Facilitator’s Guide G07 ~ Bible Education

PREFACE Dear facilitator, Welcome to Bible Education: One of the most important subjects the learner will be exposed to. Teaching the learner about faith and religion is an important task we as facilitators have here on earth. We need teach the learner the content of the Bible and raise them to accept the guidelines of the Bible as the foundation of their lives. Please read the Bible verses that are given to the learner in your favourite version of the Bible. Remember that repetition is the best way to learn something. Repeat the verses as often as you can. You can also purchase any of the Scripture true children’s Bibles that are available in stores. Remember that it is very important for the learner to get used to the “sound of the scripture”. He/she must listen to and memorise the Bible verses as they are written in the Bible. The language of the Bible (even modern versions) are different from the language that we use every day and therefore it is important to expose the learner to the language of the Bible. This will allow him/her to use the Bible with confidence. Start or end every day’s lesson with a prayer. There is a guideline with every lesson, but it is important for the child to learn to pray on his/her own. Encourage the learner to pray and set an example by also praying. People who were imprisoned, tortured and traumatised, for religious or other reasons, often testify that the Bible verses they memorised as children helped and carried them through those times of torment. This year we are going to discuss the life stories of figures of the Bible. The learner must learn at least one Bible verse from every theme off by heart. I will provide key verses for you to choose from. Regularly test the learner to ensure that they still remember the verses and understand their meaning. The parts from the Bible that are discussed in Grade 5, 6 and 7 form a unit. This is managed by theme and not chronologically. In Grade 5 the theme is “God’s people”. We examine the reaction of the people who lived in Biblical times to the words and work of God. The example (sometimes good, sometimes bad) serves as a guideline for your child to make his/her own decisions to obey God. In Grade 6 the theme is “How I live”. The learner will learn how to live a life of obedience and faith.
