Dear Readers Welcome to the July issue of

Inside this month’s issue pg 36

In and Around Denham This is the month parents wait for with bated breath. Good old School Summer holidays! My Facebook feed will no doubt be full of Mums celebrating not having to get up early in the morning to do the school run and excitedly exchanging ideas as to where to take the kids to keep them amused. By mid August this is usually followed by cries of frustration, exhausted tempers and equally exhausted wallets. I remember it all as if it were yesterday. Meanwhile, Sammy is being run ragged every day by little Summer-Hope and counting down the months until she can get a little nursery school down time. Personally I just can’t wait until she stops using my furniture as a climbing frame, the dog’s water bowl as a form of splashy fun and the kitchen bin as some sort of lucky dip! I applaud any parent who can maintain a tidy home with a tiny terror on the loose. I’m just a grandparent and yet, the struggle is real! A one hour visit from this bundle of joy creates at least two hours of restoration work afterwards. Oh the joy of smeared tv screens and patio doors, toy strewn floors and rearranged ornaments. But of course, nothing compares to that cheeky little face and wonderful Nanny kisses. I wouldn’t change it for the world! Until next month .Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident,

2019 07

LOCAL PLAN Well we’re sure you’ve heard all about the Chiltern and South Bucks ‘consultation’ (a whole six weeks!) on the Local Plan. In fact if we hold your email address you would have received an email from our Clerk about this detailing when the open day at SBDC Capswood was being held and the website address where you could look at their proposal. The removal of three villages from the Green Belt was a blow to us and we feel it changes the face of Denham. Whilst we were aware of the proposal to use the car boot field for commercial use we objected to it after the first consultation due to the heavy traffic that already causes problems at the Denham roundabout. As this area is also one of the entrances to the Denham Country Park / Colne Valley Park we feel it is highly unsuitable to be taken out of the Green Belt. We will need residents support if and when it comes to a Public Inquiry, as we are sure it will. If we haven’t got your email address and you want us to keep you informed of the steps we are taking, please email clerk@denhambuckspc.gov.uk and request to be put on our emailing list. We assure you that we do not share our email address list with anyone. FLOODING We have held meetings with Transport for Bucks and they are now tackling some of the areas where flooding is caused by blocked drains. The lack of a DROPPED KERB by Landmark in Denham Green was also brought to our attention and Transport for Bucks have agreed to schedule the work and will be giving us a date when this will be actioned. We also raised the complaints we’ve received of uneven pavements in Green Tiles Lane and Higher Denham at our meeting but unfortunately this hasn’t been resolved. ROAD SWEEPING We continue to write to South Bucks District Council whose responsibility it is to sweep the A roads, particularly between the traffic lights and Denham roundabout and Denham Green shops down Moorfield Road where the gutters are full of dust and dirt. Also the pathway along the A412 where the mud lies after getting washed down from the main road. We can only continue to press them to do their job and action these items. 10

If you have concerns over pot holes, flooding, trees, bollards etc., please use the website ‘fix my street’. It is very easy to use. You just enter the postcode and it brings up a map so it is easy to indicate where the problem lies. It also shows you what else has also been reported locally. Our next Afternoon Social with Bingo at the New Denham Community Centre will be held on 28th July. If you are over 65 we welcome you to join us. You are the reason we hold these events. Just provide your name, address and telephone number if you don’t have an email address and we will contact you. We will also arrange to pick you up if you don’t have transport. Jazz on the Green went well in June despite the iffy weather and we look forward to you joining us on Sunday 21st July 2-5pm for the next event featuring ‘Dixieland Swing Kings’. Youth Services You may recall that we have raised concerns regarding providing activities for the youths of Denham, particularly as we have very few facilities to offer. Well we are pleased to report that there has been some encouraging news following an inquiry made through the Police Commissioner news letter that has resulted in a Youth Worker from Bucks County Council Youth Service, offering to come to Denham and engage with our youngsters to find out what they are interested in. He will be visiting and walking the area some time later this month. We are also looking for your input regarding future events you would like to see held in Denham. Will you please drop us a line with details of what type of things you would like us to consider. You are welcome to attend our Monthly (except August) Parish Council meetings that are held at 7.30pm in the Parish Office located at the rear of the Denham Village Memorial Hall off Cheapside Road. If you are interested in your neighbourhood, perhaps you would care to join us as a Councillor or Associate? We are actively looking for new members to join our committees

Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council
