Former McNairy student writes children’s art book By Jeff York Contributor

A 1980 graduate of McNairy Central High School has written her first art book for children. Kathy Busse Barbro published the book “Sharpie Art Workshop for Kids.” “I’ve been moonlighting to my moonlighting job and have written my first art book,” said Barbro. “Quarry Books asked if I would be interested in creating a Sharpie art book for kids as they had just done well with one for adults.” Barbro said she was thrilled to do the book.

arson charge in Sweetwater, Tenn and other charges in Mississippi. “The more we dug, the more we found,” said Steve Ellsworth, an investigator with the McNairy County’s Sheriff’s Office. Roland, 24, and Alexander, 23, were arrested in Tupelo, Miss. and extradited to McNairy County. They face charges of theft of property, identity theft victim rights, criminal impersonation, forgery and aggravated burglary in the county. Ellsworth said the two men broke into Roland’s grandfather’s house and shop. They took keys to other homes of Roland’s family where they stole their personal information. The two charged 17 items on a family member’s account, t o t a l i n g $6,138.84. “ T h e y were pulling money out of direct deposit ALEXANDER

“Browsing bookstores for inspiration has always been the ultimate treat for me,” she said. “To see something of mine on the shelf is literally going to be a dream come true.” “Sharpie Art Workshop for Kids: Fun, Easy, and Creative Drawing and Crafts Projects” was released in November. The book can be purchased on Amazon for $13.38. The book is a wonderful tool for any teacher or parent looking for amazing art projects to do with items they have around the house or classroom, according to an Amazon review. Barbaro now lives in Studio City, Ca. a c c o u n t s,” said Ellsworth. Roland and Alexander were found in possession of seven BancorpSouth bank statements from BurnsROLAND ville, Miss. along with numerous half dollars and gold dollars when arrested Three BancorpSouth credit cards, a HP laptop computer, a checkbook and seven pages of bank statements were also part of the items recovered. They also had new cellphones purchased in Sweetwater with stolen information. “They kept tremendous records in several books,” said Ellsworth. “They had everything you could think of written down.” Ellsworth said close to 10 people are victims in the case. McNairy County Sheriff Guy Buck said he is proud of Ellsworth’s efforts. “He kept digging and didn’t stop with an easy charge,” said Buck.

to the point of pain ... it’s about starting with what they can do and not what they can’t do.” “Yoga is not just a class,” added Cathy “Mala” Wilcutts, a student and friend of the yoga teacher. “Her classes are an experience that ministers to the body, soul and spirit.” Mala has known Simchah for 20 years. “She is a beautiful person,”

posal to the county commission requesting the county issue Proposed School Bonds in two or more emissions. The school board agreed to a pledge of the Pledge School Funds and authorizes the county commission to additionally pledge such funds in connection with the issuance of the bonds. McNairy County Director of Schools Wayne Henry and Board Chairman Jarrell Stanfield are authorized to enter into negotiations with the appropriate representatives of the county commission in order to memorialize the school district the board of education’s pledge of the Pledged School Funds and the reciprocal agreements of the county and and board of commission in the form of the draft Interlocal Agreement. The final step of the resolution gives the director of schools and board of education chairman authorization to take any steps necessary to fulfill the terms of the final executed Interlocal Agreement. “Basically the resolution says the school board is requesting the county commission enter into an agreement on the final aspects of the project” said Henry. By signing the resolution the board of education agrees to contractually obligate itself and the school system to pay all the debt service – principal and interest – on the Proposed School Bonds.

said Mala. “I always come away feeling better inside and out following her class.” “She has taught me the cleaning of the mind and relaxing of the body can be as simple as taking the time to breathe,” added student Ronnie Brooks. “Simchah has made it ever so clear that improving your relationship with the Lord through prayer and following His teachings can prepare you for life’s everyday challenges.” Simchah hopes to add a life

coach certification in the future to her 500-hour registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) and Certified Yoga Therapist (CYT) with Yoga Alliance certifications. “Half of our problems are how we think,” she said. “Yoga will change that ... it will change your life.” (Those interested in yoga can learn more about Breath of Life Yoga & Therapy at www. breathoflifeyoga.org. The resolution now goes to the budget committee of the county commission. The committee and the school board met prior to the regular school board meeting on Thursday. “The biggest thing was getting everyone together to have a good discussion about the project,” said Henry. The project request seeks to add 16 classrooms, administration offices, a multi-purpose building and a cafeteria to Adamsville Elementary. Cost of the 30,000-square foot project will be about $5.6 million. At Selmer Elementary, the proposed new addition would add 36 classrooms, administration offices, and a cafeteria and kitchen, as well as equipment. The new building will take up to 85-86,000 square feet and would cost $13.7 million. Total cost of the proposed project is $19.3 million. “This will allow us to build what we need to build,” said Henry of the project plan. The $19.3 million amount can be used for either building or furnishings. Henry said the board feels comfortable at the $19.3 figure because it enables them to stay at or near their current debt service payment. The figure also allows the district to begin construction while still paying its present debt without adding to the current debt. School board member Mark Massey has been part of two

building plans in the early 80s and late 90s as principal of Adamsville High School. “This is the prime time of construction,” said Massey. “Just looking at things, I think it makes sense to start moving at least on our part.” Massey added he has no reservations about the project. “It’s green light for us and imperative we make a move and not delay,” he said. In other board business: • Approved the request for maternity leave for Bethel Springs Elementary’s Allison Lambert and Sandra Miller. • Voted to hire Judy Austin for four hours per day as a McNairy Central cafeteria worker; Roger Williams as Selmer Middle School custodian; Ashley Poole as Selmer Elementary Special Education parapro and Angie Edwards as a cafeteria worker. • Passed the second reading on Emergency Preparedness Plan, Instructional Materials, Student Surveys, Analyses and Evaluations, Prevention and Treatment of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and Student Records policy updates. • Approved the Offer vs. Serve Policy. • Passed the copier request of Selmer Middle School. • Approved the first reading of the Student Wellness policy update. • Upheld the discipline decision of a student who was given 45 days in alternative school for fighting on a school bus.
