Clara Mae Cox Ray departed this life December 25, 2012, age 76 years 4 months 25 days, at home surrounded by her family. Funeral services were under the direction of Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer, TN, with the Rev. J.V. Davis officiating on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 1 p.m. Interment followed in Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Pallbearers were Keith Price, William Brasher, Monty Ray, Jim Ray, Jeff Kelley and Tim Wilson. Born July 30, 1936, she was the youngest of 3 children of Elmer Curtis Cox and Graple Lucille McCalip Cox of McNairy County, Tenn. She was educated in Bethel Springs Schools. On November 22, 1952, she married her childhood sweetheart, Clinnon Ray. They recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. Moving to Jackson in 1955 to make their home, Mrs. Ray worked for many years with Drs. Billy Pollard, Walter Hills, and James Youmans as office manager. She retired from Madison County Registers Office in 2008. Clara was an avid cook for her home, friends and church functions at Pinson Baptist Church were they have attended for more than 45 years. She loved spending time with her family, enjoying fruit from the orchard and gardening. Mrs. Ray is survived by her beloved husband, Clinnon; daughter, Shiela Sorrell and fiance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Ann Nell Cox Robinson and husband Melvin , and Charles Cox. The family expresses great appreciation to Dr. Allen Nafitilan and Dr. David Zhao, along with the staff of Vanderbilt Hospital for all of their priceless devotion and care. Asera Hospice, Barbara, Angela, Lacey, Nancy and Angela. Services were held on December 28, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tennessee, Rev. J. V. Davis officiated. Burial followed in the Mt. Gilead Cemetery at Bethel Springs, Tennessee. Pamela Elaine Pitts was born November 27, 1960 in Savannah, Tenn., the daughter of Earline Melson Pitts Kirby and the late Roy Gene Pitts. Ms. Pitts departed this life on December 24, 2012 in Selmer, Tennessee at the age of 52 years, 27 days. She is survived by two daughters, Amanda Morris and husband Phillip of Savannah, Tenn. and Hope Howell and husband Ricky of Adamsville, Tenn.; six grandchildren: Zachary Howell, Quinton Howell, Molly Howell, Melody Morris, Lacey Mae Howell, and Maggie Elaine Morris; a sister, Lisa Hefner and husband Al of Milledgeville, Tenn.; and many extended family and friends. In addition to her father, Ms. Pitts was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Pitts. Services were held on December 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville with Jeremy Weekley officiating. Burial followed in the Milledgeville Cemetery.
Infant Jaxon Brent Weymond Carlin was born December 24, 2012 in Corinth, Mississippi, the son of Garron Brent and Kimberly Dianne Kyle Carlin. Infant Carlin lived a short while before departing this life on December 24, 2012 at Magnolia Regional Hospital in Corinth, Mississippi. In addition to his parents, infant Carlin is survived by his grandparents, Pastor George P. Kyle and Betty Dianne of Selmer, Tenn., Chris and Sondra Murrah of Michie, Tenn.; his aunt, Angela Kyle of Selmer, Tenn.; his uncle, Pastor Steven Kyle and wife Jennifer of Panama City, FL; and a host of other relatives. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Johnny Weymond Carlin. A graveside service was held on December 26, 2012 at the Hope McNairy County Memorial Cemetery in Selmer, Tennessee, Bro Harold King officiated.
Peggy Joyce Luckey Peggy Joyce Luckey was born March 13, 1949 in McNairy County, Tenn., the daughter of the late I. B. and Edyth Washburn Box. Mrs. Luckey was a retired Nurse and a member of the Good Hope Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tennessee. She departed this life on December 22, 2012 in Savannah, Tennessee at the age of 63 years, 9 months, 9 days. Mrs. Luckey is survived by two daughters, Rhonda Browder and husband Steve of Selmer, Tenn. and Monica Stricklin of Adamsville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Benji Smith and Bayli Smith; two nieces, Sharon Brummer and Holly Surratt; a nephew, Bill Maness; two sister-in-laws, Bettie Jordan and Glenda Wilson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Luckey was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Pat Luckey and a brother, William Ferrell Maness. Services were held on December 23, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville, Tennessee, Bro. Tim Elrod officiated. Burial followed in the Adamsville Cemetery at Adamsville, Tennessee.
John Wayne Replogle John Wayne Replogle, of Savannah, was born in McNairy County, Tennessee on July 27, 1941, the son of the late Bedford and Pearlie Mae Spencer Replogle. On February 17, 1968, he was united in marriage to Barbara Wilkerson, who survives. John Wayne was a resident of McNairy County for 20 years and Hardin County for 26 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bethel Springs, Tennessee and was employed with Savannah Utility Department for 13 years. He loved animals of all types and riding horses, he especially loved his children and grandchildren. John Wayne departed this life on Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the age of 71 years, 4 months, 29 days. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Wilkerson Replogle of Savannah, Tennessee; son, Christopher Wayne Replogle of Selmer, Tennessee; daughter, Julie Ann Replogle of Savannah, Tennessee; granddaughter, Allison Lane Replogle; sister, Peggy Freeman of Humboldt, Tennessee; brothers, twin brother Ernest Replogle and Joe Replogle both of Bethel Springs, Tennessee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shane Allen Replogle; brothers, Robert, B.B., Kenneth, and Guy Mac Replogle. Services were held on December 27, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Savannah in Savannah, Tennessee, with Scott Foster officiating. Burial followed in the Savannah Cemetery at Savannah, Tennessee.
Glenda Ervin Bass Glenda Ervin Bass, age 59 of Middleton, died Saturday morning, December 22 at McNairy County Regional Hospital. The wife of Martin Bass, who survives, she was a teacher with the Bolivar and Middleton school systems for 11 years and formerly worked for United Family Life Insurance Company. She was born May 7, 1953, in Covington to Ray Ervin of Selmer and the late Olene Baker Ervin and grew up in McNairy County. She was a 1972 graduate of McNairy County High School where she participated in cheerleading and was a 1990 graduate of Union University. She enjoyed the arts and crocheting hats to take to the cancer center. One of her greatest joys was playing with her grandchildren. Mrs. Bass was a member of Porters Creek Baptist Church, where she sang and played piano. She also played and sang for Dixie Hills Baptist Church and Hatchie Baptist Church. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Monday, December 24 at Shackelford Funeral Directors chapel in Bolivar with Adrian Knipper officiating. Burial was in Porters Creek Baptist Cemetery near Middleton. In addition to her husband, whom she married on November 14, 1982, and her father, survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Aimee (Jeff) Redmon of Stantonville, Christa (Justin) Tull of Bethel Springs; a son and his wife, Eric (Stacy) Seaton of Bolivar; a brother, William Cannon of Bolivar; six grandchildren, Riley and Katie Seaton, Jack Simpson, Jordan, Emilee and Luke Redmon; and a brother in law, Jerome Bass of Middleton. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie. The family requests memorials be directed to the Baptist Children’s Home, 6896 US 70, Memphis, TN 38133.
Paul David Plunk Paul David Plunk departed this life Thursday, December 20, 2012, at the age of 79 years, 25 days. He was born in Hardin County, Tennessee on November 25, 1933, the son of the late Roscoe and Dexter Doreen Blankenship Plunk. Paul David or P.D. as he was known by those close to him, was a quality control supervisor with Halliburton Brownroot. He loved to fish and to travel. He was a veteran of the US Army. P.D. is survived by his children, Paula Dunn of Florida, D’Lesa Plunk and T’Resa Plunk Porto both of Houston, Texas, Paul David Plunk II and wife Renay of Crump, Tennessee; 3 grandchildren; sisters, Mary Smith of Horn Lake, Mississippi, Thelda Church and Ella Bailey both of Southaven, Mississippi; brothers, Samuel Plunk of Savannah, Tennessee, Harold Plunk of Parsons, Tennessee, Raymond Plunk of Southaven, Mississippi and Eddie Plunk of Horn Lake, Mississippi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Omega Ruth Plunk and brother, James T. Plunk. Services were held on December 24, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Christian Assembly Pentecostal Church in Crump, Tennessee, with W.D McCollum officiating. Burial followed in the Crump Cemetery at Crump, Tennessee.
Jimmy Carl Harville Jimmy Carl Harville was born January 23, 1941 in Hardin County, Tenn., the son of the late Homer and Voneta Turner Harville. He was united in marriage to Willodean Landreth on August 15, 1964. Carl was a farmer and logger. He was a member of Solitude Free Will Baptist Church. His hobby was playing dominoes. Carl departed this life on Saturday, December 22, 2012 in Jackson, Tennessee at the age of 71 years, 10 months, 29 days. He is survived by his wife Willodean Harville of Adamsville, Tenn.; two sons, Dewayne Harville and wife Brenda of Stantonville, Tenn., Josh Harville of Adamsville; four grandchildren, Issac and Rachel Harville and Dylan and Jasper Harville; five sisters, Frankie Nell Hall of Adamsville, Cora Magdalena Hill of Adamsville, Jo Ellen Campion of Selmer, Tenn., Lena Bell Cook of Adamsville, Ruthie Lee Murray of Adamsville; two brothers, James Sincler Harville of Adamsville, Jerry Dee Harville of Adamsville; a sister-in-law, Betty Lena Harville of Adamsville; a brother-in-law, Charles Moore of Adamsville; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Harville was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Sue Moore; a brother, Webster Harville. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister. Services were held on Monday, December 24, 2012 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville with Bro. Marvin Morrow, Bro. Shane Thompson officiating. Burial followed in the Mars Hill Cemetery near Adamsville. Serving as Pallbearers were Nicholas Moore, Jason Harville, Shane Murray, Wade Huckabee, Jonathan Elam, Ross Landreth, Spencer Bean, Ted Height. Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Droke, Russell Daniel, Billy Joe Kerby, J. S. Boyd. Shackelford’s of Selmer was in charge of arrangements.
