Thousands attend HSV cultural centre inauguration

The Sh ri Shiva Vishnu temple in Carn1m Downs is the largest Hindu temp le in the southern hemisphere, consecrated in 1994. The temp le has been m ade possible due to the vision and planning by the Hindu Society of V ictoria (HSV), a group established in 1984, which worked toward to build ing a centre for Hinduism in Melbourne. So from 1984 unti l 1994 after much p lanning, funding, and build ing, the dream of a Hindu temple was realised.
Now iu 2012, stage 2 of the plan h as also been realised. 111e Hindu Cultural and Heritage Centre situa ted adjacent to the temple was initiated in 2004, has now been offici alJy open ed. Th e total cost of the project was $8.4m, and was made poss ible with donations from devotees, b acking from sponsors, and with the financial help of the Victorian Government and t he 'Cultural Precincts and Community lnfrastrucrure Fund'
