Discuss the following: • From the headline, what do you think each article may be about? • What makes a good headline? • List the features of a good newspaper headline. Some facts about headlines • They are the titles or headings of newspaper articles • They usually contain few words • Their purpose is to attract the interest of readers • They are usually in bold and in larger font than the article • They make use of figures of speech such as puns and alliteration Read these newspaper headlines. Can you find a pun and alliteration in any of them? If so, in which ones?
