2. A NOD TO THE PAST AFTER MOVING TO THEIR HOME IN CARMEL, THE NAVILLE FAMILY created a Whiskey Room on the main level where they serve up whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches exclusively. The built-in wet bar was already there, but they added personal touches with family photos and a series of whiskey menus acquired on travels. Although the lower level features a full-service bar, the upstairs spot is everyone’s favorite. “The Whiskey Room is always open,” Jason Naville says. “That’s where we end up anytime we’re entertaining.”
Jason discovered this porcelain collector’s bottle sporting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo in the basement of his greatgrandfather’s house. The bottle is from the Americana Collection by J.W. Dant Distillery. Also discovered were companion bottles depicting the Boston Tea Party and the shootout at the Alamo.
These pint whiskey bottles were stashed in Jason’s great-grandparents’ attic. Easily hidden in a vest pocket, they were his greatgrandfather’s solution to imbibing while staying in his wife’s good graces.
No gathering is complete without a traditional toast to the 93-year-old matriarch of the family. “Grandma Jane still enjoys her whiskey and a good card game,” Jason says.
Ten years ago, the Navilles purchased this late-1700s piece, which once graced a hotel bar in Paris, at an antique-furniture auction in Evansville. It features detailed carving, scrolled ironwork, and the original skeleton keys. The price? $267. “It was a nice find,” Jason says. “You might say it was a steal.”

Currently, the room houses 126 different whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches. The couple acquired many of them over the years, but several are gifts. “A nice bottle of whiskey always does the trick,” Jason says. If he had to choose just one, it’d be his bottle of Midleton Irish Whiskey from Jameson Distillery.
