INTRODUCTION SPONSORSHIP OF MEDICAL WRITING SERVICES FOR CONFERENCE DELEGATES: A VALUABLE OPPORTUNITY FOR FOSTERING GCP IN SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION. The term “Medical writing” refers to a wide range of tasks ad competencies involved in the elaboration of biomedical texts, from study design, to elaboration of clinical data, language editing for style and grammar, and more in general involved in the application of good clinical practice (GCP) standards in scientific communication. Medical writing (MW) is a professional field widely recognized and encouraged in the international setting of clinical and pharmaceutical research and, in fact, professional medical writers represent a point of reference for many researchers/authors of biomedical articles and documents. TARGET END-USER: Congress delegates, speakers, healthcare professionals, or other attendees who wish to receive on-spot consultancy on medical writing issues. A UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY: Medical writing is one of the many backstage activities of biomedical research and scientific events, often contracted to physically remote agencies, far from the contractor/author requesting the service. Bringing a Medical writing stand to the conference premise would offer conference participants a unique opportunity to access the service first hand and at no charge. The participant could approach the MW help-desk either to request a quick translation of a sentence heard during the conference or even a more complex enquiry concerning the statistics section of an article in progress. MEDICAL WRITING TEAM AT THE STAND The Pencil and Paper team is a dynamic group of professional writers with solid academic background, in biology, pharmacy, statistics, linguistics, and medicine. The professional writers are all specialized in the field of scientific communication, mainly in the 4 areas of: - elaboration of clinical data (prognostic models, meta-analyses, etc.) - writing of biomedical texts (peer-reviewed articles, protocols, CSR, IBs, etc.) - creation of educational material (slide kits, topic cards, brochures, web contents, etc.) - language editing for scientific style and grammar WHERE, WHEN, AND HOW: The medical writing desk will be located at the Sponsor’s stand and will be operating for 2 days during conference activity hours, from 9 a.m. to about 6 p.m. The group of medical writers is composed by 3 people, each on a 3 + 3 hour shift. This can guarantee a constant presence of at least 2 writers at all times, with a replacement, or alternatively the simultaneous presence of 3 writers limited to the hours of major congress crowd, for a total of 6 hours each (to be established with Sponsor).
