Vivacious giddha enlivens ISCA Vaisakhi

Seniors in Melbourne got together under t he banner of ISCA (Indian Senior Citizen's Association of Victoria) to celebrate the festival of Vaisakhi recently. The celebration is an annual event and an integral part of ISCA.'s activiries and attracted enthusiastic parricipation from over 150 peop le th is year. The ISCA Va isakhi function was held at the Moun t Waverley Youth Centre in Mount Waver ley The young a t hea rt got together to sing popular, nostalgic songs while all the attend ees enjoyed a va riety of other performances Th e highlight was a vivacious giddha performance b y a loca l amateur group led by Mrs Dilpreec Jaswal. The talented dancers had the audience enthus iastically applauding and wanting more. The event concluded w ith a sumpruons Indian meal.
ISCA was established in 1994 as one of the first o rganisarion dedicated t o the welfare of seniors Since its inception, ISCA has grown to include over 300 members and conti n ues to attract mernbership from all parts of the state. While ISCA was initiallr c reated by seniors who migrated m Australia many years ago, it a lso welcomes n ewly arrived seniors and their families. ISCA offers a platform for all seniors co enjoy social networking and generate meaningful friendsh ips in thei r twilig h t years. Educational talks, short courses, multicultural events a nd numerous social activities keep the members e n gaged throug hout the year ISCA members conduct weekly classes on yoga and computer and mobile phone usage, am ong others. They also invite guest speake rs to infor m members of relevant topics Like health and security All the major festivals are also celebrated with great enthusiasm and ISCA's mulricult:ural day is one of the most popular and much awaited event every year. Ethnic groups are invited co this event co raise awar eness of unity within tl1e community. The objective of ISCA is to promote healthy living in a harmonious environ ment.
