Dear Readers Welcome to the

Inside this month’s issue

July issue of In and Around Iver I hope you have all remained safe and well during this rather strange and challenging time. I don’t think most of us had anticipated quite such a long lock down period and how it would affect our daily lives. For me personally, having not taken more than one week at a time away from my desk in 14 years, a sudden three month break was quite a shock! However, knowing everyone else out there was also in limbo, I eventually extracted myself from my desk and quickly became accustomed to a life of garden lounging and just enjoying being with my family. I consider myself very lucky on that front, as I know many of you may not have been able to see your families and would have missed them terribly.

Things seem to be slowly regaining some normality, although it’s likely we may be living with some restrictions for a good while yet. It’s great to be back publishing the magazines again, even though they’re a little slimmer than usual. I have temporarily taken the Club & Groups pages out until they are able to run properly again.

B&M Care: A New Vision for Person-Centred Dementia Care works within a framework that combines theory and practice to instil an innovative model of care where feelings, enablement, and the essence of ‘connectedness’ are at the forefront of its vision.

The past decade has seen the term ‘person-centred care’ exert considerable influence on the policy, practice and academic literatures within the care sector, so much so that this dementia ‘watchword’ has reflected an emergence of new approaches to delivering highly individualised care.

In attempt to further define the complexities of the above concept, dementia care specialist B&M Care has launched its ‘Rose Model of Dementia Care’: a studies-based programme that 6

“We learn and evolve by what we do, and with this innovative dementia-specific change programme, B&M Care will sustain its position as a front runner within the field of specialist dementia care,” commented Elaine Thorpe.

Overseen by B&M Care Training Manager Elaine Thorpe, the programme has been delivered to each of the group's care homes, including White Plains on Tilehouse Lane, Denham (pictured). Many of the donations we have received are from local groups organising their own donation activities and which have contributed so very much to the wellbeing of those who need a little added support during these worrying times for all. Your Parish Council will continue to provide support to our residents in every possible way. The Richings Players

Best in Show

No need for pick-pocketing, The Richings Players are once again thrilled to have been recognised by NODA London, as one of the finest amateur theatre societies in the area, scooping THREE district awards for their production of Lionel Bart’s “Oliver” including The Joe Putnam Award for Best Musical. The show based on Charles Dickens’ novel, Oliver Twist was directed by Lisa Delasalle, with Toby Stafford-Allen as Musical Director and Beth Mackerness as Lead Choreographer and was performed in November 2019 in Iver Village Hall. On hearing the news, Director Lisa said; “I’m absolutely thrilled that the efforts of our fantastic cast and crew have been recognised in such an amazing way! I had a vision and my vision was brought to life. I knew it was a gem of a show from the moment we cast it and I’m so proud to be part of this wonderful, talented society. I would like to dedicate the The Joe Putnam Award for Best Musical to all the fantastic kids that are going through a tough time right now. These kids are the future of our society and this proves that the future of Richings Players is in good hands.”

enjoyed the show, as did we. It's good to be a little scared (in a safe environment).” The Regional Councillor travels across the NODA London Region at the invitation of Societies and this year Andrew and his wife Karen, were fortunate to see some wonderful productions. The Councillor’s Trophy is there for the Councillor to recognise a show that struck a chord or stayed long in the memory. It’s not necessarily the show that was the most lavish, had the most money spent on it or that was produced, to sell out audiences, in a huge auditorium. Will Torrent’s programme design for “Oliver” came Runner Up for the Whitebread Trophy for Programme Design. A group would have normally attended the NODA Awards in London in June to receive the District certificates and pick up possible Regional Awards, however with the current pandemic and restrictions in place, the Richings faithful had to tune in online as the awards went “virtual”.

Chairman Evelyn adds; “I'm so proud of The Richings Players. We are a society that has been around for a very long time and we always try to do our very best with every production. “Oliver” has always been a particular favourite musical of mine - it was my first ever play to direct and ‘Nancy’ has always been my dream role. I was up against some amazing actresses to get the part and am so grateful to the panel for choosing me. I loved every minute of “Oliver” - playing Nancy really was a dream come true and now winning this accolade has put the icing on the cake. Thanks to my on stage man; Will. Your support and skill helped me immensely. I'm so happy for Lisa, Toby, Beth and the team for all our other awards -what an excellent job. Technically “Oliver” has also been awarded the coveted Councillor’s Trophy, which has extra, special we're not a Musical Society, but it looks like we do them quite well! Excellent job once again Richings significance this year. Not only did the NODA LonPlayers – it’s just the kind of news we all need at don Councillor Andrew Rogers come and see our the moment to lift our spirits.” production, this is also his last awards as London Councillor as he is stepping down in September. These awards follow on from last year’s successes After visiting Iver Village Hall, Andrew commented; which included the District 11a Flame Award (which “This year the Councillor’s Trophy award recognises inspirational contribution for the pursuit goes to The Richings Players production of “Oliver!” of excellence in theatre) for “Panto in the StoneFor showing what a society can do with staging in a Age”, “Blue Stockings” and “The Wind in the Wilvillage hall setting, the quality of the music, the lows”, the Shinfield Players Scenic Award for “The incorporation of the children and some terrific perWind in the Willows” and the Whitebread Trophy for formances. It was a great pleasure to attend this Programme Design for “Blue Stockings”. charming production, which was not without its quite dark moments. Well done for combining the We would also like to congratulate many of our laughter with moments that I could see had some members, past and present who also perform with little ones quite fearful. All's well that ends well other local societies who have won district awards though, and I could see the whole audience really too – well done to you all! Evelyn Stafford-Allen, who played ‘Nancy’ in the production has won the District 11a The Molly Harle Award for Best Female in a Musical. Our NODA Representative, Judith Watsham “couldn’t fault Evelyn’s performance as Nancy.” In her report, Judith went onto to say; “From her first appearance to her death scene, Evelyn maintained an absolutely believable character. An excellent accent too, both in spoken lines and very well sung musical numbers. I was right up close when you sang’ As Long as he Needs Me’ and you put over the emotion so well - a magical performance.”

richingspark.com Contact : chairman@richingspark.com Tel: 654010 Heathrow Sally Munn As expected, all meetings with Heathrow are currently on hold due to virus restrictions. As a result of the turndown in aviation, Heathrow have laid off many of the people with whom we were meeting before. Until the next court ruling on the National Air Policy Statement, we do not expect to hear anything. Given the massive financial hit this has had on airlines and the airport it is unlikely that we will see anything like the published Master Plan being executed even if the courts rule in the airport’s favour. Old Slade Lane Bridge Highways England have now decided that the replacement bridge will be a fully strengthened bridge capable of taking 40 tonne HGVs. We are concerned that if Heathrow’s plans do go through that their proposed rail/road freight exchange immediately south of the M4 could mean that HGVs will be using Old Slade Lane to access it. Gardening Team You will have noticed that the common grass verges and other areas have been looking neater as of late. This is due to the efforts of the gardening team who successfully applied for grants from Bucks Council for equipment and storage. The Sports Club have allocated an area for a shed to store the equipment. CCTV Project This won a Parish Council Award for excellence as a volunteer led project. Congratulations are due to Savi Arora and Tony Hill who received the award at the electors meeting earlier this year. Bathurst Walk East/ Bathurst Close We need a volunteer to take on the role of road warden. Please contact us to discuss what is involved. Annual General Meeting All depends upon the government rulings on when gatherings like this are safe to take place. Subscriptions As well as accepting cash or cheques as before, our website also allows for on-line subscription payments. Our current financial year started on April 1st, 2020. Residents Garden and Shopping Precinct If you would like to support the upkeep of the Residents Garden and the planter tubs by the shops, you can buy a lottery ticket from the South Bucks and Chilterns Lottery. This means that if you buy a lottery ticket from their website and nominate us as your chosen cause then we receive 50p per ticket which we are putting towards the cost of upkeep for the garden.
