Gerald Van “Possum” Maxedon Jr. of Selmer, Tenn. was born July 13, 1948, the son of Gerald Van Maxedon and Eva Pearl Barnes Maxedon. Mr. Maxedon was a plumber and electrician for 35 years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, loved woodworking and taking in the social life of McNairy County. He departed this life on April 3, 2015 in Selmer, Tenn. at the age of 66, after a long term of battling lung cancer. He spent 9 months in McNairy County Health Care Center. He is survived by three brothers, many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog “Eddie”. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eva Pearl Barnes Maxedon in 2009 and his father, Gerald Van Maxedon in 2006; a sister, Nancy in 1995. His ashes were laid to rest on April 18th at 10 a.m. beside his mother and father at Mt. Vernon Cemetery. He will be missed by many.

Tommy Joe Pearson of Selmer, Tenn., was born March 18, 1963 in Corinth, Miss., the son of Lynn and Neoma Hensley Pearson. He departed this life on April 18, 2015 in Selmer at the age of 52 years, 1 month. Tommy had worked as a Tool & Dye Maker at Porter Cable in Jackson, Tenn. He enjoyed Civil War History, woodworking, fishing, hunting, and playing the guitar. His hobbies were collecting coins, arrowheads, and knives. He is survived by two daughters, Kelly Sanders and husband Chris of Selmer, Tenn. and Emily Vann; a son, Gunner Pearson of Selmer; his parents, Lynn and Neoma Pearson of Selmer; his aunt Von and uncle Danny of Selmer, along with a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Jonathon Pearson. A graveside service was held on April 21, 2015, 1:30 p.m., at the Indian Creek Cemetery near Chewalla, Tenn. with Bro. Gary Porterfield officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer was in charge of arrangements.

Joe Billy Mullen was born September 5, 1945 in Masseyville, Tenn., the son of the late Cooper Daniel and Aslee Tull Mullen. He was united in marriage to Doris Howell on March 7, 1964. He was a member of the Lakeview Baptist Church in Selmer and a member of Selmer Country Club. Joe Billy loved playing golf, camping, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Mr. Mullen departed this life on April 15, 2015 in Jackson, Tenn. at the age of 69 years, 7 months, 10 days. He is survived by his wife Doris Mullen; a daughter, Wannette Youngblood and husband Dale; a son, Danny Joe Mullen and wife Jackie all of Selmer, Tenn.; a sister, Linda Plunk and husband Ronnie of Finger, Tenn.; three grandchildren: Brandi Gilbert and husband Michael of Bethel Springs, Tenn., Matt Youngblood and companion Victoria Key of Memphis, Tenn., Gracie Jane Mullen of Selmer, Tenn.; a great-grandchild, Macee Gilbert of Bethel Springs, Tenn.; a sister-in-law, Opal Huggins of Selmer, Tenn.; and numerous other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Mullen was preceded in death by a brother, Dewayne Mullins. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., and on Sunday from 12 p.m. until services at 3 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors in Selmer, Tenn., with Rev. Troy Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the Lake Hill Memorial Gardens at Bethel Springs, Tenn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe Billy Mullen’s name to: BancorpSouth Bank, P.O. Box 9, Selmer, TN 38375; All proceeds will go to York Rite for Autism.

Sheila Kay Cox Flatt Sheila Kay Cox Flatt was born February 12, 1956 in Selmer, Tenn., the daughter of the late Robert Shelby and Tina Mae Roberson Cox. She departed this life on April 17, 2015 in Selmer at the age of 59 years, 2 months, 5 days. Sheila’s passion was writing poetry and some of her poems were published. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed working in her flower garden. She is survived by two daughters, Amanda Dunlap and husband Kevin of Humboldt, Tenn., Amy Suratt and husband Jason of Jackson, Tenn.; a son, John Michael Foster and wife Jamie of Jackson, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Gavine New, Chloe Suratt, Haley Foster, Abigail Silva Foster; a sister, Crystal Matthews of Henderson, Tenn.; three brothers, Robert Allen Cox and wife Jackie of Selmer, Tenn., Bret Cox and wife Sherry of Christiana, Tenn., James Bart Cox of Venice, FL; her companion, Joey R. Jordan of Selmer and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs Flatt was preceded in death by two sisters, Cynthia Tucker and Lisa Darlene Adkins. Memorial services were held on April 20, 2015 at 6 p.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Hollaway officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer.

Wayne “Scatter” Wallace Wayne (Scatter) Wallace was born October 6, 1926 in Lexington, Tenn., the son of the late William Thomas and Lucy Spain Wallace. He was united in marriage to Rebecca Maness on September 29, 1949. Mr. Wallace retired from PCA in Counce after 28 years of service and had also worked for the State of Tennessee surveying roads. After his retirement, he went to work for Pickwick Guide Service as a fishing guide for over 20 years. He was an avid bass and sauger fisherman participating in fishing tournaments in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. He was founding member of Pickwick Bass Masters and the Make A Wish Foundation Bass Tournament. He was the community fish cooker whether it was for a fundraiser, a political event but only if it was for a Democrat or just a gathering of friends at his house for a fish fry. He loved to cook, experiment with recipes and fellowship with family and friends. Outside of his fishing passion, he also enjoyed other sports. He was a baseball pitcher in his younger years, enjoyed bowling, watching basketball, a Tennessee Vols football fan, and playing golf. He was a charter member of the Adamsville Country Club. He served his country honorably in the United States and the Army National Guard. He was well liked by all who knew him and will be greatly missed in his community. Mr. Wallace departed this life on April 13, 2015 in Jackson, Tenn. at the age of 88 years, 6 months, 7 days. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rebecca (Maness) Wallace of Adamsville, Tenn.; a daughter, Carolyn Franks and husband Danny of Adamsville, Tenn.; a son, Tony Wallace of Adamsville, Tenn.; a brother, Glen Wallace and wife Barbara of Parsons, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Danna Talley and husband Jeff of Savannah, Tenn., Jessica Middelton of Olive Hill, Tenn., Jason Emery and wife Katie of Adamsville, Tenn.; six great grandchildren, Asia, Ivy, Faith, Eli, Emma, and Jeremy; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wallace was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Joe Wallace; and a great grandson, Jacob Allen Wallace. Visitation was held April 15, 2015 from 5 p.m. - 9 p.m. and services were held on April 16, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors of Adamsville in Adamsville, Tenn. Van Vansandt officiated. Burial followed in the Pine Hill Memorial Garden at Adamsville, Tenn.

Thomas Edward Coke Thomas Edward Coke was born November 23, 1934 in McNairy County, Tenn., the son of the late Roy Lee and Ella Mae Stanfield Coke. Mr. Coke was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Adamsville, Tenn. He served in the United States Army. Mr. Coke departed this life on April 16, 2015 in Selmer, Tenn. at the age of 80 years, 4 months, 24 days. He is survived by a sister, Peggy Howell of Selmer, Tenn.; nephews, Tim, Kerry and Jason Howell, Marlin and Mike Taylor; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Coke was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Ruth Taylor, Katherine Coke. A graveside service was held on April 18, 2015 at the Indian Creek Cemetery near Chewalla, Tennessee with Eric Weeks officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors of Selmer was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Copeland Patricia Copeland departed this life on Monday, April 13, 2015, at the age of 68 years, 8 months, 3 days. She was born in Guys, Tennessee on August 10, 1946, the daughter of Margaret Olene Rowland Ross and the late Howard Wilson Smith. Patricia was a sewing machine operator at Angelica for 25 years and had also worked for Walmart. She is survived by her children, Patty Stapleton and husband, Jim of Michie, Tenn., Gregory Lambert of Morris Chapel, Tenn. and Lisa Lambert of Corinth, Miss.; mother, Olene Ross of Corinth, Miss.; grandchildren, Carrie Millsap, Tim Roach, Brittany Lambert, Brianna Lambert, Jonathan Lambert, and Justin Lambert; great grandchildren, Aydian Roach, Mallory Lambert, Andie Lambert, Kylie Dees; step great grandchild, Amyia Farris; brothers, David Smith and wife Daynette of Warner Robins, Georgia, Ricky Smith and wife, Laura, Lamar Smith and wife, Connie all of Corinth, Miss. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Jack Copeland. Services were held on April 17, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Shackelford Chapel in Savannah, Tenn. Paul Weaver officiated. Burial followed in the Savannah Cemetery at Savannah, Tennessee.

Ola Marie Crum Ola Marie Crum, age 99, of Michie, Tenn. departed this life on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Mrs. Crum was born on March 4, 1916. She was a homemaker and a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church. She is survived by three sons: James Crum (Patricia) of Michie, Tenn., Charlie Crum (Joyce) of Michie, Tenn., and Roger Crum (Sandra) of Corinth, Miss.; four daughters, Ruby Spencer of Corinth, Miss., Ann Stewart (Garland) of Somerville, Tenn., Shirley Smith and Johnnie Bumpas (Bobby) of Corinth, Miss.; 17 grandchildren: Jackie Spencer (Gloria) Bryan Spencer (Michal), Barbara Cox (Stephone), Cathy Oswalt (Johnny), Lisa Sparks (Jeff), Kenny Armstrong, William Stewart (Krissy), Charlie Crum (Sherry), Jason Crum (Holly), Johnny Crum, Shelia Bishop (Ricky), Loria Crabb (Steve), Felicia Windham (Durrand), Kelia Bumpas, April Davis, Amanda Arnold, and Melissa Haynie; 34 great grandchildren, 13 great-greatgrandchildren, 1 great-great-great granddaughter. Other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Crum, of 57 years; a grandson, Gary Spencer; father, Alfred Glidewell, mother Jenny Jones Glidewell; a son-in-law, Andrew Spencer; brothers, Henry Glidewell and Lee Glidewell; sisters: Lola Willingham, Birdie Mae Lincolnfort and Lottie Lindsay. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at 1 p.m. Visitation was Monday, April 20, 2015 from 5 until 9 p.m. at Magnolia Funeral Home Chapel of Memories and Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 12 noon until service time at Magnolia Funeral Home. Jackie Spencer and Bro. Warren Jones officiated. Interment was at Lone Oak Cemetery in Kossuth, Miss. Pallbearers were grandsons: Bryan Spencer, William Stewart, Kenny Armstrong, Hayden Oswalt, Johnny Oswalt and Davis Stewart.
