RUSSELL CAMPBELL Obsessed with cars from a young age, I have been boring people about them since. Now the boredom has gone global; with me your friendly, local, motoring journo being published in titles such as PistonHeads.com, Classic & Sports Car, Autocar, CarEnthusiast.com and CompleteCar.ie. I also worship Jeremy Clarkson, but we don’t talk about that... Follow the madness: @carbitrator

CAROLINE POLLEDRI I am best known for my witty columns, celebrity features and all round silliness. Having interviewed the likes of JLS, Pixie Lott and David Haye (who I punched), I has also had published writings in most national editorials. Now based in London, I am still a self confessed ‘Essex devotee’ and I am hoping that my second book will make the shelves as the first one was a bit rubbish.

SALLY KITCHENER I started my fashion career in the late 80's after being spotted on the street (cliché i know!). After a few years as an international model with Models One and Askews I moved on to owning my own fashion boutique for brands such as Diesel, D & G, & Valentino. After fifteen years of buying and styling fashion I began to further my other passion... writing.

The Social Scene with

Sally Kitchener. ssex Fashion Week was never going to be a contender for the catwalk shows of London, Paris or Milan, it wasn’t pretending to be either. So the trashing it received from the dailies was, how shall we say, a little bit of over sensationalising of the media-hype that surrounds the TOWIE sideshow. It is fair to say that this tiny corner of Essex does however at times, lack a certain finesse, just pulling into the car park at The City Pavilion, host to the event, was a revelation in itself. Row upon row of ‘pimp my ride’ motors was indeed eye opening; Jeremy Clarkson et al would have had a field day! Even my journo friend could not resist to Tweet a piccie of her orange luminous nails against a 4x4 of exactly the same colour! Undoubtedly, the real piece de resistance was Dave The Builder’s mobile dog grooming van. We couldn’t resist lapping the car park for a second peek at the mutts being groomed, preened and dressed in an assortment of outfits, ready for their fifteen minutes of fame. Only in Essex! If you can over look the Z-Listers, wafts of fake tan permeating the air, bikini clad, botoxed and balloon bosomed glamour pusses that strutted casually around the venue, the show itself was actually very good. The models were gorgeous and the dance troupe that kicked it all off were easily as good as anyone that appears on Britain’s Got Talent. The organisers and brands who sponsored the event worked very hard to make the show a success and it showed. Unfortunately, there were clearly sound issues, so the poor chappy that came on to entertain in the interval to sing a Chris Brown cover was more ‘little an’ large’ than Arg, but hey ho, we were never going to get Kanye. Talking of Kanye, he appeared at The Met Ball in New York, which was held a day later than the Essex show. Interestingly, looking at the A-Lister’s in full plumage, there were also some horrendously dodgy outfits going on. Madonna, Beyonce and SJP, what were you thinking? So it just goes to prove that you don’t need to come from Essex to be accused of having no taste! It’s basically opposite ends of the alphabet and a little geography thrown in for good measure! And even then you can still end up looking like a reject from ‘PriMarni’. I’m not totally convinced the move of location was to the events best interest, but I am convinced with a bit of tweaking, and I’m not just talking Aislene Wallace’s top here, it could become a ‘one for the calendar’ yearly event. Well done to Lauren Pope who outshone all her rivals by looking beautiful and taking her working role as ambassador for Nikki Lissoni seriously - having endless photos taken all in very good grace, even one with my number one daughter, Chloe who is secretly a massive TOWIE fan. Interview Billi Mucklow is the much coveted face behind Bikram Yoga, in Loughton. iN Mag Essex caught up with Billi over a coffee in between her busy schedule of photo-shoots and being at the helm of her beauty empire.

PosEd For succEss Page 12

- Billi Mucklow -

From coming to iN Mag on work experience five years ago, did you ever imagine iN Mag would be interviewing you and you would be gracing our front cover? It’s so mad that I completed my work experience for iN Mag and now you are interviewing me. I didn’t expect this to ever happen. I always picked up the mag to see if I had made it to the photo page! So tell us a little about your journey from a school girl to being involved with TOWIE and now heading two businesses. Once I left school I worked for my dad in his company. Within a week of working in an office environment I realised it wasn’t for me. My sister had just finished school and had started a course at college learning nails and beauty. It was then we decided we wanted a salon. We opened Belles & Beaus, on Queen’s Road, Buckhurst Hill in 2007. My sister and I worked alongside each other with the help of my Mum. I started practising Bikram Yoga about four years ago and fell in love with the teqhniques and decided I wanted to be a teacher. So I fully staffed Belles & Beaus and went to Los Angles for three months in April 2011 to complete the Bikram Training. Once I got home from LA, I was approached by ‘Only Way Is Essex’ and was asked if I was interested in becoming a cast member. I knew most of the cast and was familiar with the crew as they always filmed at Belles & Beaus. After loads of meetings my best friend Cara and I decided to join the show in series three. I have been in TOWIE for eighteen months now, working extremely hard alongside the filming to open my own Bikram Yoga Studio. Were you happy with how the producers typecast your character? Overall I’m happy with how I have been portrayed. I always seem to get positive feedback and I can tell from peoples tweets what they’re thinking. There has been a strong drum-roll in anticipation of Loughton’s Bikram Yoga studio. Can you reveal what’s in store for Loughton, Essex? I’ve been heavily involved in the project alongside my Dad, my friend Jenna and the Bikram Yoga Essex team. It’s been a really long process to get to where we are today, we started working on opening the studio a year ago! Finding the right location was one of the most important aspects. Then a premises became available in Loughton High Road. We are so excited to be opening the first state-of-the-art Bikram Yoga studio in Loughton.

For us novices who have never tried Bikram Yoga, what can we expect? Every class is a beginner’s class. Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 beginner’s postures and two breathing exercises performed in a heated room approximately 40ºC. Each class lasts for 90 minutes. So come with an open mind, there are so many benefits. Expect to get hot and sweaty! Is there a membership or can anyone book and pay on the day? Our introductory offer is £35 for unlimited classes for 30 days to all new members. We will also offer drop in classes and have several packages such as a 10 class card, 1 month unlimited, 3 month unlimited and up to 1 year unlimited. What are the benefits of Bikram? And can you guarantee a weight loss? The benefits are endless: •

• • • • • • • • • • •

Weight loss (burns calories around 1250 per class). I can guarantee weight loss and change in your body shape if you practise regularly and stick to a healthy diet. Tones and strengthens muscles, ligaments and joints. Detox’s the entire body. Increases coordination and balance. Reduces stress and anxiety. Heal’s injuries. Restores flexibility. Helps sleep patterns. Boosts your immune system. Improves circulation. Re-energises you. Improves mind/body connections.

Are you trained to teach? Yes, I am fully trained. I graduated in 2011 after completing my teacher training in LA with Bikram Choudhury himself and I will be teaching regularly at the studio alongside other great experienced teachers. And if we want to try a class of Bikram Yoga, what do we need to do? Register at www.bikramyogaessex.com and we will contact you as soon as we launch. All the details are on the website for all the first timers and people who are new to the studio. What to bring – • Photo ID (first time only). • Bottle of water – can be purchased at the studio. • Two large towels – can be rented at the studio. • Yoga mat – you may bring your own or available to rent at the studio. What to wear – You will need to wear clothing that is close fitting and lightweight. Avoid baggy clothing.

You have quite a feat making Hot Yoga glamorous. What can we expect in store? You don’t need to worry about Hot Yoga not being glamorous; we have created an environment that is oozing with luxury. From our amazing retail area where you will be able to treat yourself to a trendy Yoga outfit, to coming to a class in our amazing studio, to preening yourself in our contemporary changing rooms. Bikram Yoga Loughton has it all. To advertise your business call: 020 3478 4431

HOT OFF THE PRESS.... HOT OFF THE PRESS DUKE OF ESSEX POLO GRAND PRIX 13 NEWS...NEWS...NEWS...NEWS...NEWS NEW LOCATION Yep, no longer in the muddy fields of Gaynes Park, Essex Polo has all grown up! Hyland’s Park Estate (home to V Festival no less) in Chelmsford has commenced work on a purpose built polo arena and is home to Hyland’s House, a beautiful Grade II listed building, which will play a huge part in this years ‘Sport of Kings’. The popularity of the Duke of Essex Polo, which is now in its’ 8th year, has already seen it firmly established as part of the British Social Season and the move to Hyland’s Park is expected to attract over 8,000 VIPs and members of the public over two days - Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July.

NEW OWNERS This year sees the Duke of Essex Polo enter a massive transition; the third rightful owners ‘The Kingg Ltd’ and ‘Grand Prix Events’ take to the helm bringing a wealth of experience in hospitality and outside event management, on such a grand scale. As The Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13 is posed to take our 'Summer Social Calendar' by storm, the new owners ensure us that

nothing will dampen their weekend event and for 2013 they come fully prepared for our glorious great British summer. Improving the already successful event was Grand Prix Events biggest agenda. Taking their experience from The Grand Prix and outside event hospitality, both companies looked objectively at The Duke of Essex’s previous years and assigned themselves a goal of making the Duke of Essex Polo Grand Prix 13 the finest polo event in the UK.

We’re looking at striking a genuine balance between a sporting event and social occasion which is one of the reasons for moving to Hyland’s House who offered to accommodate our polo arena, the use of the beautiful mansion itself and of course it does help the venue is set in a truly stunning setting. Mathew McGaun, co-owner of Grand Prix Events.

THE POLO PLAYERS For the first time in the Duke of Essex’s Polo’s history the teams and players are being carefully kept under wraps! Long gone are the days when a ‘certain’ team just kept on thrashing their opposition! New teams will be launched on the 13th and we can’t wait to see them.

Luis Pedro, General Services Manager at Holly House Hospital, said: ‘Our patients are given a very high level of customer service and we have a consistent standard of practice across all staff clinical and non-clinical. We are proud to be leading the way in excellent customer service in healthcare. Our aim is to give a service that is similar to a five-star hotel approach. It is very rare for clinical staff to receive customer service training despite the fact that they deal with patients all day but this new training shows Holly House is raising the bar in healthcare.’ Phil Bates, Hospital Director, added: ‘We pride ourselves on looking after our patients as we would a member of our family. This new status enforces our commitment to take our care on to the next level. We are dedicated to providing the best possible care and along with our recent £20 million redevelopment we are at the forefront of modern medical care.’

Looking Good

It’s Time For A Red Carpet Smile The Essex social calendar has begun and I am in need of a smile which a pair of Gucci’s wouldn’t be afraid of. So I made my way to Bright & White Dental Spa in Chigwell, to check out one of the newest dental spa’s to Essex. I was met by Harpreet Khambay, business owner and her assistant Christy Davis, who both offered a friendly but professional welcome. Bright & White Dental Spa is a clinical white haven with a Scandinavian warmth of character, conveniently located just off the Charlie Browns roundabout, positioned for ease of accessibility with the added bonus of parking for clients. The procedure and the benefits of the Philips Zoom treatment were explained as my daughter was whisked away to watch ‘In The Night Garden’ much to my and her delight. Nothing, it would seem, phased team Bright & White, not even a disgruntled one year old.

‘The Philips Zoom process is not only proven to whiten teeth up to eight shades, it’s also safe. While other whitening products can harm teeth and gums, using Philips Zoom with Relief ACP gives you greater luster and protects enamel.’ explained Harpreet.

THE PROCEDURE: I was fitted with a mouth guard, gel to protect my gums, followed by a 45 minutes of relaxation as my teeth were zoomed. A pain free procedure which was no different than a warm blue light upon my teeth. The after effect was a brighter shade six times lighter than before. For the finishing whitening treatment, Bright & White had previously created a custom tray for me to wear for two hours a day for up to fourteen days, using the Zoom at-home whitening formula. It is an easy to use application which fitted into my hectic lifestyle with ease. The end result was a Bright & White smile fit for the Essex summer social agenda.

BRIGHT & WHITE DENTAL SPA OFFER A SIMPLE MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP FOR £15.50 WHICH OFFERS:

Two extensive examinations; two dental hygiene appointments; dental x-rays as required; worldwide dental accident and emergency insurance; 20% discount on all dental treatment (including cosmetic but excluding dental implants); 10% discount on Invisible Orthodontic treatments and a free teeth whitening kit worth £250. Philips Zoom whitening is priced at £360 as a member or £450 to non-members. 0% finance options are available.

Motoring RUSSELL CAMPBELL TESTS PEUGEOT’S STUNNING NEW PEUGEOT RCZ For less than £26,000 there are few cars that combine the looks of Peugeot’s RCZ GT THP200 with its performance. The new car is even prettier than the model it replaced; holding the golden ticket of being both feminine and masculine in a way that makes it one of the most eye-catching vehicles on the road at the moment. The RCZ has inherited the prettier nose, the same as of the rest of the range and adds muscular wheel arches which, in this spec, host 19” wheels.

capable of swallowing a few suitcases. Out on the road the RCZ feels brisk. The 1.6-litre 200bhp engine is one of the most impressive parts of the car, peak torque of 206lb ft comes in at 1750rpm, making the unit feel amazingly linear as power tops out at 5800rpm giving a rev band that just keeps on giving. At 40mph in sixth gear, the GT

The double-bubble roof, which continues into the shaped rear windscreen, only serves to ice the cake. Throw into the mix the car’s relative rarity on the roads (compared to an Audi TT for example) and it makes for an attractive package. The high standards set outside don’t quite make it inside, but it feels solid, is logically set out and does a relatively good job of cocooning you like a sports car should. It’s only the relatively high driving position that lets the side down.

Meanwhile, the sports seats look amazing, plus they are comfortable and supportive. Pay a little bit extra (£525) and your money gets a leather pack that covers the centre dashboard and doors increasing the premium feel no end. Equipment is generous and includes front and rear parking sensors, electric and heated seats, dual-zone climate control, USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity. Integrated Sat Nav costs an extra £735 and can be a bit flaky at times, while an impressive JBL stereo upgrade comes in at £420. While the GT has plenty of space up front, along with useful cubby holes and cup holders, the back is tight. A combination of little headroom and minimal legroom means it’s really only suitable for children. The boot is a revelation though: long, deep and more than Page 38

will easily pick up the pace all the way to its maximum speed of 146mph. Despite this, the Peugeot makes a good fist of being efficient with the French manufacturer claiming 50mpg on the combined cycle, while 155g/km of CO2 means tax is a reasonable £170. Forget about driving sensibly, the RCZ’s fun to hustle. It’s relatively stiffly sprung, but not in a way that’s ever particularly uncomfortable. The gearbox also feels sporty thanks to a short throw but, lacking a smidgen of precision, it’s not as satisfying as it could be. The steering has a similar problem. There’s nothing wrong, but it lacks the sparkle that could have made the RCZ really special.

The Peugeot is undoubtedly fun to drive quickly: the brakes are strong, it has loads of grip and the engine proves that four-cylinder units can sound good, too. But, the lack of a clever front differential means the coupe will never be as rewarding to drive as some of the hot-hatch competition. The result is that you often forget the RCZ sporty aspirations and drive it more like the normal hatch which, under its sexy body, it effectively is. And that in a way sums up whether you should buy an RCZ. It offers much of the engagement of the latest hot hatches and beats them hands down on looks. Its more obvious competition, the Audi TT, may offer a better drive and a classier cabin, but at this price you’d have to settle for a less powerful model, plus the Peugeot is arguably the better looking car and certainly less common. It represents a return to form for the Lion brand and, we hope, a sign of what’s to come.

NEW VW GOLF BLUEMOTION VW’s new Golf BlueMotion can achieve 88.3mpg on the combined cycle giving it a huge theoretical range of 970-miles from its 50-litre fuel tank. Impressive CO2 emissions of just 85g/km mean the VW is exempt from paying road tax - even if a proposed lower CO2 threshold is introduced. The BlueMotion’s spectacular economy and emissions figures come partly thanks to a body that is 37kg lighter than the outgoing Golf, while the weight of the car’s running gear has also been reduced by 26kg. The car features low-rolling-resistance tyres, a six-speed manual gearbox with longer ratios, plus stop-start technology and battery regeneration systems. The latter two are standard throughout the range. In the quest for frugality, the BlueMotion’s aerodynamics have been improved thanks to a 15mm lower ride height, adding roof and C-pillar spoilers, plus the fitting of underfloor panels that smooth the airflow beneath the car. Additional aerodynamic tweaks include masking the Golf’s grille. They all improve on the standard Golf’s 0.27Cd drag coefficient, which is nearly 10 per cent better than the old car’s. Power comes from a 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, with 109bhp and 250Nm of torque, which is available between 1,500rpm and 3,000rpm. The car can dispatch 0-62mph in 10.5 secs and has a maximum speed of 124mph. VW has reduced internal friction in the engine and improved its thermal management, meaning the new Golf reaches its optimal running temperature quicker than the old model - maximising efficiency and cutting emissions. Based on the Golf S, the BlueMotion’s specification includes Bluetooth connectivity, a DAB digital radio, air conditioning, numerous airbags and Electronic Stability Control. On sale now, prices start at £20,335 for the three-door model and rise to £20,990 for the five-door car.

Horoscopes JUNE’S

GEMINI (21ST MAY - 20TH JUNE)

Welcome to iN’s society column, ‘Girl About Town’. So I’ve just finished my Facebook free month. And did I complete my mission? Well put it this way, I didn’t exactly pass but I didn’t exactly fail either. Okay, I sort of did fail, but not in the way you’d think. If you’re talking about whether or not I browsed the Facebook news feed everyday reading the statuses of people who I don’t really like and scowling and tutting, or whether or not I ‘liked’ the wedding photo of a random couple that I met at a barbecue in 2008, then I definitely passed. But if your idea of not going on Facebook is checking a message from one of your ‘actual’ friends who asked you to read it and actually reading it – well then yes, I did fail. But, apart form that minor hiccup I was totally Facebook free. At first it was really difficult, especially because my iPad had ‘35’ in big red letters next to the Facebook app icon, willing me to read 35 notifications that really were very important, and were not 35 invites to Luxe, Faces or invites to play Candy Crusher or whatever it’s called. I must admit I was tempted, because amongst them, just maybe there was something of interest. Of course I needn’t have worried, as the month ended and I did look there was absolutely nothing of any interest. Not even a photo tag! Now maybe that says a lot about me, but it just goes to show that apart from the odd message from a friend that could text but some reason messaged me via Facebook, there wasn’t really anything of value that I was missing out on. Most of my friends knew of my experiment and instead of tagging me in photos they wanted me to see, they emailed them to me, called me with information about their birthdays and text me any news of how they were feeling. I never thought I’d see the day where I thought that emailing and texting was actually a really thoughtful and heartfelt gesture, but I have now. Apart from more genuine communication from friends, another positive of not going on Facebook was that I felt less anxious about having one less thing to ‘check’ or peruse. At first I felt like I was missing out but after a while I almost forgot about it. I felt a bit smug that I didn’t care, especially when I heard other people talking about it. It was a positive experience all round and although I will check my notifications, I know I only need to surf Facebook once every few weeks, max. And while I’m not doing that, I’ll just be here getting on with my life and enjoying making arrangements with friends with the notion that I’ll find out about their lives– face to face rather than face to Facebook.

TAURUS (20TH APRIL - 20TH MAY)

Mercury is in your pragmatic sign for June, adding a high-frequency buzz to your usual air of practicality. Instead of doing what makes the most sense now, it's tempting to just talk about it. Lucky Colour: Yellow.

BESPOKE JEWELLERY DREAM MAKER Working For Bella Diamonds in Hatton Garden, Liam Galloway shares the Bella passion for what they do best. Making dreams come true. ou previously worked for another jewellers, what made you move to Bella Diamonds? Honestly, the family behind the brand are the nicest people you could ever meet. Adam and Mary Georgiou own the business, they are married and have three children: two girls and a boy. Their passion and love for their business and everything which sparkles filters through their studio and into the pieces of jewellery which are created. Working at Bella Diamonds is highly rewarding and when I came for my interview I had a huge sense of the creative opportunities which Bella Diamonds could offer. Having a design studio and open workshop on site, Bella Diamonds also offer inhouse manufacturing. It is an exciting process seeing the designs created and watching each piece of jewellery being made. It really is cutting-edge technology and this is where I wanted to be. It is just a bonus they are a great family to work for too.

What is the most unique attraction for a customer choosing Bella Diamonds? Family values, love and creative passion all rolled into an item of jewellery. We recently had a prospective bride and groom who wanted to create their wedding rings and have an active involvement in the manufacturing process. It is this kind of input which Bella Diamonds offer which makes the company really stand out. A ring is special and will always hold sentimental value, but can you imagine what significance a ring will hold for these two customers? They chose the design together, helped cast the metal, saw the wax model, helped clean and polish each ring and then witnessed the hallmark process (obviously we gave them all the safe processes). I know they will hold the memories of their Saturday afternoons, for many years to come. If they can emulate the foundations of their marriage on how they worked together on the process of the manufacturing of their rings, their marriage will have the recipe for success! Talking about manufacturing, this is really key for us. By coming to Bella Diamond you cut out the middle man. We offer attractive prices and can boast 100% British made. Not many businesses can shout out about that! Page 50

What are your thoughts about cashing in old gold for money? Gold is a commodity which has consistently gone up in value year after year. At Bella Diamonds we are really big on persuading our clients to keep their precious metals in the family. We can remodel, repair, melt it down and make new pieces so the gold can be enjoyed for many generations. I personally love an antique design with modern techniques added to it, which can create a really unique piece. There is no need to cash in! Just let us remodel it for you.

And what is next for Bella Diamonds? We are looking to expand on our client workshop experience days and hold some special events and evenings, including a few micro wedding events with a preferred list of wedding suppliers. Our prospective brides love this as they find it so helpful in the first stages of their engagement. Our client area is being redesigned and redecorated to reflect our warm and friendly image too!

We also have a few ideas up our sleeves; our latest is a competition where by the the reader designs their own ring and if it gets the top number of votes, we will let the creator name the design; they would have made design history! But to really find out what is going on, just like our Facebook page, follow us on Twitter or pop in to see us! The door is always open.
