Dear Readers Welcome to the December issue of

Inside this month’s Christmas issue

In and Around Denham And the final magazine of 2018. I’d like to say that I’m super organised this year, but that would be a total mistruth. As I’m writing this, it’s actually Black Friday, so I’m frantically hunting out online bargains whilst finalising the magazines for print. I may not be organised, but I can definitely multi task. Sammy is keen to put the decorations up already, but I’m keeping my stance that anytime in November is far too early. Added to that, I have absolutely no idea where to put our tree this year. SummerHope is possibly one of the fastest babies I’ve seen on all fours, and her continued attraction to all things forbidden makes me pretty certain that the tree is going to get it! I’m seriously considering suspending it from the ceiling this year, as that’s about the only place this tiny terror can’t manage to get to. Well, tree or no tree, I think this will be one of our best Christmases for a long time. There’s nothing like excited children on Christmas morning to bring back the magic that seems to lack in a house full of adults. So to all of our readers and advertisers, thank you for your continued support, we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we’ll see you again in the New Year. Angela & Sammy

Dear Resident

2018 12

The WW1 service held at St Mary’s was very moving and the sun shone brightly on us through the laying of wreaths during Remembrance of those who had fallen. We feel truly lucky to have such sunny days at this time of the year and hope you are all enjoying the sunshine that keeps brightening up the day despite the very cold winds. Events - Save the date! Friday 7 December at 6pm will see the lighting of the Christmas tree on Denham Village Green and a gathering of the Church Choir and school children and Brownies singing Carols around the tree. The Church will be providing some song sheets in order that all attending will be able to participate in the singing! We will also be providing some ‘hot chocolate’ for the children to enjoy. Do come along and add to the ambience of the event. Review of Electoral arrangements for Denham. This Consultation is about Denham becoming one ward instead of three. The second consultation is now open with a closing date of Friday 14 December 2018 so please visit the South Bucks District Council website and submit your view. We hope we can count on you to support us in favour of becoming one ward. The Scout Hut at Denham Green Some of you may remember that we were going to use this facility as a hub for our ‘Good Neighbour Scheme’ but the use of this facility looks like it is beyond our reach now due to water ingress. We had money committed by our Local Area Funding to assist with the refurb but that was only going towards our plans to create a disabled cloakroom, rip out the kitchen and get all the electrics checked. Although it is still under consideration, the water damage to the roof will be much too costly for us to address unless we can get some more funding from elsewhere. If you are aware of an alternative venue we could use, then please get in touch. Knighton Way Lane Playing Area has also benefited from Local Area Funding. The en12

trance to this play area was a bit of a hazard but that has now been addressed thanks to the funding we applied for from the LAF. The DAUA - Denham Allotment Users Association might have only been running a short time but they have big exciting plans and have already forged relationships with outside businesses that have been able to assist them. The Denham Cricket Club, located off of Cheapside Lane behind Denham Village School, are actively looking for new members so if you’re interested please contact them now for more information. Inderjeet Gahunia – 07894 134129 or email info@denhamcricketclub.com DPC are still searching for a new Clerk preferably with experience of working for a Parish Council. The job entails a wide range of skills from preparing papers and agendas for meetings, taking and producing minutes for evening meetings and advising the Committee Chairman of the rules. Answering queries from parishioners, dealing with contractors and other agencies. If a variety of tasks appeals please email your interest and C.V. to: marilynheath@denhambucks-pc.gov.uk If you wish to discuss the role please supply your number in the email. On behalf of Denham Parish Councillors, officers and staff, l would like to wish you all Seasons Greetings and a healthy, happy new year. Marilyn Heath. Chairman Denham Parish Council meets on the 2nd Monday of every month (except August) at 19:30 in the Parish Office, Rear of Denham Village Memorial Hall, Village Road, Denham. Residents are always welcome to attend. Marilyn Heath Chairman, Denham Parish Council Our grateful thanks to ‘In and Around Denham’ for providing this Platform for us

Everyone can now register with an NHS Dentist, Village Dental Practice on 16 High Street, Harefield UB9 6BU. The practice was chosen by NHS England in 2016 to deliver NHS dentistry to the community. It has recently been fully refurbished, with the dentists using the latest equipment for all the family's dental needs. They are now accepting NEW NHS Patients.

14

They are taking on children under 5 to improve their oral health and offer prevention advice to families. ALL children under 18 can benefit from FREE NHS Dental Care.

Some patients are also eligible for free NHS treatment. In addition, the dentists undertake private cosmetic dental treatment so patients may wish to mix some private treatment with their NHS treatment. The practice also has disabled access and free parking.

Many of us are anxious patients, but at The Village Dental Practice the experienced team of friendly and professional staff will put your mind at ease! The practice is also working alongside the local schools to promote the importance of good oral healthcare to children. With very short waiting times, and a friendly and experienced team, look no further than The Village Dental Practice to transform the way you approach going to the dentist.

As Hillingdon has a high rate of tooth decay amongst children under 5, the Village Dental Practice in Harefield has been selected as one of NHS England’s Starting Well Child Friendly practices.

Marley Sadly Marley’s owners could no longer take care of him, so this lovely 3 year old black and white pointer is looking for a new home and family to call his own. He is a fun-loving young man with lots of energy and bounce, so will need plenty of daily exercise and a good-sized secure garden with high fences where he can enjoy running around and playing with his toys. Marley would also benefit from attending training classes and taking part in other activities which would help to channel his energy. The ideal home would be with older children only and no other pets. He is currently a bit too thin and will need help to build up his weight gradually. If you can offer Marley a fun and active lifestyle and a loving home for life, we’d love to hear from you.
