Some fibres from the superior head penetrate the capsule of TMJ and insert into the anterior border of the articular disc of the joint. The remainder fibres from this origin and the fibres from the inferior origin insert into the neck of the condyle i.e. PTERYGOID FOVEA on the anterior surface of the neck of mandible.
