THE RUGBY PLAYER is an uplifting and stereotype-shattering documentary that tells the story of a mother, a son, and what it takes to be a hero. The film explores the lives of Mark Bingham, one of the passengers of United Flight 93 on 9/11, and his mother, Alice Hoagland, a former United Airlines flight attendant. THE RUGBY PLAYER is an intimate portrait of how a son’s heroism can inspire a nation, and how a mother’s love can turn profound loss into unshakable resolve. Utilizing footage shot by Bingham himself, this timely film provides keen insights for the national debates on LGBT rights, marriage equality and gay athletes in sports. Besides the CLOSING screening, we will especially arrange a Special Memorable Screening on 11 Sep. * HBO Audience Award for Best Documentary, Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 2013 * Audience Award for Best Documentary, Connecticut Gay & Lesbian Film Festival 2013 * Audience Award for Best Documentary, Image Out Rochester 2013 * Celebration of Courage Award, Kansas City LGBT Film Festival 2013

The first Korean film received the Grand Jury Prize in Sundance Film Festival. JISEUL, the fourth film by Jeju director O Muel, is based on the true story of the Jeju 4.3 Incident. The Incident was sparked when the American military regime incited social strife and subsequent conflicts that lasted until September 1954. Almost 30,000 people are estimated to have been killed –most of them civilians. In 1948, as the government issued the communists’ eviction to the Jeju Island, the military invaded a calm and peaceful village. Running away from the army, townsfolk hid into the cave. They try to hide to survive but there seems to be no hope in the dark cave. As time goes by, people suffer from severe cold and hunger while staying in the cave. One day, it still seems that nothing has changed. A man who worries about his pigs tries to get back home to feed them but the rest stop him. With nothing but frustration, rifts develop as people debate if they should move to the higher mountain or just stay in the cave. * Grand Jury Prize (World Cinema Dramatic Competition), Sundance Film Festival 2013 * NETPAC Award, Directors Award by Director's Guild of Korea, Citizen Reviewers’ Award & CGV Movie Collage Award, the 17th Busan International Film Festival 2012 * The Golden Cyclo Award, the 19th Vesoul International of Asian Cinema 2013 * Jury Special Mention, the 32nd Istanbul Film Festival 2013 * Jury Special Prize, Tripoli International Film Festival 2013

This documentary explores how dominance and power influence human sexuality in general and gay male sexuality in particular. Thought provoking and controversial, candid and sometimes disturbing yet brutally honest in its approach, this film dares to shatter illusions and raise complex issues regarding gay male sexuality. The director encounters 15 gay men whose sexuality revolves around power, dominance and control. They allow the camera to capture portions of their sexual interactions. In addition to this R-rated footage, insightful conversations, some of which are captured after actual sexual encounters, we hear their revelations, fantasies and obsessions about sex, masculinity, power and dominance, which provide unusual access to the deeper, psychological aspects of sexuality. * Poland LGBT Film Festival * Torino LGBT Film Festival

“A documentary of 40 vintage bookstores X 40 bookstore owners’ attitude toward life” Hou Chi-jan, our good old friend who focus on the dynamic of modern society, turned his sight on long-established bookstores of Taiwan. Hou used characterized images and cinematic narrative to film a documentary of 40 bookstores. Moreover, he conducted an in-depth exploration on the life philosophy of 40 bookstore owners, in order to record the diversities of present-day bookstores. To grasp the beauty of the bookstores itself and the life pursuit of bookstore owners, the documentary featured 40 short films to highlight the atmosphere of book reading of Taiwan in the twenty-first century. Perhaps printed books are to fade out in the modern era, however, through the documentary, the elegancy of the lives of the bookstore owners will continue to shine for another century and centuries to come.
