On New Year’s Eve 2022 the news came that former Pope Benedict XIV had died peacefully in the Monastero Mater Ecclesiae in Vatican City. Many people, including world figures in politics and the church paid homage to a man many called one of the greatest theologians of the 20th Century. It was enough to make me want to learn more about the man, his life and how he became the first Pope to resign his post in over 700 years. It offers us all a unique insight into his life both before, during, and after his occasionally turbulent years in office.

The book itself is a very easy read, written in an interview format you admire how the author has, at times, put to The Pope Emeritus some very challenging questions.
