Dear Readers Welcome to the September issue of

Inside this month’s issue

In and Around Denham And sadly our last Summer month before heading into Autumn. Many parents will be breathing a sigh of relief, as children head back to school, whilst others will be dreading the increase in morning traffic. Thankfully, I’m currently affected by neither, as my days of doing the school run are long over and working from home means I get to avoid rush hour. Of course, like everything in life, there are pros and cons for working at home and having a child well past school age, the latter a constant reminder that I’m ageing by the day. There aren’t too many benefits to be had from getting older that I can see, so I had to smile the other day, when an envelope came through my door with the Age UK logo on it. To be fair, it was addressed to the occupier and not me personally, but when I opened it up, I found it was aimed at anyone over fifty years old. Needless to say, a swift bout of depression struck as I realised I am officially old! On the upside, it was offering me a fantastically reduced rate of car insurance, because I’m now obviously an older, more cautious driver and therefore a safe bet. I’m not sure how true that is, but hey! If it saves a few bob, then I’ll happily put an Age UK sticker in the back screen of my Mini Cooper Sport. Until next month

Dear Resident,

2019 09

Local Plan This August has seen a lot of activity concerning the Draft Local Plan. We poured over the planning documents and engaged a planning expert to guide us and help pull together our response. A very difficult task as there were many documents to wade through. Our response was too long to publish here, 9 pages, but it is available on our website. Alongside this was a consultation on CIL which is a charging mechanism to developers for local infrastructure improvements. Who said August was the time we should take a break and go on holiday! Council Tax Consultation is now taking place and ends on the 24 September 2019. We urge you to respond. This can be found at www.shadow.buckinghamshire.gov.uk Denham Allotments Although our allotments are now managed by a committee consisting of plot holders, we still run our annual competition and judging took place in July. The winners will be presented with their certificates at the AGM which is being held again in the New Denham Community Centre on Sunday 29th September 2019. TfB Our roads are gradually being repaired and this last month has seen the resurfacing of Old Rectory Road and Tilehouse Lane. Various flooding problems are still being investigated by TfB and we hope to be able to provide you with further information at a later date. We have now submitted our proposals for funding available for improvements to the Way & Tillard and Knighton Way Lane Play Areas and some ancillary facilities including maintenance, security and safety, signage and accessibility. These improvements will be scheduled for implementation in the Autumn. There have been several reports about overgrown hedges and trees, the sunshine and rain has helped them to flourish. We are getting quotes for works across the Parish and these will be attended to in autumn at the end of the bird nesting season. Unitary in Bucks On 1 April 2020 the new Buckinghamshire Council will come into force. For 36

anyone who missed it, this is when the County Council and District Councils cease to exist and the new Buckinghamshire Council comes into force. There are ‘Community Board Consultations’ and a number of public drop-in sessions being held during September but unfortunately none were scheduled for the SBDC office at Capswood. We have raised this issue and hope by the time this is published there will be a date for Capswood which we will put on our website. If you have concerns over pot holes, flooding, trees, bollards etc., please use the TfB ‘fix my street’ user friendly website. Just enter the postcode to bring up the map, and indicate where the problem lies. It lets you upload photos if you have any and also see what else has been reported locally. Music on the Green - We look forward to you joining us on Denham Village Green, Sunday 15 Sep, for the final music event of this summer, which will feature the ‘Styles” a local group. They are not a Jazz band, hence the title change this month and we are sure you’ll recognise and be singing along to their songs. The first two new Defibrillators will hopefully be in situ by the time you read this thanks to fund raising by the local communities. They are easy to use and will be located outside New Denham Community Hall and the side of the garage on Denham Village Green. You simply call 999 and they will give a code to unlock the cabinet. The machine then talks you through how to use it whilst you’re waiting for the paramedics/ ambulance. You are welcome to attend our Monthly Parish Council meetings at 7.30pm on the second Monday of every month in the Parish Office, at the rear of the Denham Village Memorial Hall off Cheapside Lane. If you are interested in your neighbourhood, we are actively looking for new members/volunteers who can commit to a few hours a week. If you would like to discuss it more, please call or email and l would be happy to chat about what would be involved. Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council
