self-belief, itallowed me to see awhole differentworld ofpeople whowereableto build a successful business inthe sector. I thought, "Ifthey cando it,whycan't I?"

But I also had to proveitwith results. I had tomakewhatevervision I had for Yuva AJ a reality. And I was lucky to have numerous mentors, includingfa1nily support, thathelped meget the results, makethe rightbusiness decisions and push n1e intherightdirection.

Howdoyou 1nanage beingresponsible not onlyforyourselfbut three employees at the age of20?

As scaryas itis, itgivesyouadditional motivation to get results. We need to n1ake sure costs don't blow out ofproportion, thateveryoneis accountable fortheir roles, and thatwe achieve the milestoneswe need tohit.

Ifyou treat people the wayyou would like to be treated, and bring the111 along for thejourney, that open and honestculture getsyouthroughthe tougher moments.

What'snextforYuvaAl and foryou?

Growth. We're one ofthe pren1ierplayers in theworld now, sowe have somegood custon1erson board and now the focusis on growth.

I'm in initial talkswith my mentors trying to figure outour next milestones, including whetherwe bringon external capital to achieve them.

Anywordsofwisdom for youngAsian Australian entrepreneurs?
